Putting together a new computer. Here are the specs;
Asus P5N-D
PNY GTX 260
Coolmax CUG-700B
Core 2 Quad Q6600
OCZ 2x2GB DDR2 6400
Seagate HDD 250GB
LG DVD-RW

Put it together it ran for about 30 seconds (I was checking fans and such). It stutdown and won't power on. I don't have another PSU that can run the new system. I did hook one up to the motherboard (a 350w) just to see the little green light go on. So I'm thinking the PSU crapped out. Any other thoughts?

And when the Coolmax is hooked up to the board the green light doesn't come on?

Then yes, I would say the PSU is dead.

Sounds like a power issue to man. Good luck with the RMA!

Hopefully the one you get back from the RMA wont be DOA...that's what happened with my Tagan PSU.

Well the darn thing had a five egg rating at newegg with 151 reviews. It does seem that the few bad reviews that there are were for DOA or dead within a couple of weeks. I will give it one more shot and if the second one is crap I'll go with something else.

Newegg reviews generally need to be taken with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to power supplies. I'd advise you to contact Newegg and politely ask the CSR for a refund w/out a restock fee and a free UPS ARS label (they do it all of the time) on the Coolmax psu, and in turn you'll purchase a different psu from them. Spend an extra $10 and get a Corsair TX650. If you aren't familiar with Corsair psu's you can search this forum.

Yeah like device manager said, Newegg reviews should taken very very lightly. A single proper PSU review, like the ones done by HardOCP.com and jonnyGURU.com, carries a lot more weight than even 1000 newegg reviews for a PSU IMO.

I'll have to reserve my opinions on the Coolmax due to conflict of interest, but I will concur with the opinions here of Newegg reviews. I've seen fantastic products get two egg reviews and crap get five egg reviews. The reviews are good as a reference, but can't be trusted as a deciding factor.

Not if he doesn't even get a +5VSB light on the motherboard while another PSU does light up the board, which rules out the board.

I went with the CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX instead and saved a few bucks.

What? I think you misread what I said, but I do realize I wrote it wrong too.

Here's what it should have been:
"Sounds like a power issue to me too man. Good luck with the RMA for that power supply."

In other words, not once did I mention a motherboard and I agreed with the consensus of the thread.

Nice! My Thermaltake 560 started giving me crap a while back and I replaced it with the 520HX modular. I really like the build quality, and its been incredibly stable.

Oh... sorry. The way it sounded to me, it was like you were trying to imply not enough power as opposed to a bad power supply.

Before I forget I would like to thank all of you for your help. I feel very confident that I made the right choice, due in large part to your very helpful suggestions. :)
