All the commander did anyway was mortar, set UAV, and drop a supply crate all of which can be done by infantry no problem. Look at BC2, motion mines, mortars, and tons of resupply boxes. The only fun part of commanding was dropping cars on snipers.

And spam the ever loving shit out of the spotting system. Half the servers i went into it was just a constant drone of "enemy spotted" over and over and over. Usually ended up inserting my knife up his ass to get him to stfu for a few moments.

Valve said 24 was the max number of players for TF2 servers to have fun and balanced gameplay, but they didn't limit your choice of having a 32-player server. Same should apply here.

Valve didn't have people that refuse to leave a vehicles respawn point to worry about, this game does. Going by past history it'll be the usual bum rush for jets and people losing the race are likely to start firing rockets at it, yet again.

The fun part of commanding was playing as a real team.I had the luck of playing in a team which worked under the commander and man it was an experience. It was like the real battlefield. The squad would call in for support to take out a lone sniper and the commander would direct a UAV in the direction and call in for a chopper support to clear the path for the squad members. The cobra flies in and gets the job done. The commander then directed a sniper from his team to occupy the same vantage spot who secures the way to the flag for the team.Everything was smooth bagging.

I still insist a good commander and a smart team elevate the experience to a new level.

lmao that is so annoying, was just on a BF2 server, and its all i heard for the 30 mins i was in the server.. Why cant there be a ignorerad command like CSS...

Please server admins, don't have annoying updates every second spamming the chat system. I don't care if someone died 7 times in a row.

Unfortunately you are one of the few to experience what the role was designed to be. When a team was working together under the Commander, you are absolutely right... the was nothing like it. However 90% of the time this did not happen and the Commander had to do their best to decipher what people were trying to do and provide support. Consequently it was only enjoyed by a small niche of players.

I'd love to see it come back, but like DICE I have no idea how to make it fun and accessible to more people. Their compromise of giving the power to the squads and making the Commander an AI role is regrettable, but probably the best route for the masses.

Maybe some day they'll release a patch or DLC that brings the option back as a special mode that can be filtered, much like Hardcore.

They actually did at one time and had to change it back after community rage.

Damn, I had really lost a ton of interest in this game lately, but that bf3blog post brought me right back in.

I don't really want to start any debate about it but I initially lost interest because it looked very much like BC3 instead of BF3. There seemed to be very little recoil on the guns, 3d spotting was still just as bad as it was in BC2, the footage of rush on metro didn't seem to have any of that old battlefield feel.

I could probably go on but in general it was just looking much more like a sequel to BC2 than a sequel to BF2. According to that BF3Blog post, I was wrong.

No, just no. Seems you didin't try the alpha.

From the Gamescom blog:

"Motion sensors are back, but cannot be thrown, and have to be deployed." - Yay! In BC2 I thought I was in Star Wars or something...

"Hardcore mode will return in Battlefield 3." - Shweet!

"Infantry-only setting will return as well." - It was a nice feature of BF2 and I'm glad they put it in for BF3.

"Vehicles will have regenerative health until being disabled." - Lame. I don't mind regen health for soldiers so much but for vehicles? Does that go for jets, too?

"Assault rifles with long, high-zoom scopes will have “glint” as well." - I think we already knew that but this feature worked well in Far Cry MP.

It's all shaping up to be veeeeery nice! :D

No, I didn't get in to alpha. If you believe I should have been, please contact EA and inform them of the error.

I also admitted I was apparently wrong, but if you can't see how I would come to that initial conclusion (many people were coming to that conclusion) then I guess there's not much left to say because I don't think everyone wants me to spell it out.

So you were surprised that a game mode that's only been in BC and never in BF felt like BC? You didn't think to wait until you at least see conquest in action? You know, that gamemode that would actually feel like a BF game?

Good news. Motion sensors in BF2142 were fine due to the futuristic setting.

I hope by regenerative they mean with an engineer tool :(

Kill-flash?? I hope to God, that not all high or variable scopes will produce a glint/shine. If so, hopefully we will have an unlockable killflash lol.

People aren't savvy enough to make the connection.

Except the people that played the game have constantly corrected those making false conclusions. For some reason, it took some website saying the same thing for you to believe anyone.

I agree. However, it is no deal breaker for me. It makes having the health bags and blown torch borderline pointless.

Sounds like the regen health for vehicles could do wonders for jets, I hate being shot up by a stupid tank HMG in the heli. Almost impossible to get away from, even across the map.

look forward to this. whats the best flight stick right now with bf3 support?

Same, all about mouse and keyboard. Used to own people in WW2 online with this setup too. :D

Flight stick is for noobs. I use to out fly plenty of people in 1942/desert combat with mouse and keyboard.

lol i will be looking for your jet in the sky come release time! ;)

my buddy has a saitek setup for bf2 and it was quite fun flying. hoping bf3 will be just as fun
