BenQ BL3201PH

Strange, I thought this might have been the BL3201PT mislabeled (Thread for the BL3201PT here)

However, I can only find it in a BenQ press release located here: http://www.benq.us/news/2014/BenQ-C...onitors-to-Take-Center-Stage-at-SIGGRAPH-2014

The press release mentions the BL3201PH as using an IPS panel, where as the BL3201PT is supposed to be using an AHVA panel.

Even stranger is that the same press release mentions the BL3200PT as using an AHVA panel, which is wrong as it uses an AMVA panel.
 
If the published specs/price on NCIX are correct then it sounds like a great deal. Thanks for the replies.
 
Coming out in 8 days, should be interesting. Im guessing its the same panel as the ones other manufacturers are selling dor $2k but might have more defects, we will see.

In the bl3200pt topic it said it comes out soon. And i was just wondering if i should get the 3200pt or if the 3201ph or 3201pt would be better for gaming.

The 3200pt is a 1440p monitor so it really can't be compared. The 3201ph is listed as an IPS panel and the 3201pt as an AHVA which is basically the same thing.

Looks like they finally added the PT Model on their site, still can't find anything on the PH

Why do you keep asking this? The monitor isn't out yet, so know one knows which one is better for gaming and they can't be directly compared because the BL3200PT uses a VA panel.

Google some gtx 970 reviews (something you should have done before spending 400$ on a video card), many contain 4K benchmarks.
 
My bad I thought AHVA was the same. It's not out yet but we alrdy know it's suppose to have 4ms gtg response time. Wasn't sure if that's good. Guess I'll just wait for review to come out.

I haven't bough the 970 yet, I'm waiting to see what monitor I get before I choose what gpu I'm getting

I wonder who the OEM is? Because I believe Samsung supplies the many 28 inch 4k TN panels. Like Asus, Acer, Phillips, etc.

I seriously can't wait for this monitor. I want to jump on the 4k bandwagon but there isn't anything decent thats larger than 28 inches. The IGZO panels are crap, running MST, and overpriced as sh!t. And the 28 inch TN panels are just way too small for daily text and usage. I personally wouldn't mind a 32 inch TN 4k....but nobody makes it. This BENQ at about $1000 AND IPS AND 32 inch 4k....sounds very promising.
 
That must Mean the b&h price is a placeholder since they're showing it for $999.99.

What's the normal time frame for reviews?1 month after relrease?

I personally haven't seen one myself....but I didn't like the 28 inch 4k ones I saw. But anybody who has owned the IGZO 4k panels should be able to chime in on text size. Since all IGZO panels were 31.5 inch 4k.
 
If my calculations are correct this should be about the same pixel density as a 15.6" notebook display with fullhd 1920x1080. So if you have one or know somebody with that notebook try it out. I for myself have one and altough I have no problem with the notebook I fear that for the distance of a normal monitor it might be just a little bit small.

4k at 32" diagonal is around 150 PPI. This is a little small for typical desktop use in my opinion, sitting between 2-3' away. I consider 110 PPI to be optimal at that distance, but the higher pixel density would definitely look great in games and images at native resolution.
 
This releases this month right?
That is small :/ but i dnt think there are any better 4k monitors for as cheap ($1k)
 
think ill pick up the bl3200pt instead for now, its on sale and wait for the philips for 4k

The Philips looks very tempting, but I want to wait for more first-hand reviews/impressions before committing to it.

Enjoy the BL3200PT if you get it; it's one of the best monitors I've ever owned and I've had a lot of them.

Was really thinking about getting the BL3201PT/PH but I'm worried that things will be too small. Really considering going with a ~40" for 4K now.
 
same from reading, I'd have to scale windows to be able to use this monitor decently which would pretty much make it the same as a 1440p monitor. (Idk if that's true)

How much did u pay for the bl3200pt? I found it for $674.99 + tax with free shipping

I purchased it in July for $664 on Amazon. Some time around the beginning of October it briefly went on sale for $585 so I filed a price protection claim with Discover and they refunded me the $79 difference. Score! But since then, it seems to be hovering around the $649-679 range so I'm not sure if that was a price mistake or what.

I left the color settings alone and only adjusted gamma and brightness. I tried using the .ICC profile from TFT Central, but it didn't make much difference to my eyes.

It's around 138ppi. And yes it's smaller then a 27" 2560. You can run Windows @ 125% tough and it should be fine
 
I hope this display doesn't have the same anti glare coating as the Samsung Ud970/32d850t. Its so strong it really makes web browsing a chore and images have a bit of a shimmer that makes it harder focus.

Huh? The S32D850 uses the same panel as the BL3200PT which is praised for its light antiglare. Have you seen these models yourself? I've seen the BL3200PT and think its antiglare is great. Might not be so sensitive to it myself but it's definitely semi gloss which I like.

Using the same panel doesnt mean using the same anti glare coating. Anyway i figured the coating was the same on the 1440p and 4k versions. Its really bad on the 4k Samsung.

Have you seen the Dell U2711 or U3011 antiglares? How does it compare to that? Because alot of folks on here consider those two Dells to be one of the strongest AGs out in recent years.

Actually, it does. It's part of the panel. And it's a stretch to assume a 32" VA model with a panel manufactured by somebody other than Samsung has the same coating as a 31.5" Samsung PLS model.

Interesting to hear that you didn't like it on the 4K Samsung though. What were you comparing it to? I saw somebody mention it on Amazon, was that you?
 
LG's old grainy coating was the worst on the U2711 because of the higher pixel pitch. It is possible that Samsung's semi-glossy coating is not light enough for 4K, even though their 1440p monitors seem grain free.

BenQ's coating can also be classified as grain free when viewed head on, but it looks quite grainy/sparkly when viewed from above.

Nope i havent left any reviews on Amazon. Which monitor review are you referring, a s32 or ud970 review? Id like to see that review to see if agrees with my experience. I was comparing it to previous IPS displays I had, which is a LG 47UB8500, 47LG50, 32LG60, NEC 2690, LG 31MU97, Dell 2001FP, Apple Cinema Display 30", plus a bunch of others. i've never seen a AG coating as strong as on the Samsung UD970. The Dells you listed might be worse I dont know but in my limited experience it was the worst coating ive seen on an IPS display. I could see shimmering in web browsing and games, and even desktop backgrounds looked grainy. I went through 4 panels (since they all had dead pixels) but i couldnt shake off the fact the coating was bad as well and finally just returned it.

That sounds bad then. It was the U32D970Q. Mentioned the graininess that you noticed. It sounds annoying for 4K to have that issue.

Yeah i really want a IPS 4k display ready for dragon age inquisition. The LG 31mu97 is great no shimmer at all problem is 17:9 aspect ratio has even less support than 21:9. Games that support 21:9 properly right now cant do 17:9 w/o black bars, so if I keep this monitor it basically depends on developer support in the coming years. The only other ips 4k display coming out soon is th benq bl3201ph, my last hope. I hope it doesnt have heavy ag glare, otherwise its back to 1080p for me.
