So based on review I purchased this monitor and am loving the refresh rate and adjustments I can do with its stand. But im not a huge fan of the image quality. Colors are a little washed out and it being TN having the bad viewing angle. Was wondering if there are any IPS monitors with something similar in terms of refresh. Even if it went to 120 id be fine. Max I want to spend is 550$ and im fine it only being 1080 as Im only running a 960 and play pretty low end games like Dota/Heroes/WoW. Hope you guys can help ;)
 
I am in the same exact boat as you. I bought the XL2720Z, wasn't happy (Although the refresh rate is great), then bought a AOC Q2770PQU to see if I would like a 1440p IPS 60hz monitor instead... and I am way happier. I don't play enough FPS or "fast" games to justify the BenQ, honestly. I play mainly MMO's, Heroes of the Storm, etc, and the image quality of the AOC is just so much better to me in the games I play, than the 144hz 1ms of the BenQ. But of course it depends on the person :)

With that said, I ended up keeping my BenQ to use when I actually do play CS:GO or BF4 or something. Best of both worlds.
 
Have you tried messing with the settings? I know those things ship set to FPS mode which washes out all the colors. Setting it to Standard makes a huge difference. You can also try the settings used in reviews like from TFT Central when they calibrated it and see how those look.

If you haven't tried these things please do and report back. I'm strongly considering this monitor and talk myself in and out of buying it at least twice a day.

I've messed with every setting, tried the ICC profile(s), etc. It's... not horrible... but it's... eh... Again, for what it's made for, the 144hz and low input lag.. it's amazing.. But sacrifices the picture quality and colors very much, in my opinion.

After getting a 1440p IPS monitor to try for the games I play... it just looks so much better than the BenQ. But if I'm playing an FPS, I use the BenQ, because I want it to be "fast" and not "pretty".
 
Yeah that really bothers me about this one. It makes me think Im just going to be a lot better off springing for a higher end IPS or something like the Viewsonic VP2770-LED with excellent picture quality and not worry about 120 Hz. Hell at 1440 I wont be able to get 120+ fps on all the AAA graphic card busting games anyway and Id rather have spectacular eye candy than 120+ Hz refresh rates.

I wish I had a place I could go check these damn things out and decide for myself instead of have to go back and forth every time I read a freaking review. Best Buy is all Ive got for 2 hours in any direction and theyve got shit for monitors on display.

I had the brilliant idea of buying the AOC Q2770PQU online while within my return window for the XL2702Z so I could then decide which one I wanted to keep in the end.. What did I do..? Ended up just keeping both haha.

That Viewsonic is one I was looking at too.. but went with the AOC because it was cheaper. I LOVE my AOC so much.. I really want a second one. If I could sell my BenQ for a decent price, I would use the money for a second Q2770PQU for sure. Especially because I want another monitor to use in portrait mode, but anytime I try with the BenQ, the viewing angles are so bad that it gives me a headache (Which is understandable from a TN panel, of course).

I don't think I could go back to a 1080p for gaming now.. I just love 1440p so much.

Check out that AOC too.. seriously, I love this thing. Only problem is, it's now like $200+ more on Newegg and Amazon than when I bought it. But I think there's one site that has it for about $530. I got it for $499 off Newegg back in December (After the first one was delivered to the wrong house by UPS and no one ever brought it back to us.... still makes me sad that someone out there got one of these for free :'( )
 
Im thinking more and more Im gonna end up with the LG 27MB85R-B for around $540. Its reviewed pretty well from the reviews I can find. There is a thread on here and its supposed to have extremely low lag and response times so its well suited for gamers and its factory calibrated with excellent image quality. At least thats what the reviews say. Ive never seen any of these so who the hell knows.
 
I think my old monitor knew I was trying to replace it. My Hanspree 28inch ive had since 2008 finally died today. Lights turn on but cant seem the power it. RiP buddy.
 
Lads there is one 144Hz IPS monitor out there in the form of the Acer XB270HU and ASUS are releasing the modestly priced MG279Q. You ain't got no excuses to suffer from shit image quality any more.

Lmao.. Aside from the cost. Although, I realize now that I actually spent MORE on buying one 1440p IPS and then the XL2720Z to have the best of both worlds.. They cost about $1000 together..

Honestly, I really want to save up for one of the new gaming IPS monitors... but lately I've been kinda wanting to get a 32"... so I'm torn. If I could sell the XL2720Z for at least half of what I paid for it, I would definitely get a different monitor to use as my side monitor.
 
Yeah that's the rub, $700+ vs $400 not to mention at 1440 my 290x won't be getting 144 FPS in a lot of the newer games.

I'm gonna run down to Frys in Atlanta with a friend Tuesday if I can and actually try out a XL2720Z in person. I'm sick of trying to buy a $500 component based on nothing but reviews.

Yeah think i might wait till more towards the end of the year to get an ips and just play with what I got at the moment. But if you want to sell that XL2720Z feel free to let me know :)

It is definitely not a bad monitor. I just.. really don't play enough FPS's to justify it haha. When I play something like Final Fantasy XIV, it looks soo fluid to use the BenQ and set it to 144hz.. but a game like that just looks SO amazing at 1440p. I always use the BenQ when I play BF4 or CS:GO, anything like that. It's not bad for a TN panel (And it's way better quality than the original Asus VG248QE I got before this). But I really have been turned onto the idea of having a monitor in portrait mode on the side, and this one is so not good at it haha.

I can't wait for the day where I can get a 1440p 144hz IPS monitor for like $500.... One day hopefully haha.

If the MG279Q will actually be 600$ MSRP as sugested at CES, it won't be far off. If they fix the Freesync-overdrive problem before they release it too and put in a strobing mode, that'll be one hell of a powerhouse monitor
