I have an old ABIT Fatal1ty I9HD motherboard that I want to use to build a Small Form Factor gaming rig.

It has a LGA775 socket and I need a processor for it.

I have used a 955 Extreme Edition processor in the past for a Fatal1ty IN9 SLI, and have been happy with it, but I am looking for newer and faster.

I am thinking of spending about $300 for a new CPU.

Any advice?

Which would be the best $300 CPU for this board?
 
Looks like it supports at least 65nm core 2's, and MIGHT support a 45nm one.
 
If you're willing to spend up to $300 on a CPU, you'd be better off upgrading to a more recent LGA775 motherboard that supports the newer 45nm quad-core CPUs, or even going all-out and getting an i7 chip and a micro-ATX motherboard like the ASUS Rampage II Gene. IMO, it isn't worth keeping that motherboard to use in a higher-end rig.
 
If you're set on keeping that board, I'd probably just get a Q6600 and be done with it.
 
Xbox 360 and call it a day no more upgrading,save some major cash over the next few years
 
Sorry, it was the lower end QX6850 that was mentioned. :rolleyes:
