Hi everybody and I hope you are all well .

I am buying a New conroe rig soon, I have already sorted the memory out and that was the SuperTalent DDR2 1000 PC8000 2 X1GB.

All I Have left now is the HSF,MOBO and CPU but i have decided to buy the E6600 .

I have been advised the Scythe but when i started checking them out there turns out to be quite a few.Which Scythe?

So please could i have you advice in what should i buy for the HSF?

Thankyou everybody for reading this and have a nice day.

Also i am going to overclock it and silence isnt really a issue.

The budget will be £35 or $64 US
:)

Scythe Ninja, Thermaltake Big Typhoon, Tuniq Tower 120

Some others are good too.

Thats the one I'm planning to get for my E6300

you'll reach chipset FSB limit before you reach CPU limit, extreme cooling is not needed :)

scythe ninja with a good 60+cfm fan will be perfect...then put a few exhast fans and intake fans in your comp and itll be perfect :)...correct me if im wrong but conroes run a lot cooler than previous p4's right? like around the 40 degree mark?

if you are going with the Tuniq, then be warned, it is HEAVY!!!
as in, Its so heavy, you have to make sure your Mobo can take it.

You also can't buy the Tuniq at the moment. From what I understand the machine that makes them is broken and they won't be available again until sometime in august and that is why they haven't been available anywhere online for the past while.

Let me throw in my $.02 and say HSF that blow down onto the motherboard can promote good motherboard health, since they are designed to have air blown on them. I would recommend something like the Thermalright XP-120

Or SI-120...either one.

From what I've read, the Tuniq Tower 120 is best for high airflow, and the Scythe Ninja is best for low airflow/passive operation. The Tuniq Tower 120 has a very high fin density and apparently doesn't work too well with low airflow, low noise fans such as the Nexus.

The Tuniq Tower seems to be out of stock everywhere at the moment, though... so also consider the Thermalright Ultra 120 and SI-128, the Thermaltake Big Typhoon, and the Zalman CNPS-9500. They're all very good heatsinks that should work excellently with Conroe.

Yea, I'm wondering why no one mentioned the Zalman CNPS-9500 before. IMO, its one of the best out there. Its not THAT big either, not as big as some of these other ones. I'm not sure if I'd be able to close my case if I had a Tuniq Tower or Scythe Ninja installed.

Yeah, I'm down with the SI-128 I think (90% sure). Good cooling, quiet, and blows air down on the motherboard which helps overall system cooling.

Well, that assumes nobody comes out with a damn 965G mATX motherboard soon, which I'd prefer and may cause me to get a smaller one e.g. XP-90 instead.

I talked to Arctic Cooling company and a guy named Huber and he was saying that there will be new coolers at end of july and middle august , just hope i can get some reviews on them before i buy.

yeh artic coolers are generally for people on lower budgets but theyre still amazing coolers...lets hope they bring out something in the scythe league because i like artic cooling :) they have gr8 support and nice prices

Are you sure it won't fit in your case? Pretty much any case with 120mm exhaust fans should work with any of those HSF's.

all those hs seem like they would have trouble fitting into my case (lanboy)
is there something less tall?
I can guarantee that any of the HSF's we've talked about here will fit into your lanboy. I owned the original lanboy and I've seen the Super Lanboy.

Also, if you want to use a s478 cooler that used the stock retention module, you can always get the Thermalright LGA775 adapter for the XP-90's.

indeed ive fit a coolermaster hyper 6+ (15cm tall heatsink) in the same chassis w. the side panel an inch away from the heatsink ;)
