Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

The hacks were out in full force again last night. Managed to catch one in the act.

he kills 3 or 4 people from there, including me.

The game was just recently on sale for $10 right? Probably a good sign. Those sales bring out the noobs and cheaters.

The cheating is more prevelant than anyone really realizes. Look at the guy on kill cam in the video. Look how his gun twitches. Thats your tell tale right there. I see this so often in game. You all know it.... You've all been shot by that engineer weapon with 4 straight dead accuracy bullets as you're running perpendicular 150m away, only to watch the guys gun on kill cam snap to various things randomly.

Just pay attention to kill cam a little more often, youll see it.

Hip firing from the carrier to train? Naw, that's just raw talent yo!

Reported.

What do you record with btw?

Fraps, I could never get dxtory to work correctly.

I didnt encode that one correctly though as I was hurrying to get it up to youtube to post on their forums. My other videos show the quality fraps records in.

killcam is inherently twitchy, you can't go off that. It's not showing you how it really looks, You need a real demo system like battlerecorder from 2142, or the demo record system from COD.

True. It only really helps to show you where the asshat was and when someone is doing what that guy did....

I am certain the new update will fix all the issues and make us pancakes.

Wow those assignments will keep me busy for a while. By the time I'm done BF4 will be here...lol

50 wins in Air Superiority? Maybe I can just hide on the ground somewhere... LOL

I absolutely STINK at flying jets.

Balderdash. For the most part I can tell the difference between a good killcam and a hacker killcam. This isnt rocket science.

Kill cam is also only one piece of the equation in determining if someone is cheating.

I don't use anything that makes the game easier.
Shotguns, flashlights, red dots, smoke, bow, silencer, rpg, MASS etc.

I roll with a foregrip and heavy barrel only.
All that other stuff is just a crutch, slows you down, or gives away your location. Don't need it.

Don't know about all that...silencer is great for not giving away your location and giving you an extra millisecond before people clue in to whats happening. Sometimes if you're on the flank and there is action in the front, they never do. And smoke is a must on rush, unless the other team sucks you're likely not getting the MCOM capped w/o it.

Can't wait to c-4 jihad my motocross dirt bike into people's tanks! :/

New maps do look great and varied though.

I love jihad jeeps and ATVs currently and look forward to jihad bikes...not because I like to use them but because they pop up as bright red beacons from up in the jet and a well placed rocket sets it all off :D

I foresee some Air Superiority matches devolving into a simple ram and bail-fest...or a bunch of jets going for a single kill and crashing into eachother. It already happens now when its 2v1...imagine how much more frequently that will occur when you increase the number of participants...

Smoke is a must in conquest as well. Its the most under utilized tool in the game.

is not as important as health though. Shame they make you choose, all classes should be able to choose between HE grenades or smoke.

I find myself not missing the med pack. Unless you're playing on HC its just a luxury. I've played the other classes enough to not miss it.

I always play HC, and definitely miss the medpack. It's a pretty steep tradeoff, particularly since you can only spawn on the SL; you can lose ground really quickly that way.

Silencer reduces power and range, so when engaging in a mid-range 1v1/2 or further, you'll lose unless you got an early jump on them.
The silence trade-off for less power and range is too great for my play style. As for the smoke, I play a lot of Conquest Domination so I don't need it. But during other game modes I can see smoke being very effective.

Lat night I saw the animation of the IFV airdrop and I have to say that was pretty cool.

Question: In order to capture the flag do you just drive over it and you automatically control it? or do you have to grab it like picking up a weapon on the ground?

BF3 is the only game I have consistently played this generation. If you include BF BC2, I have been playing BF at least once a month since 2010. I am sure I would still be playing BC2 if BF3 never came out.

Dice really knows how to make a game where you never get bored playing it. There have been too many shooters and MP games this generation where you get sick of them after two weeks.

Halo 2 was able to do that last generation on my Xbox. It was the only Halo game that ever achieved that level of continuous fun.

I really hope BF4 doesn't ruin that feeling.

Agreed with everything you said sir.
H2, BC2 and BF3 are my most played shooters to date.
Wasn't PC gaming when CS, BF2, and 1942 were released.

I played BF1942 and BF2. The amount of hours I put into those games is mind numbing. I never got into BF2142. Never cared for the futuristic setting.

ahh....those were the real golden years in my book, Half-life was the first game that ever truly enveloped me into a world and there hasn't been another game since that could do that. Counter-Strike was awesome...the beta phases were great....good old time...and then Battlefield 1942 and the Desert Combat mod...so awesome for that time...just awesome....so many hours of my life devoted to little single serving digital people. Some may have lasted mere seconds, but I love them all.

As much as I've played CS, CS:S, BF2, BC2 and BF3, I miss the days of pure "skill" FPS games like Quake, Q2, UT, UT99, UT2k4, etc. CS was closer to the Quake genre prior to beta 7, at which point everything was severely slowed down.

No matter how good you are at the mil shooters, there is only so high the ceiling can go. All that being said, I've not found any arena style shooter that's been any fun since then so...who knows what I really want.

I still play Quake Live from time to time.
A shooter like that these days would be overlooked by the big publishers.

The next call of duty?

Agreed, Beta 5.2....or maybe it was 5.6....was the pinnacle of Counterstrike...after that it was all downhill imo. It would be nice to get a new UT or Quake style game, mindless twitch shooters are still fun...but I think they'd still screw it up by integrating some modern game "feature" like skill leveling.

Winning has been substituted for the self-gratification of leveling up.
I can play ten Q3A rounds in a row and not win, and I wouldn't log out until I did win a round. Halo did a good job of balancing wining and leveling up. Lose two rounds in a row, you level down.
With modern shooters like BF3, all you need is a few more points and unlocks messing around without helping your team, and you're still rewarded.

Winning > High Levels and Unlocks

For real... I was pulling it at around 2.4 mb/s, nearly double what I get in downloads from steam

I agree, im not sure if my ISP shuts off speed filtering at night or what but my 30Mb capped connection was downloading SimCity last night at 6.8MB...was insanely fast. I never break 3-3.2MB with Steam...which is still a pretty good clip but its not 6.8MB...fastest 12GB ever.

I know I also DL'ed the End Game expansion today, not sure how large it was but it didn't take more then a couple minutes...pretty sure it was supposed to be a few gig file. Im still firmly set in the older days of waiting hours to download a few hundred megs. Downloading gigabytes of data in tens of minutes still amazes me.

Endgame might be up now. I see servers with the maps up but I can't access yet. Says I need to DL the game? I DL a shitload yesterday. It won't let me DL the End Game either. I probably preloaded it already but yeah. Servers are up. Not populated though.
