Ok guys, I am on the verge of clicking the Checkout button on NewEgg but I have NOT made my decision yet as far as CPU is concerned.

I will be doing mostly GAMING. No 3D work or video editing... So, which CPU will serve me best:

Q9450 or E8400?

Are you going to overclock?

Not sure yet... Here is the system I plan on building though:

the e8400 is hard to beat in current gaming performance, with good OC potential too.

if cost isn't a concern with the q9450, i think it will last you longer - you won't need to upgrade for a long time.

Hmmm So if I go with the setup I plan on building and use the E8400 and overclock it, I should not have problems running most of the newer games at all?

I just build a new system that will be used mostly for gaming. After weighing the pros and cons I picked the Q9450. It just felt more future proof to me. Now that I have it here at home and set up I know I made the right decision. This thing is blazing fast. I can have Prime95 running and it still happily loads anything I throw at it. I've just been left in awe and would surly recommend it.

So ya, wait a little longer for a few more post but I say pull the trigger on the Q9450!

This is so gut-wrenching! hahahahaah I have my cart all setup at NewEgg and I just need to decide on the CPU. Man, decisions!

E8400 will not disappoint. If you want to save money get the E8400. If you don't really care what you spend get the Q9450.

You are going with vista 64 bit, so...a quad core would benefit even more.

Exactly what I was thinking... I think I will go with the Q9450... I do build a new computer every 3-4 years, so with that processor, I should be more than happy for what I do with my PC.

Whaaaa???

Is there a NewEgg in a parallel universe that has the Q9450 in stock?

They don't have it in stock, but they do have the E8400... If I go with the Q9450, then I will have to buy it from somewhere else.

It's hard to find Q9450 on stock at the most suppliers because of the shortage. Intel are working on it or you can go with X3350, this one available almost every where.

Quick question... Is MWAVE a reputable vendor?? They have some of the stuff that I need that Newegg doesn't have, and some other stuff that Newegg has at a cheaper price! But I need to know if they are trustworthy.

I personally get a disturbing amount of DOA equipment from Mwave. Also their shipping tends to kill the deal vs. Newegg. Other than that, yes, reputable.

you mean, 4 scenarios of prime95 right? Thats the only way you're going to load up 4 cores and test for errors.

Nope. The latest build of Prime95 (not the one on the main Prime95 site, granted) is quad core compatible.

Yep v25.6 is the lastest version I believe (I checked semi-recently) You need to go to their forums to find out info about these betas.
I believe it's supported quads since 25.4 or so though.

OP - go with the q9450. buy it here: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0286543
I got mine for $300 when they had the $50 coupon, but I don't see that anymore.
