Battlefield 3 - Official Thread

Keep in mind this would likely be toggle-able... most servers would not have it, but it'd be neat every once in a while.

Honestly i wouldn't be surprised if they have a few deathmatch maps with the way games are going now, and they would sadly be the most played.

I hate the kill-cam. My playstyle frequently involves getting behind enemy lines and causing havoc while trying not to be noticed. Kill-cam gives away my position. It's for this same reason that I don't like spotting. If I get noticed sneaking around the back and someone manages to spot me, I basically can't hide for the next ten seconds or so, and I don't know if I've been spotted, so it's a total crap-shoot.

Kill cam wasn't introduced into any Battlefield game until Bad Company 2 as far as I can remember. Half the fun of being sniped without a kill cam is trying to hunt down the offender. If you play the game long enough you start to figure out all the tricks and hiding spots in maps and you can eventually triangulate where a prone/camping sniper is and go in for the knife. Always gets my heart racing when you're sneaking around a sniper's nest mano-a-mano. Sufficed to say I can do without the kill cam, but have gotten so used to it because of BC2.

If you didn't see the guy who killed you, YOU SHOULDN'T SEE HIM. YOU'RE DEAD. Go play MW2 or BO.

Screw that it's a game not a sim. Let me guess you love hiding in corners and sniping. If you played wow you would have been the rogue right? You are the absolute worst type of gamer next to hackers.

I fucking hate snipers and I agree with him. Thank you for trying to stereotype someone so you can dismiss their ideas as invalid. Very helpful in an open discussion.

At this point I honestly don't care.

I love BF2
I love BC2

If BF3 is BC2.5, I'll still play it.
If BF3 is BF2.5, I'll still play it.

No matter how much I complain, bitch, moan, and discuss there is a 98% chance I am still going to buy it, play it and enjoy it.

This is basically how I feel too. I loved both games so even if BF3 is some amalgamation of both I'll still love it more than likely.

If you're a server admin and need a killcam, then you should not be allowed to admin anymore. PB games allow you to spectate a player with PB commands, and they do not know they're being spectated. Also, if you cannot figure out what PBSS are, again, you should not be admining anymore.

I mean no offense, but admins need to know how to use PB to properly admin a server; this means uploading PBSS to global banlists and running global GUID banlists.

No. I'm all for fair play. That means if you found a good spot to go to for sniping someone, it should not be revealed to the guy too slow to notice you via a killcam. They should have to work to find you. And if that means dying 10 more times trying to find you....then that's their problem.

Killcams ruin a game like BF. BF isn't run and gun. At least, it isn't SUPPOSED to be. That's COD, UT and whatnot. This is NOT COD or UT. Or Quake.

And what if I'm not a server admin captain obvious? I'm not the type who calls for random kick votes, kill came helps the server self moderate. Not to mention, admin's don't see everything especially if they're busy playing.

Like I said, I like kill cams and i'll be playing BF3

I dont like killcams and will be playing BF3
:D

IMO they ruin multiplayer because if someone kills you and you dont know where they are, you shouldnt get rewarded for being killed by getting their last location (typically they are still there) then you run up and knife them or w/e. Its lame and becomes tit-for-tat. Realistic clues like "glimmers off scopes" and sightings on the mini-map (from players hitting "Q") is all that should be needed to keep the game balanced. Anything more and feel free to hop on your 360 and load up COD. Just my opinion, its not written in scripture.

Players also shouldn't be rewarded for camping, which is why I like killcams.

Take a look at MOH that has no killcam...it's camp city.

Camping is a word used too lightly. Camping to me definitely depends on intent. If your sharpshooting and you found a amazing perch to pick people off, you shouldnt be looked down on for not leaving that amazing nest.
However if your running to "your spot" that you hide in and pick people off all round, THAT is camping to me.

Killcams to get rid of campers is over kill like lethal injection for all crimes, yes it deters crime and gives the right punishment to killers, but your killing the other 98% of people that got arrested for crimes that deserve small jail time or a slap on the hand. OVERKILL.

The things added that i already mentioned (glimmer of scopes, etc) should help naturally balance the campers. If your not good enough to see the glimmer or scan for snipers before you run into the street all the time, feel free to go get on your 360 and play COD. Build your skill, be careful and scan windows and you wont get "camped" on.

All it does is promote suicide runs... This shit pisses me off.

"Ok guys, there's a sniper/lmg/whatever out there and we can't find him. I'll run out and he will kill me, then I will tell you guys where he's hiding!"

Buddy of mine bought the MOH and registered it a few months back...He just got confirmation today that he has a reserved spot for the BF3 beta in September.

OMFG. Why the fuck haven't I received my e-mail yet? I bought that POS MOH limited edition game on steam. Grrrrr. I am going to be so pissed if they never send me an e-mail.

I have had the game registered to my ea.com account since it came out. I've been a member of ea.com since 2005... I've got all my other battlefield games registered on there. WTF else do I have to do?

Iv never seen a suicide run in all my days of FPS gaming, but it kinda makes sense. In real war soldiers are told to draw fire, whether that means a dash to different cover or exposing themselves for a second or 2.

Dont worry TOO much Capt, its just a email saying we remember that your in line cause you bought MOH, its not like its the email with your code in it or anything. Id be mildly concerned, not "OMFG WTF" level pissed.

