I used to use glossy photo paper printed completely black.


It worked surprisingly well.
 
I use a monster-sized X-Trac pads mousepad. It's about 17"x11" I think. It works relatively well, but isn't too comfortable. I'm looking to get a new one that's cloth. What goes good with a Razer Diamondback?

Oh, and I don't really want a FunC pad, and price doesn't matter.
 
Why use a mouse pad? I use my table and my old school microsoft ball mouse with wire that I will stand next to 100% and swear up and down that it owns all your fancy laser mice, becasue, well it does. And its a hell of a lot cheaper at that...Anywho, about the mouse pad, just use your table.
 
I bought a Ratzpad.. a friend fo mine had a Func and I didnt like it as much. The Icemat looks kind of neat, if I didnt already have a Ratzpad I would look to one of those maybe but since I've never seen or used one in person I can say how they perform.

Mousing surfaces DO make a differance, especially with optical mice... the Ratzpad performs much better to me than the many differant desk surfaces I've been around and better than the cloth pads. I tried to get my dad to use one but he is happier with the OVERSIZED cheap style pad as he said the Ratzpad was too small. Doesnt effect me in size but in FPS's he and I have pretty differant gaming styles.

Edit, The black Ratzpad looks better to me but I think [H] had a run of white ones, which I think would be better for the sensor to pickup on, especially if any of you have replaced your red LED with a green or blue one.

Im still using my Max Payne cloth with rubber back mouse pad. It started to get gummed up with a couple of years worth dirt and grime and I started to consider getting a new fancy one. Then, in a fit of frustration, I put some dish soap on it and scrubbed and rinced it and now its smooth as silk again.
 
I used to swear by the 3m mousepads in the quake 2 days when i used a ballmouse, but have since moved on to the ratpadz gs. Im pretty happy with it, and its on the cheaper side. I really dont see the point of getting a real expensive one because you will not become that much better just because of a mousepad. The biggest changes i have had in my own playing have come from using different configurations.

amazing pad, and you can get them for free from alien ware if you get them to sponsor your LAN parties. they sent my 5 t-shirts, 5 func pads, tons of stickers/coupons, 2 mice and 3 hats for my 25 person lan a few months ago. we had a great time and almost everyone got some something from alienware, and those who did not get alienware stuff got stuff from other sponsors.

lucky. we got 4 shirts 2 func's 2 crappy final fantasy pads, and stickers fr our 25 man lan. no mie or anything cool like that. this month we have a 35 man lan, and we got 5 shirts, ONE func, SIX crappy final fantasy pads, and stickers. still no mice or anything cool. :(

but still, does anyone know is the allsop's are a hard mousing surface as well as being embedded into a steel frame? or is it a soft flimsy surface in a hard frame?
 
im STILL trying to get my G/F to give me the orange func 1030 she won at Lanchelms while she was with me..it still sits in its steel case shrinkwrapped under a book..she wont give it up

I have the Allsop pad too, I love it. It's thick solid metal, you could probably knock someone out with it heh....and it's built like it'll last forever!
 
another vote on the Allsop metal pad, I replaced aging mousepad and mx700 with the allsop and a 518. Quite satisfied, and a luxo lan accessory :D
 
My vote goes to the IceMat. For the price... It just doesn't wear. I've had a Ratpadz, and it not only ate the feet off the mouse, but the pad itself wore as well. Now, about a year and a half later, entirely useless. The glass of the Icemat doesn't seem to have that problem, nor does it eat mouse feet, and windex is a pretty easy cleaning solution.

Also, re: Concerns of glass breakage. It's on the desk, next to my tower, and monitor, all of which were signifigantly more expensive, and therefore they are in a 'no break things' zone in this apartment. One of the few zones as that, in fact. Anyways, no harm has come to them, therefore I do not see any point in mentioning that 'glass can shatter.'

Oh, and yes, in chilly weather, they are a little cold on the wrist.
 
The Func 1030 Limited edition pads are supposed to be very good also. I ordered one from NewEgg and will tell you guys what I think of it when it gets here. It looks snazzy!

Depending on the paper, it can work suprisingly well. Suitable amount of friction, very even surface. I recommend taping it to the desk. :D
 
Just get yourself a optical mouse no need for a mouse pad lol
 
ratpadz wear out pretty quick, in my experience.

I thought mine was just dirty, but that wasn't it, the bumps on the surface are actually wearing down. Once that happens, instead of a nice slick surface, you end up with one that actually grabs at the mouse. Thing is big enough, though, that I just turned it 180 degrees so that I'm using a different area on the pad for most mousing.
