Best CPU cooling software

head on over to www.majorgeeks.com they have some software that claim to cool your cpu, but i havnt tried it... Personally i dont think software could could your cpu much unless it just decreased the voltage delivered durring down time... but i dont know =P
 
I used to have a program that did this back in Windows 98. It would use the idle cycles, somehow, to cool down the CPU. It worked - I dropped 2c idle when running it.

I believe Windows does this automatically in 2000/XP though.
 
It is any application or bios that tickles the HLT instructions when the cpu is at idle...

Rain cpu, cpu waterfall etc...

programs like rain and cpuidle really arent usefull anymore because the NT kernel issues this command when windows is idle anyway. they were very usefull back when people were using windows 9x. and yes they DID work :D

Actually Windows NT does this too.

So, if you are still running Windows 9x/ME then it can help, but in Windows NT/2000/XP CPU cooling software does nothing.

I don't have any problem cooling my CPU of my desktops but this is a laptop. Compaq is running hot and it's frozen a lot lately. I tried the CpuIdle Extreme but the touchpad is not working smootly with any settings so I got to remove it. I'm using WinXP Pro with a lot of tweakings but still not good enough. I hate laptop because I can't change the HSF or go water cool and also don't have gut to play with it, might be because can't find parts for it. Any more suggestions?
 
I was fukcing around at Majorgeeks a while back and downloaded some of the cooling software. I tried it on my sig system with Windows XP and it dropped my CPU temp about 4-5C! No jokes. You switch it on, and the ABIT EQ utility reports a drop almost immediately. How accurate it is, I don't know. I didn't benchmark the system with or without it, though. Just my $0.02.
 
i used to use CPUCool n CPUIdel on my setup n it worked. when pc is idel it seem to reduce the cpu temp by 3-4c compared to not using the program. n when cpu is hot, it can reduce temp quickly. ie. after running a game u run the program n the cpu would cool down to idel temp much quicker. however it wasn't useful cos it couldn't reduce cpu temp when u most needed it, when u run games, benchmarks, etc.
