Battlefield 3 crash

so my brothers computer has me a bit stumped, we've never had any issues with it before, but ever since battlefield 3 came out its been crashing during gameplay, however there has been no BSOD, the computer just freezes goes black, a loud buzzing sounds comes from the speakers and then it shuts off

I thought at first it was CPU heat related since he was still using a stock intel heatsink/fan so we put a hyper 212+ and now in intel burn test it maxes at 56 degrees and passes, still crashes playing battlefield

next I had him take turns playing with each GPU 1 at a time instead of crossfire, physically removed second card didnt just disable, still crashed

windows memory diagnostic passed passed

I'm a little confused here, most things that arent heat related generally produce a BSOD before crash, but I'm not getting one, and we've rolled out CPU or GPU heat and I find it hard to believe it could be MOBO heat

any ideas?

Specs:
Core i7 940
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
6 gigs Gskill Ram (3x2GB)
Radeon 5770 Crossfire
XFX 750 Watt PSU

I had to load Cap4-11.9 to get BF3 to run game. It would Bluescreen on me without Cap in Campaign mode. I didn't load PunkBuster & was begining to think that was the reason but the Cap seems to have worked for me. Did you load PB?

he does have cap 4 installed, the games runs fine for about 15 minutes before it crashes the whole comp with the symptoms described

Do the crashes occur with any other game?

Also, try using Furmark to fully load the GPUs just to rule out a GPU issue. Also, do a repair install of BF3 if possible.

good idea with furmark, didnt think of that, it doesnt happen with any other games, but he doesnt play that GPU intensive games really, starcraft 2 was hist most until BF3

so the comp ruins fine in furmark, 79 degrees at the hottest, nothing to worry about with a gpu there tho, but BF3 still crashes, im fucking confused

It sounds like you might have a bad stick of RAM, try running Memtest86+ on his system for at least 3 hours and you'll know if RAM is the issue.

If the RAM tests good, look at the power supply next. A lower quality PSU might not be able to supply quality, stable voltage to the components while playing a demanding game like BF3, or the PSU might be underpowered for his system.

its an excellent PSU, Johnny Guru recommended XFX, memory passed windows mem diag, when I get a chance I can run memtest

Sorry for the gravedig, but it's better than creating my own topic.

Exact same error as described, are there any patches?

Hmm, now that I think about it, anti-aliasing MIGHT be the problem. I fixed the error before, but didn't realize how...
