I was surprised I even got an invite. I have most of the BF games, but only a few registered on the veteran site.

My dual core is pathetic and the game doesn't run very well... Time to upgrade to a quad and take apart the water cooling :/

yeah, I realized that after I posted it. :(

I'll probably just pre-order and hopefully I can get in the beta.

Everything is fucking great except for the spotting.

Holy fuck is it broken beyond belief. The thread about it in the feedback forums completely dwarfs anything else, it's the biggest thread on the entire site.

Being that my CPU held me back with BC2 and BF3 seems to be loading across all 4 of my cpu now...im definately upgrading to an x6 or x8 if the release code has similar performance...nice to see games utilizing the horsepower.

Also, someone asked about memory requirements, I am running on high settings at 1920x1200 and its sucking up about 2 GB of ram all by itself.

i cant stand rush either i like mah conquest

not a huge fan of the map either atleast not until it gets into the tunnels then its fun.

Agreed.

So far I experienced two crashes and can tell its destroying my computer. Heard the heatsink fan spin up all the way and even BC2 didnt heat up the processor where the heatsink fan sounds like its taking off.

Besides the graphics, so far I am impressed. The computer I am using is in my sig.

The sniper class has been turned into an almost useless camping class. You are forced to sit in one spot now. Sad. I always play recon and will still play it, but with everyone complaining about camping snipers...its only gonna be worse lol.

the assault class is very powerful, you put a scope on it and you pretty much have a sniper class what can heal itself ! haha

thats not true, you dont even need to use your sight on the sniper rifles and they are super accurate when run and gunning. aslong as you arnt using a bolt action sv98

What's wrong with the spotting? Is it worse than in BFBC2 or is it just because it is there?

the radius is absolutely enormous and it seems to completely ignore trees, smoke, and anything resembling foliage. there doesn't seem to be a cooldown on you spamming it like a maniac either.

aka it's completely broken and annoying as fuck.

edit: before anyone goes retarded and says I TOLD YOU SO, the devs have already said the spotting is WIP. alpha seems to be an old build atm that a lot of changes haven't made it in to.

lol thats what im using, the sv98.

I still have my game preordered and cant wait.

I hear a lot of talk about this game missing so many "features" yet these people fail to disclose said missing features. So far from my experience this game is definitely beta-level ready. Despite what they say, it's only a few months from release - there is no way a developer would have a truly alpha-level product that soon before going gold.

This is disappointing because, at least from the map Metro, this game is nothing but a paltry BF:BC3. If you didn't like the gimped vehicles and outright retarded gameplay of BC2, you wont notice much difference from BF3. The one vehicle available in the map is easy as hell to kill and basically sucks just as much as the vehicles did in BC2, if not a little worse. The 3D spotting thing is quite ridiculous.

It feels nothing like a Battlefield game. Going from BF1942 to Vietnam to BF2 and BF2142, they all immediately "felt" like BF games. This game, like BC2, does not. It plays more COD-ish with a heavy emphasis on appealing to the infantry crowd in the form of easy-to-kill, gimped vehicles.

The game's saving graces will be Conquest mode and the 64 player maps, but I have had my hopes completely dashed with BF3.

It's an alpha build, with 1 map and 1 game mode and a whole LOT of stuff missing. I don't know, aside from the game mode being rush instead of conquest, I don't feel this to be "BFBC3" at all.

A whole lot of stuff? Aside from maps and vehicles what is all this other stuff? The fundamental gameplay is not going to be changed and the direction the game has gone is easy to see. Many people share my views, but those that enjoyed BC2 will enjoy BF3. They are extremely similar games. DICE is just responding to the current demographics of the FPS market. The games have to have that COD-style appeal, so it's always been about the infantry.

I don't know, we haven't seen the vehicle maps, we haven't seen the final damage tweaks, control tweaks and all those things. I enjoyed BF1942 and BF2 immensely and was also a bit disappointed with Bad Company 2. But like I said, this to me doesn't feel like it at all aside from the game mode they chose and some features carried over. It's a bit unfair to dismiss it as "just BFBC3" when we haven't even seen the whole picture.

Not to mention you're playing a small map on Rush mode, which was designed to appeal to the CoD demographic. Probably need to play Conquest on a 64-player server before people start throwing around conclusions about the game.

Vehicles have gotten progressively weaker, in terms of game impact, since BF2 (and peaked here from what I remember). So I would not be surprised if they have less impact in BF3 compared to BF2.

If you really think about it, the biggest complaints in BF2 were around the dominance of vehicles, to the point where an infantry only mode was added. The most popular maps tended to be city maps, where vehicles had comparatively the least impact and availability. The biggest controversy will probably be how they handle jets I figure.

Well if the choppers and jets have some retarded low altitude ceiling and handle like shit and are intentionally gimped I will also call it bc3.

To be honest, I hope more than anything that the Metro map is just a lasso to rope in the COD crowd. But why would they put this map in as the choice for the alpha map? It's supposed to be BF3, you'd think the one map they'd put in would be an actual Battlefield 3 style map. To me, it seems like this is the kind of gameplay that DICE wants to push, not what I am hoping for.

Vehicle combat in BC2 was just a horrible joke. I don't know if you played Battlefield 1943 on consoles, but that game is even worse - there is no splash damage to speak of and even an M4 Sherman can be killed by rifle-grenades. Both are Frostbite 1.0 games.