9:40 to 10:00. Those are the kind of people I imagine are the ones who hate 3D spotting. Getting shot at for a good 20 seconds and still can't properly find cover.

I hope they add a short cinematic after each match, I enjoyed them in BC2 and previous Battlefield games. Nice find.

I think it's more that we feel we shouldn't have to avoid being blindly spammed. Clearly you want to use cover effectively regardless of 3d spotting. The idea of markers being put over people's heads that can be seen through barriers just sounds and feels wrong.

THATS what 3D spotting is? Gross, NO THANK YOU. Hope its either not in the game or removed or not in hardcore mode. I like mini map spotting cause in real life, a soldier might get a real "enemy spotted here ___x___" and he knows just where to look, or with their video eye goggle thing they can see UAV maps marked with colors as to where the enemy is..but 3D spotting threw walls is Tom Clancy Ghost Recon stuff not my realistic BF3.

What the fuck are you talking about!? Where do I "get" what "shit"?

Your response doesn't even make any fucking sense.

They're not allowing private servers, so I'm asking a legitimate question regarding what the deal will be with running servers, like any adult with half a fucking brain would ask. What's your fucking issue, man!?

they are not putting the server files out publicly, you have to rent one. if you are running a ranked server, nothing has changed from how it worked in bf2. you can do whatever you want to the server when you own it.

i don't get how people find this stuff, somehow distort it and proceed to get nervous about dice ruining everything.

ALL the platforms are getting dedicated servers for that matter, even the consoles.

also: gathered from others in the alpha since i'm a plebeian not worthy of being invited

- sloppy feeling movement from old games, gone, completely overhauled
- killcam is gone... only shows their equipment
- battlerecorder is coming back
- all classes get suppression bonus for... doing the obvious
- you can indeed get smacked in the face with falling building chunks and killed
- more destruction will be enabled, it's toned down for alpha
- performance is looking good in it's still unoptimized state
- if you shine a flashlight or laser sight (!!) into someones face, it has a blinding kind of effect. you can apparently blind snipers by shining lasers into their eyes which is hilarious and awesome.

Well, I definitely wouldn't consider myself well versed in this terminology but those sound like dedicated private servers. I wouldn't call him wrong in calling them private, though it is worth noting that BF2 had the same system (from what you say). Originally his question was whether you will be able to reserve slots. That is up to DICE to implement, and I'm not sure if we know whether or not they have. Might be worth answering if you know.

Then go play MW2. BF is a strategic game, more than anything. It isn't about closed spaces. It's about a mixture, and snipers camping, MGers camping laying down covering fire and such MAKES SENSE.

Better, why don't you go to Iraq or Afghanistan and when you hear about a sniper killing 15 people from one location, be it US or insurgent, yell "YOU'RE CAMPING IT ISN'T FAIR." It's WAR. And I want to play a game in which a WAR happens.

If you're not an admin, not your problem then. Good admins should be looking at PBS and running MD5 and CVAR checks and global GUID banlists. If they aren't, they're a bad admin, the server is in a poor state and you should find a new server. "To catch cheaters" is about the worst justification I have EVER SEEN for this feature.

All it does is promote suicide runs... This shit pisses me off.

"Ok guys, there's a sniper/lmg/whatever out there and we can't find him. I'll run out and he will kill me, then I will tell you guys where he's hiding!"

Exactly. Happened so often in MW1 when I played. Oh, hey...sniper in the house.Let's get em. On the way...5 people die. Weeeee.

since when has a private server EVER been anything else than a passworded server? it's by far, the most common use of the terminology.

i'd find it hard to believe that reserve slots won't be in, considering the functionality was in every single game they've released on the PC.

"Hurrrr go back to your 360 and play COD!"

Well done.

I didn't mention snipers at all...so again, well done. Glimmering snipers are all fine and good but what about assault rifle campers and LMG campers?

I'm not going to be particularly upset if BF3 doesn't have a killcam since the maps are bigger than that MOH garbage that truly did suffer from no killcam, but I'm not going to join the parade of "killcams are evil, theys punishes us for being tacticool!" people who are screaming and bitching about every tiny little thing from these videos.

Could not agree more.

Pissing and moaning about 3D spotting, whining about killcams, justifying camping and comparing the videogame tactics of shit players to life preservation of soldiers in a real battlefield? That does reveal a fair bit about what kind of player you probably are.

BF is not and never was a war simulator. If you want that, play Arma.

Your are only going to get screwed over by a revenge kill from a killcam if you are in the same spot some 30-45 seconds after the kill. You don't respawn automatically and you don't respawn where you died so if the guy you killed gets you based solely on your killcam it's because you haven't moved.

always the noobs who cant play that whine.
I use CG and usaf12 alot, obviously some think I ruin gameplay for them, but they simply cant play the game.
dice choose to implement the game with the weapons, armor and planes, they are free to use any way you like.

fav kit is usaf with light and armor and c4, just blows tanks and kills people on the move kit.

Apparently lots of invites have gone to users that aren't even PC users and who don't even have PC's with minimum specs capable of starting BF3 let alone running it

What a waste.

Yup, someone on another forum that I frequent got one and he didn't even have a computer that could run it.

Just goes to show how much DICE really cares about its [real] fans...

I guess I'm weird, I'm completely psyched for BF3 to be released but I have no interest in the beta. I'd rather wait until it's ready before I jump in with both feet.
