Hello,

my graphics card died this week and I am looking into purchasing a new one. Here is my system:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
ASUS AMD socket AM2 M2N4-SLI motherboard
2GB Kingston Value RAM
Thermaltake Toughpower 750watt Power supply
LG Flatron 17" Monitor

I am looking at this card from BestBuy (I dont usually buy my pc components there but I just moved and I'm not familiar with any local computer stores) As there are no reviews for it I was wondering what the consensus would be from the wonderful people here.

here is the link:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8983745&type=product&id=1218004430629

its a BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1GB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card
model #: BFGR951024GTE

I have read that 1gb is the same performance as 512mb, is that true? and also will I be able to run this card with my current setup?

If there is another card that would be better and is within the $100-200US price range I'll be happy to look into them. I am not interested in overclocking, just want a nice card that will play games like Spore, Sims 2, and various MMOs on their highest settings.

Thank you for your time, and any responses,

Completely not worth it, that's the price range of an HD 4850 for crying out loud!

As for the memory thing, it might actually run worse thanks to the possible use of slower memory.

750 watt power supply powering an AMD Athlon 64 X2? Heh.

Get an HD4850...Preferably, from Newegg.com and not Best Buy.

I am primarily looking at Geforce cards... should have mentioned that sooner, sorry.

why? I don't know... have been using them for years :D

Why Geforce cards? I mean, I'm running an 8800GT right now, but I entertain no entrenched loyalties to any company.

Anyway, check out the 9800GT+ then?

I'm assuming he got an awesome deal on it, heck I'm hoping he did. Otherwise he got ripped off or ripped himself off. :p

ripped off on the power supply or the processor?

I wanted a decent power supply, just to be future proof. I'd rather have more power than needed then not enough. I don't intend to get all new parts every 3 years. Anyway, everything seems to work okay for me. I had a geforce 7950 gtx graphics card before, but when I moved I had UPS ship my computer and they weren't careful and it came loose... so its toast now. But I'm not asking if my set up is good, I'm asking what card would work best with the set up.
Thanks for your responses, I am looking up the cards you guys mentioned now. :)

if you are looking at Geforce, may as well go for a GTX 260 or 280 ..... GTX260 is under $250 now.
