Im looking to buy speakers with a 2.1 setup. Anyone know which speaker if the best bang for the buck for under 200?

I was thinking of going with the Klipsch 2.1

I have the klipsh 2.1 setup and they are amazing for what they are. Games, music, movies, they do it all.

Hmmm I read a lot of good review on the Logitech Z-2300...some claim its the best 2.1 speaker around and its cheap.

isn't it funny that nobody can spell Klipsch properly :p ?

IMO the promedia 2.1 klipsch speakers are better than the logitechs. They sound rich and are crystal clear while the logitechs are a bit muddy

Where did u hear from? actual experience?
actually, yes sir

I've had my Klipsch 2.1's for more than 2 years now, and I just listened to the Logitechs at a store, and they just sound muffled and wierd compared to the klipsch (damn that is tricky to spell LOL). They're certainly not bad, logitech makes great stuff, but when it comes to computer speakers, IMO, Klipsch is the king

I've heard the Klipsch Promedia 2.1s and the Logitechs in similar environments and preferred the Klipsch. Although they both will not achieve the sound of a powered monitor pair... how bout the randomly selected under $200 with shipping Event TR6's?

Thats priced "each" unfortunately, a pair would cost $400 ;)

My dad has the bose system, and they are awesome. Not sure of the price though.

Found out they are $250. Maybe you can expand your budget, or perhaps find a deal somewhere. They are fantastic speakers, IMO.

I had Klipsch 2.1 a couple years ago and damn, they lived up to Klipsch's reputation for being bright. Painfully bright.

If you like bass, go with the Logitech. Especially boomy bass. I prefer a more real sound, but if you like that go for it.

The Klipsch sub is not as powerful as the logitech, but the Klipsch Promedia speakers are superior to the logitechs. Most will find similar results. The sound is based on your preference, for bass or for clarity and your listening environment. If your computer is loud, or fan happy, you may not notice the difference. Not that the difference is subtle, but your ears may not be attune to the differences.

If you like the logitech bass, and want better sound quality, replace the left front and right front speakers with something like the Hometheaterdirect Middies. They will run about $130 for the pair, but would work very well on the limited power supplied by the logitech unit.

I asked the same question in here a few years ago and 2 speaker sets came up everywehre: promedia 2.1's and the Altec Lansing mx5021's

How it worked out to be was the promedias had better bass (arguablly muffled by audiofile standards) while the AL's had better mids/highs.

I ended up picking up the mx5021's due to "look" and ease of use (look better and pod with remote rather then controls on uglyish sat)

I have no regrets; and consider them a better buy in the price range

I could expanse my budget to get the Bose companion 3 for 250 since it would a long term investment. If I were to go with the lower end speakers it would prob be the logitech since there differences arent that great comparing to the Klipsch and its about 40 buck cheaper...

Heh, yes I am an idiot. Thanks for pointing that out SJetski. Though that would have been a sweet deal. If you want to push more money into some speakers you could probably get a decent monitor pair for less than $250.

Don't do Bose unless you want something that is way overpriced for what you get.

Just do a search on google or here for that matter on why Bose is all about marketing tactics and not about providing good sound quality per dollar. I'm not saying Bose has terrible products they just don't cut it when it comes to how much you spend on it.

Quite possible. I'm no audiophile, and I also didn't pay for them. So, there you go.

Yea thats true, I read an article about Bose maketing tactics...soo logitech or klipsch? lol i cant make up my mind.

Your local BestBuy should have both models. Go there and give them a listen then get the one you like best online.

as most people have said. if you like the boomy bass, lack of mids and the "car audio" feeling, get the logitech. if you want "better sound" go w/ klipsch, the altecs, or a gigaworks 2.1 system. OR you could get some monitors/bookshelves and a receiver for slightly a little bit more. OR you could get some cans and an amp for better sound than all of the above.

I narrow down to the klipsch 2.1 and the Altec Lansing MX502, which has better sound quality?

I have never listened to any of thsoe but I am guessing klipsh

I have heard the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 & the Altec Lansing MX5021 side by side (they used to have them side by side at the local Compusa), and I prefer the MX5021.

i just ordered the Logitech Z-2300's and i will let you know how they sound (with onboard sound, unfortuately) when they come in! :D

not really good thing. They split there singal X numbers of ways, and you really can;t say which is better from that imo.

y not just go 5.1?
5.1 set up all on a desk is worse than and more expensive than a 2.1 set up all infront of you on a desk. I move 3-4 times a year (college) and dont have time to set up proper imaging, and dont think i could get proper palcement in any of the areas aroudn my computer. 2.1 was a better buy for ease of setup and sound quality for the dollar. Now, if i had a steady job and a dedicated computer room; i woudl ahve spent more on a nice surround setup (probably monitor honestly) but i'm not in that position; and 5.1 would be a waste in my position.

i do have a 5.1 home theater system (cheapo package deal) that i setup every time i move, but thats not in same room as my computer but rarely.

I have listened to the Altec MX510 and if you prefer that over the Klipsch then the Klipsch isn't all that. I didn't think the Altec MX510 was a good 2.1 because I didn't really feel the sound. If you want some real sound, I would say go for the monitor speakers.

well i just got logitech x530 5.1 for 35 bucks NOTHING beats that dollar value wise. :)
