It matters because people do not want to quit a game just to change servers nor to alt-tab to check for alternative servers, especially given how alt-tabbing can often cause instabilities and crashes.

They went to the trouble of including it in the console versions, why the hell could they not do the same with the PC version and leave battlelog as an additional option.

I used Chrome only during alpha and apart from a "plugin" install the first time all worked smoothly.

Once again, if its seamless. That means all the little hiccups you are talking about do not exist.

Basically you are still in here whining and bitching like a little girl with sand in her vagina because you'd rather hit ESC instead of ALT + TAB.

Good job on that.

Looking forward to this - but until it's on my machine, playing like that and looking like those videos I have my doubts. Every game looks better in the overhyped pre-release stuff that is always shown. It seems like I'm always a little disappointed about how it looks by the time it gets to me. The alpha was a huge letdown. Hopefully the beta captures what we are seeing in these videos a bit more...

Oh you sheeple are funny. I bet if this was any other game people would be up in arms with pitchforks and torches, but I guess its okay to get out the old lube when it comes to BF3.

All I want in terms of looks is 120ish FPS at 1920x1080 low details. I couldn't get that in the Alpha with my system (mostly 60-80ish).

But there was not many graphical options then. Hopefully the beta has some.

Did you play the Alpha?

Because no one who played the Alpha complains this much about Battlelog, in fact every other forum I go to there's tons of praise for it.

looooooool.

the last time i saw alt-tab cause instability or crashing was on <insert every valve game here>.

Dice has its handle on alt-tabbing pretty nicely if BFBC2 is any example.

For comparisons sake for those of you that didn't get in on the alpha, by the time you load bc2 and join a server you would have had 2-3 minutes playtime already in bf3. Also, the time it took to leave the game and join another server in bf3 was way less than what it takes in bc2.

After the experience in alpha, bitching about battlelog is, once again, grasping for straws. You can love it or hate it but you can't deny the fact that it works and is quicker then previous ingame browsers inthe bf franchise.

3D Spotting Officially Tweaked via OCN

Demise99: (Demize99 = Alan Kertz = BF3 Senior Gameplay Designer)

So, a soldier in direct Line of Sight that is spotted will have a 3d red marker. If he moves behind cover or concealment, including vegetation, the 3d red marker will disappear. He will always be on the minimap. Vehicles are always fully 3D spotted, and LOS does not apply since they are larger more important targets with less threats (and it plain did not work to have jets flying around who couldn't see the tank you spotted for him to take out).

This lets you essentially "nudge" your buddy to tell him about a target, or point out a sniper on a hill you see but cannot engage (with your shotgun for example). But it prevents players from using 3D spotting as a wall hack.

Additionally, the primary motivator for the change is that 3D spots that you cannot see are not threats. We noticed that players would focus on 3D spots over everything else, meaning they would ignore people in line of sight. It's far less confusing when the 3D spot on a soldier can only be seen if you can see the soldier.

Good Day.

Battlelog will be infinitely better than the crap that bad company 2 tried to shove down our throats, but you know what would be even better than that? If they just took that and made it all in game, with the option of accessing it through a web browser if that was your cup of tea.

Its obvious they have some ulterior motives here with battlelog (DRM, patching, etc).

Then you'll be happy? But they seemed to be against that from the beginning.

Hey it's free compared to what Activision is doing.
I'm sure it will be a central hub for all things BF3. That rubs Valve the wrong way, DLC wise.
DRM? Not sure about that yet, only assumptions.

If you actually timed it from start to finish you would know that this is not true at all.

Yeah it will be a central hub for all things BF3, I bet you can even buy the expansions through it. But for those of us who dont care about stats or anything else it has to offer... its pointless. The only feature I will enjoy the hell out of is the group queue (assuming it works like it sounds).

How I would like to play BF3:
1. Doubleclick .exe shortcut on desktop, breeze to main menu with all intro movies disabled (via .ini tweak or deletion)
2. Click server browser button that preloads to the last place I had it (favorites) and double click server to join. If server is full place me in the queue.

How I see it playing out:
1. Start and connect to origin
2. Start and connect to battlelog.
3. Click server browser / favorites, then click server.
4. Start BF3, watch intro movies because they locked down the files hard and you cant skip them.

Sure on a SSD the whole process will be fast and better than bad company 2 by miles, but I like to keep it simple and not jump through extra hoops that arnt necessary for the gaming experience. If I want to view my stats I'll go to their website.

1. There's not one game on origin that requires that now. To activate the game is one thing, to play the game is another.
2. Of course
3. You can actually go straight to this screen from the .exe on the desktop. This wouldn't be possible if Origin was required to play the game.
4. Proof?

Right now people have to log into a separate website to see their stats. Now they can get everything in one place.
Much more convenient. Basically, EA took a fragmented game and made it all-inclusive.

Starting BC2 it isn't the game loading that slows you down; it is logging in to EA's servers and loading stats, etc. In the alpha it may have been fast because barely anyone was on it, but let's see how it works once live.

Im gonna bet that origin wont be able to handle the load once the game goes live and since its so new like steam was when hl2 was released i remember all the lockups i got and everyone else since steam is required so if u loose connection u will get problems.

Good Point Sir.

I look at Battlelog as an improvement. Everything in one place for a game.
Also I think Steam would only get in the way of it really.

Launch Steam, Log into Steam, Launch Battlelog, Log into Battlelog, Play Game.

vs

Launch Battlelog, Log into Battlelog, Play Game.

So when you start the BF3.exe it starts up battle log right?

.
Yes.I would be very happy if they included it.I have to say that the argument they are putting forward is absolutely BS.I still hope they might allow a mod in the future to allow that.Honestly I feel its the most important part of the gameplay experience.

Does the server browser use IE or can it use firefox etc?

lol I'd be in a world of hurt if it were only IE since I removed IE from my Win7 install. Chrome worked fine for me in the alpha.

The web based battlelog browser seemed to be about on par with the in game BF2 browser in speed of updating the server list (or sometimes not) and accuracy of stats (server full, server full, oh hey this one isn't full--though they all supposedly had free slots), though I found the ping times to be WAY off (always reported as much higher than they were in game). Personally, I'd rather the server browser be in game and a step up in terms of reporting accuracy, but I managed just fine for many years with the crappy BF2 browser and I'd rather gripe about things affecting gameplay rather than the (inconsequential) method by which I connect to the whopping 2-3 servers I'll end up playing on.

Now, how about a damn beta?!

Correct me if I'm wrong. But haven't they said Origin is required to play BF3? So that would require

-launching Origin, logging in (or having it auto login like I have it do already, same with steam)
-then launching BF3 which launches the Battlelog website (in alpha there was no way to save credentials for auto login)
-logging into the website
-play game

So there's no difference in the way it would actually run via Steam. That was never even the problem.

I don't recall logging into the website after launching it from Origin in the alpha, though maybe I just had the login saved in a cookie and my shoddy memory doesn't recall logging in the very first time.

I had to login to the website each time, as if the web browser not to keep the cookie for security reasons.

Remember when you just had to input your CD key when you bought a game and that was it? I get that people want stats and all kinds of pazazz tied to fancy accounts with all the bells and whistles- sure would be nice if you could just opt out of all that jazz should you choose to.
