What's the best quiet case? I'm considering the CM Stacker or Coolermaster cavalier 3. That do you think? Thanks

Antec Sonata. 29db under full load with a reasonable CPU HSF... I love mine. SOOOO quiet. :)

I've also considered it but I don't like the way it looks though. Although I would agree I've seen reviews about it.

why dont you mod something you like into something super quiet.

Its a fun challange.

anything that you like the look and functionality of that has 120mm fan spaces

What don't you like about it? Mine looked really nice while I had it.

I'll be using, Sonic Tower for the cpu, a 6800 fanless vga and a fanless motherboard. This will be a very quiet setup. Plus I'll be buying a HD silencer. But still don't know what the pc case I will be using. What do think of this set up? Do you think the Coolermaster cavalier would be good for this?

Don't get a sonata. Get an SLK3700BQE instead. Or the SLK3700AMB. The bqe is just as quiet as the sonata, and has better airflow.

And if you truly want to quiet your HD, suspend it.

Definately spend some time at SPCR as mentioned above. There's a ton of info there.

or the 3000B, and cover the side vents.

The one thing I hate about the Sonata is the intake fan placement. Horrible place for bringing in fresh air.

get some insulation here

you can make most cases quiet.

Hey DR_K13 did you just become a mod? I never noticed you were before...

anyways do you really think the insulation works? I mean its $50...does it dampen $50 worth of sound? And its just thoes sound foam pads right? I could just go down to ace hardware and pick some up couldnt i?

thanks and sorry about the double post

While silenX fans are quiet.....Nexus fans are by far the quietest. I have some silenx fans, and they're over-rated and over-hyped by silenx.

check out these fans:

120 MM pushes 40 CFM and is 11DBA. there is also another one that is 14DBA i think and pushed near 60CFM...
I don't believe those ratings just because it just looks too good to be true. SilenX doesn't make anything - all the products they market are re-branded from another manufacturer. The folks over at SPCR don't like SilenX products because the owner himself participated in some sketchy marketing schemes on the forums.

If you want a good 120mm fan that is inaudible, undervolt a Nexus (they're Yate Loons).

Hey, I have been a mod for a little while.

As far as the insulation goes, Yes! it works great, I silenced my folding farm and got the noise way down. I would go the the hardware store or pep-boys and ask for automotive sound insulation. You will save some cash.

is that brand/those fans credible? id love to get my hands on some 120mms at only 11DBA. even something less than 20DBA would be excellent.

The numbers aren't right but the fans are still silent, just not as silent.
For $25 dollars though...

EDIT:
Read this post

Those SilenX are proven to be pure utter crap, ask anyone at the SilentPCReview forums. The guy has even deliberatly lied about his companies products. I"d stay away from them.

SilenX Conspiracy

SilenX Conspiracy

They haven't been proven to be crap, and SilentPCreview would be biased because of what happen.
The owner never lied about his products, he just lied about who he was, and trashed other products. They took offense to that.

Not even that, SilenX fans are proven to be far from "silent" for the standards of the SPCR community. I certainly know they're not silent.
