Best Case under $150? Using prices from the Egg.

I dont need 10 5.25 bays and 6 3.5 bays, i just want a sick, high quality unit with good cooling. Aluminium is preffered.

IMO the Thermaltake Tsunami is the best. ;) Exactly what you are looking for, and can fit 2 150mm fans :cool:
 
the best case is one that meets yoru needs. for me, I think its going to be the Antec Super LANboy. i love the side mounting hard drive bays, its aluminum, uses 2 moderately quiet 120mm fans (1 front 1 back), and it has a front mounted screw / tool compartment that blends in seemlessly to the case. but thas just me. oh and thats only about 80
 
What about the TJ06 and some of the low-end Lian Li like the PC-61? They better than the Wavemaster and the Praetorian?

Personally, I would have to recommend the Wave Master or Praetorian. I have worked with the Wave Master in person and have to say it has top-notch quality and construction.

I tend to stay away from Thermaltake's cases as I find most of them too gimmicky.
 
Ive never had any other case to compare it with, but I have a dismantled Praetorian in my bedroom now (Crimbo pressie), and I can tell you that it is stylish, has an amazing finish, and is solid. The front panel is 4 mm thick!
 
only problem i had with my Tj06 was the AUX p4 connector wasnt long enough

10min, 2' of wire and a soldering iron and problem solved

Can't really go wrong with that, although most of the other ones mentioned are very high-quality as well.
 
It seems (correct me if i'm wrong) that the TJ06 has the best cooling, but the Praetorian (IMO) looks the best. What i would like is some a) conformation that a OCZ PSU will work with a TJ06 or b) get some measurements from the psu to the ATX and P4 connectors, or c) Have some people tell me what psu they use with the TJ06.

Overall, if i can get some confirmation that the TJ06 works with a powerstrea, it's on it's way, but if not, the praetorian is mine. ;)
 
Be careful with the Silverstones. Yeah, I love their looks, but if you want a halfway quiet case, you're going to be shit out of luck. The airflow in front is horrible, especially if you have the case on carpeting, so you'll have to use a more powerful (louder) fan to compensate. I'm in it for the quiet aspect, so I ruled that case out real quick. Such a shame, it's so damn pretty.

The Cooling is only worse if you don't care about 50dBA of fan noise from your Tsunami. It was one of the loudest cases EVER reviewed by Anandtech http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/thermaltake tsunami dream_09080490953/4419.png

The Coolermaster Cavalier is really well built, easy install, and has great airflow if you replace the 120mm rear fan with a Vantec Stealth or SilenX. The case is nearly silent and cools fantastically.
 
I was building a PC for neighbours and I'm also horrified at the noise off those fans. If it had been for me I would have returned it to the seller as false advertising. Loudest case ever, and I used to have a Thermaltake Lanfire with a QTec PSU ! :eek:
 
Probably not. You'll probably be better off with a Coolermaster or a Lian Li for build quality/quiet. The full tower Antecs are built on the same internal structure as the good, discontinued, ATCs Coolermaster series and should be reasonably quiet with the fans it comes with plus some Vantec Stealths or some SilenX.
 
Your best bet would be either a Cooler Master or Lian-Li case. A Praetorian, Stacker or Wavemaster would be great for you.
 
I like and have this one. That back fan grill is the first thing that I would take off of it....other than that it is good. They also carry it in black and/or with a window.
 
The 120mm fan is quiet, it's got a little bit of blue light in front for some coolness,and it really keeps things cool by letting the heat out. Like an aluminum case should. I like the temp. readout on top. It's been good too me.

I have narrowed it down to 3 cases. Lian-Li PC-61 or -60, and the CM Praetorian. They both seem great. Is there anyone who has experienced both and can comment on them?

I WILL be replacing the fans with some good 80mm fans. Which ones?

All have clean, classic looks. Lian-Li has removable drive cages whereas CM doesn't. Don't think you can go wrong with any of 'em.

I have the Praetorian, great case. Many people who I have heard who have had both say the Praetorian has better build quality than Lian Li. They are both great cases, and IMO I find the Praetorian a much nicer case. I hate stamped fan grills :D.
If the only thing putting you off a Praetorian is the grill, I can tell you that I hated it too, but in real life it is beautiful, completey flush with the case.

EDIT:Good luck finding one though :D I cant find anymore for my mate in the UK, but you might have better luck in USA.
 
I'd like to have the CD and floppies the same colour as the case, and i saw a cm cd cover. Can you attest to that it works with most cd/dvd drives?
 
I'm an Aussie - LOL. Our tech is the most overpriced in the world. Imagine paying $388 US for 1gb of OCZ plat rev 2's. That's how much it is with today's exchange rates. 500 AUD = 388 US.

So what 80mm fans? I heard panaflow's are good

I have the ATC201 and it looks like the Praetorian but it's piano black... and one of the reasons I bought it was the clean grill. It's not gaudy like most of the cases are nowadays. I wish I could find another one or wish cm would make them again.

Im looking for a case for my first build and I think im getting the Praetorian. Either that or the centurion 5. Im a little worried about noise I mean 4x80mm fans would make alot noise. Well thats what I would assume. The other thing I kind of dont like is how the face of the case like on the top bottom and sides are not even with the rest of the case. Like it doesnt run flush and even with the rest of the case build. But I think im going to get it anyway I like the front ports too.
 
Get some SilenX or Vantec Stealth fans and you'll have great cooling in almost silence. Four of those fans will be quieter than one standard 120mm and move more CFM too.
 
Another vote for the Praetorian. All others pale by comparison. Though it could use about an inch more front to back depth.
