Bad Time to Buy ?

Is now a bad time to buy a monitor ? Displayport 1.3 is coming out soon right ? I have the money to buy an AsusVG248QE monitor

on Tuesday but am worried it may be a bad idea due to the displayport 1.3 and Free Sync coming out later. Opinions ?

Man, I look at it this way: Got money now? Buy now!

Unless I know for certain that something new and worthwhile will be coming out within the next couple of weeks, I buy when I have the money. If you want to wait for something new you will always be waiting because there is always something new on the horizon.

Don't have a ton to add on the timing of a purchase decision, but I will stop in to say that I bought that exact model from amazon about two weeks ago to replace my old LG L227WTG and am loving it.

Don't forget to actually set it for 144 once you hook it up, Windows wanted to run mine at 60 until I told it otherwise.

One other caveat is that out of the box it's settings are a little wonky, not very true to color, and the brightness is way out of control. However, I found that using this site's displayprofile settings really got it to a very nice place. http://pcmonitors.info/reviews/asus-vg248qe

Considering how slow HDMI 2.0 adoption has been, you may be waiting another year or two for DP 1.3 compatible GPUs and monitors. That is a long time to wait, so I'd buy now.

You guys make some good points. I'm going to pick it up on Wednesday. My 24" Samsung died last year and I've been using my old 20" LG since then until I had the money to get a good replacement. Getting a nice bonus on next pay so the time is now.
