BenQ FP241W Problem

I recently purchased a BenQ FP241W and have been experiencing a strange issue. The monitor is connected with the supplied DV cable to a GeForce FX5200. When changing the display resolution to 1920x1200 (native), I can only view about 7/8 of the screen real estate at a time. The remaining 1/8 is "cut off." I have to move the mouse all the way to the right or left to see the side that is cut off. I am, in a sense, effectively "scrolling" in a horizontal fashion. Thus far, I have only noticed this "effect" when using 1920x1200.

I have already tried:
-Removing/Reinstalling latest NVIDIA display drivers (even used DriverCleaner Pro)
-Removing/Reinstalling latest BenQ drivers (via their website) for the FP241W

I initially hooked the monitor up with a VGA cable to test for stuck pixels (my entertainment center is difficult to work around). When using a VGA connection, the problem described above was NOT apparent.

(BTW, I am on XP)

I am open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

3 Possibilities:

#1: Defected cable. The cable supplied is not that good. I once got a Monster DVI cable was doing the samething (shifted to one side) at resolution1680x1050 on Gateway 22" monitor. I exchanged the cable, then no more problem.

#2: nVidia fx5200, is a low entry video card. I got one with VGA port only. I don't think it is up to the task of displaying 1920x1200 properly anyway. Try to upgrade to a different video card since you upgraded your monitor.

#3: In the nVidia driver menu, there is a selection to select if scaling according to video card or to monitor. Select the one SCALE ACCORDING TO MONITOR. **** This is most likely the casue of your scrolling phenomen **** Your problem is the video card driver is only displaying your old resolution whatever you set up before ie 1600x1200 and didn't reset it to 1920x1200.

There is an auto adjust button in the menu, if your monitor is experiencing image is shift to one side, but your scrolling problem is mostly caused by #3 driver scaling.

RB30, thanks for the suggestions/info.

I suspect the cable is fine, and I actually already tried fiddling with the scaling options you speak of in the NVIDIA Control Panel. As you suggested, I think the culprit is the video card (just doesn't support the needed res over DV). Using the DV cable, 1600x1200 works fine and any resolutions below that. The strange thing is -- it actually gives me the option of selecting 1920x1200 (nothing higher) in the display properties. Also, as I stated in my original post, when using the VGA cable, I can select 1920x1200 (or higher) and the display looks great and there is no "scrolling" problem. I'll experiment with it a bit longer, but I think I'm going to have to get a new video card for the machine.

I just remember that some entry video card (possibly fx5200) only supports 1600x1200 via DVI while 1920x1200 via VGA. So both your video card and monitor are functioning normally. Get a new video card.

Bought the FP241W last night but als problems....
Took off the eizo 17" and connected DVI cable into benq...oops...it says no signal detected. Put the eizo back and it was okay. Checked out the supplied DVI cable and found that 2 columns of pins were "missing" as compared to the one that came with eizo. Aha...maybe that's the problem. Hook the benq DVI cable up and wow...the display came to light...amazing! BUT when I reboot my computer, it keeps saying no signal detected and the computer just hangs. I have to reboot with the eizo and then plug the benq...real nuisance! Tested using VGA cable (D-sub) and it works fine. But I want DVI to work. My display card is Radeon X800GTO with the latest driver. What could be the problem???

It sounds like the video card is locking into:

1) analog VGA, or
2) eizo 17", or
3) frequency other than 60 Hz, or
4) if you have 2 DVI outputs primary or secondary.

Best way is to use eizo 17" monitor to reset your video card output by figuring out which DVI output is the primary, select ONE monitor only, connect ONE monitor only, set initial resolution 640x480 60Hz, then properly shut down computer. remove eizo 17" DVI plug and connect computer to FP241W. Restart computer...

Can you see the text screen in the initial boot-up? Or the no signal only occur after the text screen? Are you using XP or Vista?

Test the FP241W using a different computer.

Or buy a HDMI-DVI adapter/cable and test it using HDMI input. When using HDMI input and 1:1 pixel mapping option, the resolution should initially be 1920x1080 (black bars top and bottom correctly) and not 1920x1200.

Have you tried to run that setup disc that came with FP241W?

Thanks.
My display card has 1 DVI output and 1 VGA output. I'm using WinXP Professional.

No text on the screen as in the boot up text. Only a transient message (BenQ's) informing me that no signal is detected. It remained a black screen thereafter and the computer does not sound like it has boot up all the way to WinXP

I'll do what you suggest...

It's my display card...I need a newer display card.
It tested fine with all the computers in the shop that has a variety of newere display cards
Will be buying the 8800GT...any recommendations?
