Battlefield 2, a return visit.

I just noticed BF2 is a 5 year old game. Is anyone looking forward to BattleField: Bad Company 2? It looks like BF2 but with updated graphics. What I loved the most about BF2 were the vehicles, especially the helicopters.

Yep! I'd say the recent PS3 beta of BF:BC2 is what rekindled the nostalgia of BF2 for a lot of us presently. There's a thread dedicated to it in the parent PC gaming forum IIRC.

Tell me about it. I played some of the open beta on the PS3 and I loved it, only gripe that kept me from playing it again was my missing keyboard and mouse. :(

In due time young gentoo, in due time..... :D

While Im sure the mechanics are different (new game, new engine, new combat focus), teh core ga,eplay remains the same. Squad based play with defined objectives. For all my fellow engineers out there, get yer damn wrenches ready and practice in bf2. lol

So. after reading this I installed BF2 and ill just say this now. I have put more time in the past three days then all my new games totaly. Reminds me of the good old days.

So what servers you all play on?

and a Tip for everyone in short cut of your BF2 icon where it says Target +restart at the end in and it will disable the EA splash screen and DICE. it loads the game a little quicker of your pc is not fully up today. (installed not in stock folders. They may varry on how you installed the game)

"D:\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +restart

I usually play on west coast servers...I often get around a 20 ping and there are a few that are almost always full during prime time.

[ISI] Iron Sharpens Iron West Coast (a christian server that is usually fairly well admined, but watch your language)

[swc] skunkworks clan (much looser rules which is nice but not as well admined)

=SF= Highway Tampa/AF/EF * New Maps * RANKED (used to only run Highway Tampa but now has a fairly extensive map list)

Those are my favorites. I'm usually on ISI though - I'm not christian but admins are usually on and idiots usually get kicked fairly quickly.

I am almost always a squad leader needing more contributing squaddies - I always play to win. Look for me if I'm playing and join up - =6thAD=KJ43.

Also hit me up on xfire if you like - kj43.

I picked up Qtracker again and started using it to find servers for me. It's nice because it also shows me the state they are located in and since I reside in Chicago it makes it easy to find a server that I'll easily get a 10ms ping or so which is pretty fucking nice for a game like BF2. So you'll usually find me on servers like TexasTeamPlayers, SF, Turd Ferguson's Fun House, FullContactWar, and some of the FaRT servers.

Sweet, I've been looking for some fellow [H]'rs to team up with. I'm about to jump on right now and look up your server. I'm on West Coast too and keep about a 10-20 ping on their servers so yours sounds good :D. Hope to see you on!

Edit: Does anyone have any probs playing this game with SLI enabled? It lets me play singleplayer with it enabled, but not multiplayer. As soon as I join a server, get the map loaded and then get to my kit selection, the game crashes to desktop with no errors (how it usually crashes). When I disable SLI, it works fine. G**damit this game is HORRIBLY unstable, the ONLY thing I hate about it.

I just played a bit last night and had some strange glitch going on. I was playing in a server and accidentally didn't look down the sights to fire one time... and I got a one-shot-kill.

I realized that with the MEC's medic AK, you can fire from the hip and kill guys with 1-3 shots. I hadn't played the game in almost a year, and went 73-11 once round.

I ran a BF2 server for a while. There were some pretty cool admin tools available for it. EA may not do everything right, but they did a lot right with BF2. Made it very easy to mod, very easy to setup servers for and very easy to administor those servers remotely without having to be in the game.

EA has put out quite a few good games throughout the years.

I live in CA and I regularly play on the =SF= Highway tampa server. Loads of fun, good admining, and pretty good connections (for being all the way out here I play with a fairly good 40-50 ping.

My SN is DevilDog48. Looking forward to seeing all of you out there and definitely been cool hearing about all the good experiences like I had.

FRAG HARD!!

Loaded it up for the first time in 3 years this weekend, played it for 15 minutes deleted it outa my HDD and threw the game discs in the garbage. Fuck you EA for ruining my favorite game series.

How did they ruin the game? Same experience that I remember it being for me. Could you explain?

I just bought the BF2 pack from Steam yesterday. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I had no issues running the game. Straight forward install, and 1.5 included nice widescreen support :)

Very much enjoying this game all over again, and will ride it out until Bad Company 2 in March.

I'm getting a ton of shadow flickering problems. Anyone else have this problem?

try turning shadows off, it actually makes gameplay easier as you can see a lot more anyway. I used to run it maxed out, but then i saw why my room mate was better on foot and its because he had shadows off as you can see a whole lot more

Cool thanks!

I can't believe how much fun I had jumping back into this game after 3 years. Hopefully BFBC2 will keep the Battlefield flame going for me.

Picked this game up during the holiday sale on Steam but I'm a little confused about some stuff. I only have one icon for Battlefield 2 but according to the Steam forums I will need to launch Special Forces separately if I want to play. Does this mean there are essentially two different communities for the original game and SF; each with their own servers? If so, what are most people playing?

Also, how are the kit unlocks handled since SF has their own set of unlocks as well?

Different servers for SF, but there are only a few still running. SF will give you some extra weapons to unlock, which will work in regular servers as well.
