Best backpack for a laptop?

This might seem sorta silly but I'm looking for a nice backpack or bag for my laptop in college.

I want to spend $100 or less, preferably in the 50 or less category if you can get a nice bag for that price.
Help is appreciated :)
 
How big is the laptop? Anything over 5-6lbs I tend to suggest using a two strap backpack over something like a monostrap or a messenger bag.

Best advice I can offer is to just try some out in a store and go with something that feels comfortable. Make sure to bring your laptop or something else to add weight to the bag for reference. If you are using a heavier laptop make sure that the backpack sits high and close to your body. You'll rip your back a new one if you let a heavy load slouch on your back.
 
13" macbook... I only really have two big textbooks and those classes are split up, so I'll only have one big textbook in my bag at a time.
 
If you want something comfy, try the Jansport with the Airlift straps. My bag has been rock-solid durable for the past couple of years, something I can't say for the Eastpaks I had before. It has a notebook pocket but what I like to do is just keep the notebook in the front pocket and everything else in the back, since I don't carry around much else in it.
 
I went with the STM through Amazon.com

I read that the Brenthaven's were, to quote one of the articles, "Like wearing a ninja turtle shell." I just don't think I need a backpack that huge lol, so I went with the 15.4 STM Evolution (because I plan on upgrading to MBP in 1-2 years)

Anyway, I paid for the whole thing with coins b/c coinstar counts coins for free if you get a gift certificate and you cna get them for amazon.

Or the itunes store!

I highly recommend that route :)
 
I like the STM's myself. I bought a Wenger last week because it was really well made and had decent protection - I knew it would last a long time and take a beating doing it. Then I realised the industrial strength zippers would go right over the top corners of my Hewlett Packard. About the only place missing heavy padding is the top. I wouldn't even care so much about the padding but the zippers not only went right over the corners but they made a big racket when walking. I sounded like a laptop elf with all the jingling zippers.

I like the STM's if they are well built, The Targus packs are not that solid. SInce the Brenthavens are on the Apple site I wasn't interested in them. I would probably pick up someones elses pack one day if a lot of them are out there lol.
 
I have a Targus TBB003US. I like it alot. Plenty of space without being too bulky, lots of padding on the shoulders and back. Plenty of protection in the laptop compartment aswell, paired with a good sleeve (I use a shinza zeroshock) it'll survive anything, I've had it fall down stairs, off the roof of my jeep, and other various bonehead situations and nothing has been damaged. Also it has a little mini-raincoat built into it that you can put over the backpack to keep everything inside safe (great for me since it rains and snows alot where I go to school). Its very solidly built imo, I've had it for about a 2 years and have had no problems with it despite me being fairly rough on it. Only problem I see is that its made for 15.4 laptops, and though the protection in the notebook compartment is adjustable, I dunno if a 13" would be snug in there. Worth a test run though if you can find a store that sells them.
 
I have a mobileedge I got from Dell with my 700m 2 years ago and its perfect. its made to snugly fit a 14" or well fit the 700m (its a 12" but its a bit bigger than most 12" due to the battery sticking out of the back). It would be perfect for a 13" MB. I dont know if Dell still offers it but look for a backpack on their site specified for the 600m and 700m.
