What do you think the best mouse pad it? i'm using an old cloth crappy one, i'm upgrading within the week. what should i get? also, what is the best one with NO upkeep?
 
I really like the glass Icemat pads, although they are kinda expensive. I use a Func, and am happy with it. Most people like the Func...
 
just go buy some cheapass mousepad at whatever store is closest to you that sells them. not a big deal. unless you have money to blow on an expensive "gaming mousepad" thats not going to improve your score at all. rofl now that i think about it, it's hilarious that people spend so much money on "gaming mousepads."

You ever owned a good mousepad?

Dude a cheap shit mousepad will be crap compared to a Func or Icemat. They may cost alot more, but they're way easier to use and alot less frustrating. An Icemat or Func compared to a generic P.O.S mousepad will give you a better score and make games more fun cause its one less thing you have to worry bout. If you move your mouse and it gets stuck, skips or jams up when your playing games or even in windows it can be really fucking annoying.

I spent like US $60 (cause im in aus) on an Icemat2 and i don't even play games. I got it because i wanted something smooth and accurate. I've used a 3M, Ratpad 1 and 2, func, DKT, Everglide and an IceMat and the IceMat is just way better overall. (didnt/dont own the func, DKT or Everglide)

Best mousepad = Icemat2 (25 x 30 cm) though it needs cleaning every 2 weeks or so (just windex). Also, kinda bad in winter (gets really cold if you arent using it) lol.

Next best = Func (20 x 25 cm). Awesome pad, though it wears out over time, bit small for some.

Next best = DKT (bout 30 x 40 cm) . Friggin massive mousepad thats very comfortable to use, though gets dirty and can be a bitch to clean. Same as Icemat with the season, but replace winter with summer. Gets hot after use cause its a giant cloth pad, though it isnt to the point of annoyance.
 
If by good you mean expensive then no, I've never owned a "good mousepad." I've used cheap/shit mousepads all my life. The one I have now I don't even know where it came from. It says "Connecting Point" on it and its red. I often am at the top of the score list in cs:s. Matter of fact I've been banned before for hacking while using my cheat\shit mousepad. (I wasn't cheating of course.) Like I said if you have money to blow then go ahead and get a "gaming mousepad." Like I also said, it's not going to improve your score at all. It might make the mouse slide a little smoother, but it won't make you a better player. I've also never cleaned a mousepad in my life. Why would you want a mousepad that requires maintenance>? cleaning your mousepad with windex every 2 weeks WOW.

I'm gonna get the Func 1030 soon. I'm wondering if you need teflon feet for it, or if they help at all. Thanks.
 
I haven't used many mousepads, but I use the Everglide Ricochet 2.52. It got great reviews, it's priced reasonably ($11), low profile (2.5mm) and has two sides to it, one smooth and one not quite as smooth. Made out of plastic so dont have to worry about it breaking, or feeling too cold or hot. I was using a peice of printer paper prior to this, and it was a huge improvement.
 
Yeah I need a new mousepad as well, the thing between cloth mousepads and a good surface is that of friction. So if your trying to make a small smooth movement on cloth you'll end up with large jerky jumps. Ive been looking at the thermaltake gamma pad cause for the lights are ok awesome and I like the x shape, but could live with the normal beveled rectangle. Then again I've never heard/seen any others mentioned.

But I need to get other things before I spend $20 on a mousepad.
 
I like my DKT pad. I've got the small size one. I only wish I got the medium.

It is a cloth pad, yes, but significantly better than any other cloth pads out there. It doesn't slide around, it tracks great with my MX510, and it is quiet (some plastic pads are quite loud). The foam core makes it comfortable to use, and it is cheap.
 
People who say surface doesn´t matter. It´s kind of funny these people have never had anything else then cheapass surfaces ;).

Now cheap can be good if you find the right one that fits your mouse but you have a much larger chance of success with some of the more serious mousepad makers :).

