What do you guys think is the best NCQ drive out there? Not really going for the raptor so was thinking of picking up a few NCQs. The barracuda?

I've got several seagate 7200.8 drives that I always run with full NCQ turned on (both the drive ncq and the raid card's ncq) and they have been performing exceptionally well for me.

So do I and I fully agree.

Seagate 7200.8 all the way!!

hmm is the seagate faster than the maxline 3 because the maxline is $30 cheaper for the 300gig.

Don't know. Your mission is to go to their websites, look at the stats and report back.

I prefer Seagate because of their track record. They make very high quality drives that are quite quiet. Its your data for god sake!! Reliablity should be as important, if not more important, that speed. (That statement was made under the assumption that the drives are very close in speed, which I have already stated that I don't know.)

I like my maxtor diamondmax 10 i just picked up for my music.. 300gb 16mb cache w/ NCQ and is also SATA-150 and i'm as happy as can be with it, really would recommend it if you are looking for medium/high storage that also has NCQ tech. Other than that my Barracuda 160gb 7200.8 w/ NCQ runs well.

Someone here brought up the possibility of a technical/performance issue with the seagate 7200.8s, maybe a week ago. Look further back in this thread if you want to see it. It was way over my head, but could be worth the read if you're considering buying the drive.

thx wake that was a fascinating read. It looks like the 7200.8 and maxline III are pretty close performance wise but the 7200.8 has a slightly faster random access. I think I'll just go with the 300gb no matter what because of the issue with the 133gb platter seek times.
