Best bang for buck cpu?

amd 3800 x2 socket am2 for a little more cash. i dont know much about intel cpus and/or pricing. i had an 805d for a couple months while waiting for c2d and when it was overclocked to 3700mhz (very easily done) it ran about the same as my amd 3800 x2 ocverclocked to 2800mhz when doing re/trans coding and other vid stuff.

PD805 and use some of the rest of that money and buy a Scythe Ninja and you should be set. overclock the PD805 to around 4.001 Ghz and you're good to go =D

If you get a good one, the current prices on 3800x2s can't be beat. I've got 3 office machines running 'em and they top out around 2.5, which is OK. I lucked into a used $135 Toledo for my new homebuild and it purrs at 2.85 on air. So it's the luck of the draw, but I think the 3800x2 is definitely the budget king right now...

hmm why dont you edumacate yourself.?

go here
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08...6/page4.html#go_to_the_interactive_cpu_charts

and look at the video benchmarks and see if the program you intend to use is listed or a comparable one. Check the other benchmarks to see if any others apply to your needs.

Then go here
http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=430&model2=464&chart=195

and see how all the cpus perform at your inteded application.
Also take a look at the price/performance chart, the ones at the top give best bang for buck.

without closing the window or print it out, open a window to your favorite Estore and see for your price range which cpu you can afford that performs your intended task the best.
