Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Sorry to say guys but DICE has egg on their face with this beta. Too many bugs and glitches added to an inferior UI, map and game mode makes this a not so enjoyable experience.

Well, that may or may not be, but things like extra capacity magazines do change the balance. Granted, those unlock early, but you see what I mean.

I hear ya man... The guns I listed are top 4 for kill counts and the most used weapons in the game by a significant margin. The XM8 is # 17 out of 36. The M1911 pistol is a monster, it's 11th and it's a PISTOL!

It's interesting how much different the numbers are for Console vs PC. The medic weapons do WAY better on PC.

It's really starting to annoy me that headshots don't do enough damage. I could be 5 ft from a guy with the SKS popping his face and it takes 5-7 shots for him to go down. WTF is that???
 
The guns probably do too much damage if anything.

I've mowed down 3, 4, or 5 guys with the same clip. Being aggressive and switching to pistol when necessary is key.
 
I shot a full auto UMP-45 in a shooting range a few times and it was no where near as accurate as it is in this game. I really hope some realism mods come out for BF3.

I tried to shoot someone long range on Caspian with the UMP... it did not go well.
 
Both of the starting sniper rifles are totally overpowered. Get 12x scope and laser site. They are epic at all ranges and one or two shots to kill no matter what. I'm sniping guys in the arm with an automatic rifle and they die. Even if you die just drop a spawn point behind a tree 100 meters behind where you were hiding and kill the guy that killed you. I'm averaging scores like 23 and 2 now with this tactic. Even in the subway area I can run around and no-scope like a counter-strike awper.

I feel so gay.

Note: I am still planting the C4 very frequently while playing sniper. The pistols in this game (442) are VERY good weapons.
 
Yeeesh, I might have to hang it up. Just turned 40 and I just can't seem to keep up with the BF3 folk. I got my arse whooped. I noticed alot of players in there are 30 plus rank already? Jesus! So what happens when the official game comes out? Does it get carried over? I'm exhausted, going to bed.

People have gotten their Steam accounts banned for cheating/hacking. It's an Open Beta, so there are many people with zero games that have no investment in Origin and cheating is an option for them.

VAC ban basically bans a player from joining any VAC enabled servers which applies to all games that uses VAC protection. It doesn't disable the entire game itself. And more importantly, it doesn't disable your entire Steam account thus preventing access to all your games there.

But if this is true
If your account gets banned it does mean any EA game you have on your account would also be unavailable.

Then this is a serious issue. Losing access to all your games you own in your EA account because of hacking in a game is just not right.

Nope, everyone will start from scratch in the official version.

I may be wrong but one thing I feel about mp games with unlocks like this is that it gets easier as you level up and unlock better equipment. So when you just start out, you are the worst equipped player there and its really hard to go up against those player already have all sort of scope, blinding flashlight and laser sight.

That's why I switched to recon. I can't hope to keep up in the fast-twitch assault world, so I play from behind and snipe the idiots running around in the open. Play smarter, not faster.
 
Hey guys... I haven't played the beta for a few days -- any word on them enabling Caspian?
 
You are a bit late on that one. Caspian was playable but not anymore. You can currently find Metro CQ servers. But there are only a few, getting into them is a chore and once you get in it doesn't seem like it takes too long before they get shut down.

Metro is worlds better in CQ mode than Rush. But Caspian was a WAY better CQ map than Metro.
 
I can overlook most of the issues and bullshit thats in the beta.

But the fact you cannot arrange squads in game is a deal breaker for me. Whats the point of having friends to play with, squad deathmatch, how you going to manage that if you + 3 friends want to join a server, and play together, but it decides it wants to split you all up.

Dumb decision, and truly one that is game wrecking. It ruins the social aspect, it ruins the fun, I'll even go so far as to say it ruins the balance of the game.
 
That twitter poster is a tool man. I wouldn't buy anything he says until retail. Even after it could change.

Gun damage is broken in the beta, its a bug, that is not how they designed it.

With them being so concerned with not offending any of the n00bs, you actually expect them to reinvent the wheel or introduce game changing features mid flight? You have got to be kidding. If that twitter guy is confirmed to be an EA employee (which I assume he is over all this hype) why wouldnt you believe him?

This is also normal mode. Not hardcore. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
 
zh1nt0 gives out false information on a regular basis. Most of the time I think he has no clue what he is talking about. He's just flat out incompetent.

What the hell are you talking about.

Currently you cannot switch squads in-game as you could in BC2. They could easily change this later if it's not already in the final build.

That twitter poster, who does work for dice, has already given us false and misleading information. I have no reason to trust him at this point.

The best guns I've used so far are the starter sniper rifles and I'm level 25. I've already got 200+ kills with each of them. Once you get the laser site you can just run around and destroy unscoped or scoped. Once you get the 12x site you can single handedly stop whole teams in the subway. I got 3 squad wipe credits in a row. 19 kill streak. Just ridiculous! Sniper rifles are OP.

Oh and for the 40 year old dude, don't get discouraged, I was never getting even a 1.0 KD ratio yesterday, today I averaged 4 to 1! But then I'm only 30 ;)
 
Seeing as there is an in game squad menu I highly doubt the final version will be without choosing squads in game.
 
yep..i joined one of those 200 man conquest servers..to say the least..alot of fun..so is squad deathmatch..conquest on Metro..will be cool. would be better with 100..like we had. and barely any lag.
 
So twice I've CTD and got a windows 7 message saying my resources are low. Any ideas? I have 8GB of RAM. ATI 6950, AMD 955. Not doing anything except playing BF3.
 
"No contact with EA backend"

Anyone else getting this? Same message when I try to join any server. Is there an update going up or something?
 
I would imagine so..prolly something big with all the hacked servers..they gotta change code and do it fast..Beta is gonna go in the shitter real fast.
 
Yea I joined one of them glitch/bootleg servers and now im a 12th general.. or was before the "Backend error"