As for maintenance free stay away from anything glass and aluminium. In that case yes get a cloth pad. There is some decent ones like Qpad but you may have to replace them as they wear out.

But I have a corepad. You have to clean it once in a while for best performance however it´s safety glass so it never wears down the slightest. I also have the Exactmat now and though it´s the best mousepad I have it´s maintenance hell. I have to clean it and clean it and clean it or else I get a invisible sand corn or something where I can hardly move my mouse before I remove it.

Not very practical and it´s getting on my nerves really. But clean it´s superior to anything else I have tried.
 
Func 1030 is great and cheap compared to icemat or steelpad.

I picked one up from newegg for $12. They are $19 now, but out of stock.
 
A couple of months, I wanted the IceMat, but the damn thing was sold out at every store I looked at and $50 wasn't looking too appealing after awhile. One of my roommates also had a func, but I wasn't too impressed with it.

After reading reviews, I actually ended up with the Thunder 9 pad (smooth version) by X-Raypad. Teamed up with the free teflon feet they give you, my mx1000 flies...it's almost too sensitive now (I'm a very twitchy player).

$23 at newegg right now. If it's too big, they also have the older Thunder 8, which is a smaller version, and also has reversable sides (like the func) depending on your preference.

Get one support the [H]ard effort. got one from frozen cpu for ten bucks with some little teflon strips, real smooth. No cleaning necessary. :D

Func is the way to go. 20 bucks from newegg. I never thought a decent mouse pad would make a difference, but I was dead wrong.
 
I was never a big fan of the hard surface pads- a friend recommended the Ratz Pad, and it was just way too jittery and out of control for my tastes...

However I AM a huge fan of the cloth pads- I bought the "Fatal1ty" model from ThinkGeek.com, and it has a massive surface area- basically takes up one whole side of my desk. I love it- I hate slipping off the side of the mouse pad during an intense gaming session...with this one, I never have to think about it.

this badboy is the toughest pad out there and ideal for the lan'er that doesn't care where he sets up. it has a metal base, a smooth surface and its supa sexy. many have seen mine and had to have one. ....one pad to rule them all!

I really never understood the need for a large mousepad. Do you guys really have your sensitivity low enough where it would require more than a few inches to move completely around?

This is a truely awesome pad..... it will not slide an inch when playing, because instead of wussy little feet the entire back of the metal base is coated with this no slip rubber surface that reminds me of the rubber stuff they stick under carpets. The action on the top is smoooth as well, especially if you hit it with a little bit of pledge.

It's also available locally, you can check it out at best buy, and for <15 you definately get a lot more than any other pad in the price range. True, no mouse pad is going to magically make you awesome, but this pad really does remove any impediment to you doing whatever you are capable of. No crappy friction, no sliding mousepads :)

In short, yes we do, at least for FPS gaming like CS :) If you look at what the best players are doing, they are playing at 2.0 and under sensitivity in CS:S. Overshooting your aim is the number one problem in such an accuracy based twitch game. If you get used to using a big mouse pad, more range of motion, and less sensitivity, your accuracy will improve. Same can apply for UT2k4, or any shooter really. Other key is to kill any type of mouse acceleration. You want your mouse movements to map directly to your reticle movements, predidctably and with a linear speed correlation. Windows XP by default always has at elast a bit of mouse acceleration enabled, which you need sometime like CPL mousefix to kill.
 
Well not entirely true. In UT 2004 you can benefit tons of high sense allowing you to make 180:s quickly.

It´s just preference really. It what suits you best not what suits pro x best ;)

Ignorance. A good mousepad will give you better consistency and accuracy. If you've never experienced anything but a "shit mousepad" then don't comment. Seriously.

Cool i just got the Allsop mousepad from Bestbuy for 15$, its really great, i recommend it, but i dont know how i'm supposed to clean it?! just windex or what?

Regardless, I put a white piece of paper on it, and WHAM instant Slick surface! And if the paper becomes damaged? Replace it!

Works wonders!
