Baldurs Gate 3 - Official Discussion Thread (2019)

It’s not you, and yeah, this was complete trash, and it was the biggest bait and switch since Daikatana.

BG3 makes every single Tribes sequel look authentic.

BG3 was so bad that it retroactively made Fallout 3 a true sequel to Fallout 2, and by extension, means that the Fallout world and the Elder Scrolls games must canonically be in the same universe.

It was a bunch of hype to sell a Divinity game that had nothing to do with the Baldur's Gate world or franchise.
Dude you are crazy, this is the best PC game in ages.

Lmao. Salty.

Game is good

I think it is a good game but it isn't one of my top RPGs. I think it is great how well it has done because it will draw more people to RPGs and maybe other games will get better $upport in the future.
It would have been better if it had been set somewhere else in the world and not BG. It didn't feel like BG to me. I also don't like the 5th edition rules.

Trying to get to level 5 yet killing stuff in Goblin village stuff I missed Im level 4.5 trying to gain XP in mini side quests the guys in the southern big area too tuff killed the knolls in the cave when the leader knoll joined me after 2 failed attempts. Saw the orcs getting on in that barn killed them both for their nasty act. I'm exploring the hidden cellar now or the wishing well. Big spider is too tuff so I guess you can stealth around him.

BG3 just barely makes my Steam top 10 list. (my own arbitrary ratings). I would say BG, BG2 are better RPGs and more complete stories and I just did play them through again recently so it's not purely nostalgia.

272 hours played. I would certainly buy a DLC for it. Not sure how people think the game is bad.

If I have one complaint, it is
You have to side with the Emperor at that one point or it's game over. That's way too railed for a game that allowed some creative freedom.

Funny story about BG3, I played Act 1 and 2 with my wife where I let her make all story decisions. She got a bit bored eventually so we never finished Act 3. In Act 2, at one point she caused a TPK (total party kill).

It seems the Githyanki Lich Goddess has Wish magic, and if you piss her off enough, instant death for you!

When do you have to side with the emperor? I dont remember that.

All in all, I remember loving BG1, BG2, Neverwinter Nights, etc... but I dont actually remember the games that well. Maybe I should go back and play them, but BG3 is def in my top 5 favorite games I've ever played.

When you first encounter the githyanki prince, and the Emperor is under attack. It's between Act 2 and Act 3

For the same reason people think that the Fallout games are bad. Fallout 3 was an Oblivion TC, not a Fallout game.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a Divinity TC, not a Baldur's Gate game.

It's a mod and should be treated that way.

good lord your hate boner is insane.

Your wrong, catagorically, live with it.

This seem to be 2 different statement.

Baldur's Gates 3 is bad vs Baldur's Gate 3 is a Divinity TC, not a Baldur's Gate game.

Why would that make BG3 a bad game ? Just because it is not a Baldur's game, that seem 2 different subject of conversation, almost completely. BG, is a studio got an IP to have a giant budget, should we particularly care how true it is to that IP it is or not ?

The problem I had with the game were the mechanics at first. Once I got that down jumping on higher or lower levels dashing to get closer to NPCs and navigate the spells using a controller. I just figured out how to pick locks on chests just yesterday.

Hahaha...this guy again! Wins all categories for game of the year but you're right and everyone else is wrong lol. Hey at least your schtick is consistent.

Finally killed that Matriarch Spider in the well and saved in the the Necromancers lab.
Screenshot is the Hags lair which I didn't know existed untill I found you can walk though the fireplace.
I'm about 400 XP shy of level 5 I have 31 hours in the game quest marker for the Mountain pass has been up for a long time just need level 5.

The hag was super easy the first playthrough I did, the second playthrough on honor mode I ended up winning by the skin of my teeth with my last character having like 5hp left hah.

Finally Hit Act 2 a year later the Mountain Pass Battle took 5-6 tries I drank a bunch of potions and cast some scrolls before I got smart to it. Screenshot is opening area of Act 2. My characters were 35 XP away from Level 5 but I got that as soon as I entered the Mountain Pass.

It’s a weird thing about computer games, because I can see the quality and the craftsmanship of this title… but I just can’t get into it, even though I keep trying… even though I want to love this game.

The exact same thing happened with the two Divinity games from Larian. Bought em day one, but never progressed.

I’m at the Druid’s Grove battle - but I can’t get past it.

I seriously need to reach Baldur’s Gate.

I had a similar thing happen to me with the divinity games, I couldn't get into them. This one, for whatever reason, resonated with me.

I still play BG1 and 2 periodically, 25+ years on. I am not sure I would do that with this one but I probably will come back to it for another playthrough sometime. Sad to say, you have a bit of a way to go to get to the city if you are about to finish the druid grove.

They were thinking about it or had some stuff fleshed out.
I wouldn't be surprise if the layoffs killed any chances of bg 4. I mean really laying off the folks who made bg 3 a success.... what a crappy company.

And yes i'm talking about Hasboro and not Larian.

What does Hasbro have to do with anything? Larian is an independent entity, and they self-published BG3 on all platforms.

Hasbro owns dnd. They cut a lot of staff over the past year, including the people working with Larian.
I don't know how involved they were, but post from Larian people sounded very unhappy about it and sounded like they had a close working relationship with the dnd peoples.

Considering how long BG3 took, we probably wouldn't have seen a Larian-made BG4 for quite a while anyway. There was a 20+ year gap between ToB and BG3, so I wouldn't give up on a 4th game. It might just take some time and some of these companies/IPs to change hands a few times.

Screw actual DnD then. Enough other schemes out there.
Too much screwing in the world; or maybe - depending on how you look at it - not enough screwing.... things that must be considered.