The majority of the people that play these games are the mindless COD retards that think a proper vehicle is OP. Pretty much every vehicle in BC2 felt useless. On some maps, flying a helicopter out of main results in a death 10 seconds later. I once sat there and watched the helicopter spawn in the main. Players would pick it up and die with it literally in seconds. The average lifespan was under 30 seconds. In fact, the only way to not die with a helicopter is to play extremely conservatively, usually in not leaving the main base's airspace.

Tank on tank is equally stupid. Apparently accurate representations of tank-combat in BC2 would have made the infantry-lover piss and moan, so instead we got what are effectively moving targets to be subject to the myriad of weapons available to infantry. The splash damage was heavily reduced. The projectiles they fire have huge arcs and almost no range, tank on tank combat looks ridiculous. One could argue the fire arc on tanks has been there since BF1942, but it was compensated with reasonable splash damage. Popular mods like Desert Combat, Forgotten Hope, and Project Reality gave tanks realistic attributes and did not prove to be overpowered at all. In BC2, a guy with a recon kit could call down a pin-point mortar strike on your tank anywhere on the map, and under mortar fire your tank is slowed and will most likely die.

The list goes on. I'm telling you all this because I am an absolutely huge Battlefield fan. Bad Company killed it for me, and what I'm getting from the BF3 beta is more of the same. Yes it's hard to overcome the denial. It's more convenient and appealing to pretend everything is going to be gravy. But what this game is most likely going to be is an infantry-centric POS crafted specifically for the mouth-breathing COD demographic who absolutely despise vehicles.

I truly hope that conquest mode and proper Battlefield style maps will end up saving the day. However, first impressions are bleak.

its prob one of the maps they could rush out pretty fast, doesnt require them to have all the vehicles ect balanced, the alpha looks to be there to help them get stat tracking and load tests not so much the gameplay aspects other than how the different classes kinda of interact, where as beta can begin the focus of making sure certain vehicles and larger scale stuff will be tested with alot of people ect not to mention most betas are glroified demos these days which is where you will see larger maps ect.

The vehicle in the alpha is a fucking terror if the person driving it isn't retarded. It's fast as fuck and extremely deadly, even more so with a good gunner on top. You will very likely not come out of an encounter with it alive unless you fucking run / hide or have backup with you.

It's much scarier than BC2 vehicles, especially since it's FAST. So, I think it's a sign of good things to come.

Also I realized a lot of shit in the actual metro is destroyable. There's a bunch of side rooms and shit to run through but you can blast clean through the walls in a lot of places. Cool stuff.

People complain about the infantry combat but honestly it's the best it's ever been in the series. Shooting doesn't feel clunky as fuck and it's really nice overall. There needs to be some tweaks and they are seemingly in the pipeline. UHGHUGHU COD yes I get it but the infantry combat not being fucking awkward as fuck is great for once. It doesn't devalue the vehicles.

I see, and agree with many of your points, and can tell you have a great passion for old school/BF2.

But most of what you are hitting on we have no way of knowing yet as this is an early alpha build. Im almost positive the alpha is strictly for server testing purposes, and is not out for everyone to be 'ooed' and 'awed' by.

Then again, we have no way of knowing yet either way. we havnt seen any real footage of jets or helicopters or even a good representaion of ground/sea vehicles yet. I remain hopeful and have a strong feeling that they will be great. The term battlefield and the origin of the game were and have been vehicle centric, except for bad company, but those are a different type of game alltogether. While i liked bc2, I did not ever see it as a battlefield type game, and never had an expectation of it to be.

So, short story long, many of us share in your hopes and worries, and I just cant help but feel hopeful that this game will be great. I am very happy with the ground soldier strength so far, bring on the vehicles DICE.

p.s. The vehicle in the alpha is amazing, going by this alone I can tell vehicles are back baby.

edit: I guess what I was trying to say is the alpha really isnt out there for our enjoyment persay, its to test servers/origin, and I would be careful to base our opinions on as of yet, I just havnt seen enough to know either way.

I agree and I keep reminding myself that. I'm hoping that when and if they release a demo it will be a large scale conq map kind of like Gulf of Oman was for BF2. Which was great because it had a taste of everything.

hello haters saying the game won't be changing, guess what dropped? ALPHA PATCH SUP

with plenty of weapon changes!

Agree. The LAV can rape. Problem is that people think they're a juggernaut in it and drive it straight into the middle of an RPG field.

haha, the first thing I learned when I hopped in the LAV, dont just hold on the gas, that thing flies!

I dont think they added the run over kill yet, because i hit someone and he was just traveling at high speeds with me, haha.

This game can have some of the best firefights of any game I've ever played.

Just managed to prone under a gigantic wall of fire with some teammates. Enemies with LMGs spraying over us, tile shattering, glass falling. Proning under incoming fire played out so well it felt like a fucking movie. I decided to make a dash for a nearby room and be the hero, which I somehow managed, and subsequently killed a small bunch of people letting my teammates that they were suppressing push up the hall and arm the MCOM with me.

It was such a fucking cinematic moment, it was unreal.

Nice, nice... I can't wait to get my hands on this game :D. Sounds like you had one of those moments that really, truly is what gaming is all about.
