Two of my machines were hung this morning on this one. A few restarts on each did not help. This one causes an immediate client crash, so the log isn't very helpful. The first 12:14:40 entry is after I clicked OK on the pop-up saying the client had crashed. I had already closed the client before accepting the crash pop-up a couple of times for each machine, and it would crash imediately when it tried to restart. One of the machines was my dual X5550 @ stock, so I am sure it is the WU. The other was my 970.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I've been stuck on this unit for about 24 hours on my SR2.

Can't get it to go away.
 
There seems to be some dodgy 268x's WU about. One was running very slow (slower than anything else by far) and the one after kept crashing the client, as you are experiencing.

It seems to be that if these units aren't successful, they are simply sent off to someone else, when they need to be taken out of circulation. I have a 6900 finishing later today and I'm hoping I don't get any more of this shit.. again.

On a side note, I do want to run this on more machines (production servers). But as it stands the clients are simply too unstable & time consuming to manage.
 
I had a very slow Wu on my 1p machine too. I thought I had a hardware problem.

edit: Its been marked as a bad WU.

To answer everyone's question, it takes several failed results to mark a WU as bad, and from what I can tell only FF mods can mark it as such. If it happens during the night it has the opportunity to spread

thank goodness i kept getting the same one and crashing as soon as it started and it wont go away either i tried a different machine id and everything. so im just crunching a normal smp till it goes way.


i just got it again.
 
Tobit was right about bad WUs circulating. What the heck is going on lately...? :confused:
 
managed to get it, crashes right away. Thought my machine was dying lol.
 
Hopefully the new integrated client auto-detects things like this and keeps itself running smoothly. The software should monitor itself to ensure as much work as possible gets done without us posting to FF etc.

lol some wishful thinking there... :p it would be nice though if it did.
 
I've had three crashes (entire machine locked up/rebooted) in the past few days, but all the WUs completed after restarting. One was a 2685 and one was a 6900, so it could have just been my bad luck.

What's killing me are the 2684s -- had them on all three boxen yesterday. :rolleyes:
 
Got that same WU on my SR-2 this morning, but it was about the time I was headed for work so I couldn't do anything about it. I knew it wasn't the machine - that rig is 100% solid and I've not had any problems since I replaced the 12 GB of DDR3 in it.

Hopefully that unit will have cleared itself and moved on to another unit....

If it is the same unit, you will come home the the "fah6.exe has stopped working..." Windows error, which would have happened as soon as the machine went under load to process this unit. That is the beauty of it...it will hang there at the pop-up window forever and will not try to flush the unit and load a new one. I have no idea how long both of my machines were down last night/this morning, but they would have stayed down indefinately without intervention.
 
got about 50 minutes left on this nomral smp unit hopefully "chuck " wont pull this bad unit again.

Thats exactly what I saw this morning before I left the house. I restarted the client and it said that is was deleting the unit. As I was leaving it was downloading new stuff, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Headed home in about 45 minutes, so I'll check then.
 
I guess i am "lucky" getting 2684 and 2685s
 
pulled a different 2686(Run 7, Clone 8, Gen 74) after 12 hours of crashing with 2686 (Run 8, Clone 18, Gen 63)
 
Mine picked up a 6900 after it deleted the defective 2686.

From the wiki regarding corestatus 75:- "These errors indicate an I/O hardware problem or perhaps an AV program preventing FAH from writing/reading certain work files."

Not running a sandybridge setup are you?
 
Shouldn't be I/O with this SSD. :)

It is a Sandy Bridge setup but I stopped using the Intel sata2 ports a week ago (even though I haven't experienced any issues). I haven't had a single issue with the other 9 6900's that have completed without issue.

Hopefully it was just a blip.
 
I'm willing to bet its a work unit issue.

My bigadv rigs, which have been rock stable for months, are suddenly crashing on more than half of their work units.

Somebody at PG is releasing some crap WUs, plain and simple.

Same thing here, P6900 is my nemesis lately.
 
Wow. I was going to post saying how nice the units were the last 3 days, but it seems I have dodged a shitstorm.

Eight 6900s, one of those rare scorching superfast 2685's. So no problems here and no 2684's.
 
I have had every type of bigadv WU crap on me now in the past few days.

fahwiki is no help. it indicates the error is GPU related :rolleyes:

The odds that this box is unstable is very slim. It has literally been folding stably for 90 days 24/7 at these exact speeds, and suddenly in the past 3 days since that 2686 showed up in musky's OP (which I also saw) I can hardly complete a bigadv wu.

One of my systems froze today on a P6900. A couple of days ago another system restarted and resumed a P6900 but I got nothing for it when it completed. Beware if your systems restart. That's a worst failure than having the error box come up or a Windows freeze. If a system restarts it is indicative of something more serious and you might not get credit even if you manage to salvage the WU and upload results.

Don't know why all the issues lately. It sure has me thinking of switching to regular SMP since that never seems to have problems.
 
I've now officially dropped out of the top 20 PPD list due to three terrible days out of four.

I was #6 or #7 just 5 days ago.

I may have found the source; I've had a memory related BSOD this evening and after running some memory tests, they are picking up errors. I've set the ram to stock speeds/ volts - still errors. Looks like a flaky Dimm.

That would make sense, the 1st recommendation was to vape the client install and start again, which you had done. The 2nd was to dial back the overclock. Thats all they have so far but the next step would have been some hardware testing

Can't speak for everyone but in my case it's definitely not memory. I've swapped memory and run the most affected systems at stock speeds and still there are issues. Admittedly, some systems 'seem' more susceptible than others.
 
Second Dimm was in fact a paperweight :D

Got it, and impressed FaH noticed it long before windows. BigAdv flag is now back and hopefully (in 8 hours) things resume.

All these errors that people are getting has got me wondering if it is not a bunch of dodgy WU's in the wild, but the client is now more sensitive to hardware errors - that would make sense.

Glad you have got it sorted. They do say that F@H is one of the most demanding programs out there for stressing the system. It is often said that even being prime95 stable is no guarantee of being folding stable
 
I seem to have gotten lucky. I've turned in 3 or 4 bigadv's since this thread started and none have crashed yet.
 
Sheesh...I had thought about posting about a 2684 that was a little slower than normal but I've had no crashes so I guess luckier than most. I also attributed the slowdown to a steady stream of 353pt gpu wu's which I hear tell consume a little more cpu so figured that's all it was.
