Instead of slamming a helicopter into a mounted gun, killing the guy on it, jumping out and mowing down 4 other guys before making a dramatic getaway on a jetski you get... people sitting there all game pretending to be a navy seal.*~

Ahh, the memories... although some of us prefer a bit more realistic idea of the action, without going too far overboard. ;)

double post... 3 minutes later

LOL, I tired to mark the post as hidden for you, before remembering that this is one of the three boards I regularly visit that I'm not an admin/moderator at.. hehe...

Hardcore mode also eliminates all the 'running face first through my bullets and knifing me' crap that happens WAY too frequently. Seriously, the knife needs to be a selectable weapon ala BF2.

Good god I hate that crap.. I was firing my submachine gun at you at point blank range, you somehow ran through all that to miraculously knife me as I pumped lead into your center mass? Bullshit. GTFO.

I solely play Normal now. I wish more Hardcore servers would put HC in the title so I don't end up joining them accidentally :p. Hardcore for me is just boring and too easy (ironic, no?). One shot sniper kills allow me to take out an entire team by myself extremely quickly. Also, the game play is markedly different because everyone is just camping their sides and spraying bullets. After going ~25/0 on a few maps that always ended up with the Defenders winning I thought "well, that's enough of that." Now in Normal, I play all classes, have gotten almost every badge, and have a lot more fun (tank jacks, boat road kills XD, etc.).

Hardcore, untill they get the weapons balanced. I hate firing a whole clip into someone then they turn around and hit me with one overpowered weapon.

In HC it doesn't lead to death, it is the cause. In real life, unless you take a .50 cal to the ankle and bleed to death, it won't be the cause of it.

You'd still be lying on the ground or limping slowly and being a big target. It takes you out of the fight which is the same as death in a videogame. When people talk about different caliber weapons and stopping power - they mean stopping power - to stop the guy in his tracks. It's the same if he's out of the fight as if he's dead.

I didn't realize that soldiers are all wolverine and just shrug off a hail of bullets just to auto heal while running at you to stab you with his cla...knife.

Normal almost exclusively. I was all about Hardcore during the beta, but it has worn off. With the radar so paramount to my successes in 2142, I can't stand playing without it. Feels like I'm blind in one eye while gaming. Killing also becomes far too easy. Though my favorite servers are Normal servers without crosshairs and killcams. Those are the ones worth adding to my favorites list.

The main complaint I hear about normal mode is "it takes too many bullets to kill people"... no it doesn't... You're a.) missing or b.) not shooting them in the head.

I've mowed down numerous guys who tried to knife me from 5-10 feet away... I've been knifed when I miss them, or I've knifed guys like that... but that's just how it goes...

Play both, either mode is fine with me. Although 1 shot camping snipers in Hardcore can be tiresome.

Another question for you all, Rush or Conquest?

I much prefer Rush, faster, less running around in circles aimlessly (that's probably just me though!) just more intense especially 32 ppl servers.

I don't mind playing hardcore, but I kind of prefer normal mode because of a few reasons. First, I like the spotting system because I think it best reflects spotting someone with minimal hassle. In hardcore mode it's essentially useless. I also find playing a medic to be frustrating without the guided icons in hardcore mode, especially when you really can't tell whether the dead guy laying on the ground is on your team or not.

That said, I absolutely hate the kill-cam that's usually turned on in normal mode and am not too crazy about the self-healing mechanism either.

Agreed. The self healing time should be doubled or quadroupled to give medics more of a purpose to heal. If you don't get a pack down quick your mates will be healed regardless in less than a minute. Quite often that's the time it takes to run to the next object so you routinely see nearly dead people just run off from a pack without a worry. Snipers appreciate the packs though it seems. Those furry fuckers seem to lap 'em up. :p

Spotting should be in all modes IMHO. It really makes the game. It was one of the major changes BF2 brought it that everyone welcomed and now you don't wanna live without.

I just love spotting someone and watching half the team fire bullets at the orange marker, where-ever they are on the map, 'cos there's a good chance they'll get them. Spot reward points is a brilliant addition. A team that is alert and regularly spots will utterly own a rival team of otherwise equal, or even slightly better, skill. Spotting a sniper on a hill and seeing them get laced with fire from all around is *so* satisfying. :)

Big agree here. Especially when I'm in a tank or a Bradley. It's tough to see between the smoke, crap optics, and high contrast filters they put on. I also hate to waste my add-on slot with the "enhanced optics" when I could use extra armor or more powerful warheads. However, if people spot a guy in the field I can send a round into his lap. I can't say how many times people have thanked me for artillery fire (or gotten Savior Kills), and once a team catches on it works really well.

I prefer HC because the game doesn't revolve around firing at little orange triangles on my HUD. I also prefer flying choppers with zero HUD; that thing just gets in the way.

HC servers do, in some cases, unfortunately lend themselves toward a an unbearably slow Rainbow Six paced gameplay.

I prefer HC when I play recon or engineer.

I prefer normal when I play medic and assault.

The game is not "balanced", but it is more "imbalanced" on HC.

I do play both, but I play normal mode more often. I think normal is more fun, imo, and gives a more "balance" mode for everyone unlike HC. Just my opinion.

Hardcore would be my definite preference if all vehicles were also removed. That and keep spotting.*

Just played a few hardcore rounds earlier and it was just people sitting in far corners of the map in those Bradley tanks pounding building walls and killing everyone.

*Pro tip: You still get 'spot kill' points in hardcore if you spot someone and they're killed shortly thereafter. ;)

Why did you buy a BF game if you don't want vehicles?

Why did you buy a BF game if you don't want vehicles?

I used to hate vehicles in the original BF2. When I found some servers that were infantry only, I ended up sticking to it because I was able to rack up 50 or 60 kills a round as a combat medic.

With the reduction of classes to 4 for BC2 (and of course the overpowering CG), there are plenty of engineers to go around and so it's much easier to get repairs when you need. The tanks don't feel as overly powered like they did in BF2.

Side question, what button do you press to switch from the main seat of a vehicle to the alternate seat?

In hardcore mode I was talking about. In normal they have their place.

I've played a few HC rounds where people would sit in tank way away from objectives with a backup engineer and just pound away across the map. It just made the whole game shit doing that non stop all because they're too afraid to leave the comfort of their tank.

Hardcore all the way

really takes me out of the game when I spray someone with lead and they walk it off

Personally, I don't get the issue with shots in the foot leading to death.

In real life, if you are shot in the foot with an assault rifle, you are pretty much out of commission.

In real-life, M1A2's can hit and kill at ranges that dwarf the very size of the maps themselves in BC2. Load in a laser-guided AT round and that range goes up to over 6,000 meters. Ever hear about the British Challenger 2? One survived 7 direct-hits from RPG's, a MILAN AT missile, and hours of small arms fire before being recovered. Worst damage was to its sighting system, they repaired it(re-tracked it) and had it back fighting in 6 hours. Another survived SEVENTY hits from RPG's. (Edit: Not to mention the M1A2's guidance/targeting system that aims the main gun for you, all you do is designate a target with the crosshairs)

Sometimes more real is less fun.

I played normal at first, but I like hardcore better now, especially when playing with a group of people who actually know what they're doing (teamspeak + 2 squads coordinating = win)
