Best DDR3 ram?

I do a lot of VM's on my laptop and want to upgrade to 8GB's of ram on my Asus G60JX notebook. I see good reviews on both Corsair and Mushkin, wondering what is the best of the best today. Quality/Reliability and performance. which brand is the perfect 10?
 
Got another question now that I've looked around on newegg.com, I can get a 4gb stick and another corsair for 4xx.xx or I can get the duel channel kit for 299.99. Wondering if those would work in my notebook. Defiantly cheaper.
 
Hands down Mushkin is a superior product to all most major memory vendors today. Hand selected and tested memory with production facilities in the US. And they have not gone the way of Kingston and others by mostly producing safer slow setting DDR memory.

I went through three brands of DDR3 before settling in on Mushkin for all my I5 & I7 builds.

Corsair gets my vote. I've had good experiences with their products as well as their RMA process, so I'm sure they should run great if you choose to get notebook ram from them.

G.Skill sounds like it should be a power tool.;)
 
No one manufacturer is really better than another, most memory is just memory.

I've used Samsung, Adata, Elpidata, Corsair, Gskill, OCZ, Crucial, Micron, Infineon, Nanya and Super Talent.

The Samsung, Gskill and OCZ all overclocked quite well. OCZ especially has great user support forum wise.

I'm only running Corsair ram in my rig currently as when X58 first released Corsair was about the only ram that was stable on the platform.

Only memory I'd recomend staying away from is Elixir, Cheap crappy high failure rate stuff it is.

Just find a good price see what kind of forum support the vendor has and go with whatever.
 
Something with name brand chips on it where the brands can be identified by reading the chip packages without voiding the warranty. Brands include Samsung, Hynix, Micron, Nanya, ProMOS, Powerchip, Elpida.
 
been running corsair staring with DDR 400 on up to the Doms. never a problem but getting over priced.
 
I have Mushkin RAM and it overclocks well, runs real fast, nice heatsink size (not to big, not to small)
 
Crucial and Corsair are the top manufacturers. Actually, Crucial is a chipset producer, which means many brands like Corsair, Muskin, Kingston, etc. use their chips.
 
I have had more problems with micron memory than samsung, infineon, hynix ..

However that is for modules that do not have heat spreaders and I can see the manufacturer. Who knows the gskill and corsair that I buy frequently (at work and home) could be using MT chips and I have had little issues with that.
 
In my experience, Gskill and Mushkin are always my first two choices. More often than not, they overclock the best and have had no problems with either brand despite buying more of them in comparison to the other brands. Corsair would be my third choice if neither of those two were available as they have been reliable and tend to OC well. Crucial has a high failure rate in the builds I have done so unless the deal is good I tend to steer away, Patriot is good but has had some compatibility issues from time to time. OCZ has been average in terms of overclocking and reliability as has Super Talent, PQI, Kingston and Geil.
 
I'm a big fan of G.Skill ram. I've only had experience with their desktop memory, but it looks pretty sweet and the warranty is phenomenal.

I had to send in a set of Ripjaws because of memory dumps, G.Skill received the memory from me on a Wednesday, and I had a package of brand-new Ripjaws on Friday. Can't beat that.
 
Up until recently, I thought I was about to build a new X58 system, so I was researching overclockable DDR3 RAM.

I came up with the following as the best value choices:

- G.skill Eco DDR3 1600 7-8-7 (low voltage, but supposedly with a bunch of overclocking headroom to 1.55v. Lower voltage will decrease IMC temp on the i7 CPU)

Notable results: 1800mhz 7-8-7-20-1t 1.65v, 1800 7-8-7-24-1T 1.54v, 1600mhz 6-7-6-1T 1.54v - and then some runs at 2000-2195mhz at 6-9-6-24...good lord

Newegg has the OCZ DDR3 2000 9-9-9-30 on sale for $80 AR per 4GB, but I'm guessing it won't be as good as the G.skill.

Those are the elpida ic's that many people use. I've seen them mushkin, corsair, g.skill, and I think Super Talent, probably others too. They are some of better ddr3 ic's around, and are just now starting to get relegated to second tier.
 
Corsair & G Skill are on the top of my list by a long shot. I've have plenty of issues with Mushkin & OCZ ram on the P35 & P45 chipset. Can't say how well the are now with the current chipsets that are available since I avoid them at all cost for customers :D.

I wanted to get some 1600 and I went with mushkin because they offer some 6-8-6-24. I haven't had any problems with it, but haven't tried to overclock. However the customer support on their forums is ridiculously good! Even on the weekends! So I'd stay go with Muskin just for the support.
 
Have to give props to G.Skill. Ran Corsair Dominators for a while, but always had issues. Just wouldn't hold up well at all - especially when overclocked. Finally sold them and went with G Skill. Rock solid and smooth sailing since day one.

I've tried other brands in the past as well: Super Talent, OCZ, Patriot, Kingston.

There are lots of good choices out there, but I've always had the best luck with G.Skill modules. Heard good things from others about Mushkin as well.
 
+1 for Corsair. It is the only brand I have used in my desktop. When I was too poor to afford the XMS series, I had the Value Select series and had zero issues with it.
 
G.Skill has worked flawlessly for me, in both laptops and desktops.

6-8-6 really isn't very good timing. For DDR3-1600 I'd rather have 6-7-6 or 6-6-6. It's funny seeing all these PSC-based kits out now that have low CAS but tRCD timing is like 2 or 3 clocks slower, which kind of defeats the purpose. I'm glad I grabbed some Elpida Hyper kits like these.

6-8-6-24 is the stock timings, and these were one of the better original ic's. Many have these running at 6-7-6-18. I know people that have gotten theirs stable at 6-6-6-18, yet with higher voltage. People run this ram at stock timings at 2000mhz, it has lots of oc room.

In fact much of the original 8-8-8-24 2000mhz ram was based off these ic's. It just depends on which company gets them and how much time they spend binning them for better parts. Corsair does this, and uses many of the good chips in their dominator line, which will cost you around $420 for 6gb of ram i can get for $220. Mushkin offers the same ic's with better pcb's just not binned and marked up to exorbitant fees.

You can find good alternatives from all the manufacturers now that ddr3 has matured, I bought Mushkin because it has good customer service and the price was $200 for Ridgebacks I have run at 2000mhz at 6-7-6-21 @1.9v.

The difference in performance really wasn't worth my worrying about the extra voltage, so I knocked it back down to stock. Above 1600mhz there isn't much gain. I'm sure as a new architecture comes around with fatter pipes and better memory controller it will be worth it, but right now the gains are minimal.
