Sorry guys but with the heat of summer comming I wont be folding for at least a few days, my CPU temp hit 50c today which is unacceptable. I will clean my case this weekend and see if that makes a difference otherwise I will have to wait untill early july for when I setup my watercooling.

Don't blame ya, my 2.8 runs at like 60C. my room is like twice as hot as the rest of the house. Right now I've got 5 computers running and it is a furnace, makes it hard to sleep. Maybe I should buy a window unit or something, anybody wanna donate one???

i just bought one for my self.. its rated for a room 2x the size of this one..

its nice a frosty in here now

Where do folks live? It has been below our average highs in this part of Dixie and it has gotten downright chilly for this time of year here a couple of days.

Sorry, my parent's won't let me grab the window unit they have in case the A/C goes out in my grandparents' house and they need it. Otherwise I would have one.

50C for a CPU temp isn't bad if the room temp is high. I usually won't worry too much about that. When it starts edging up to 60C is when I start worrying. Then again, since I got watercooling I haven't had to worry about that. It may be an EXOS but it works well enough for my needs.

2.8 at 60°C??

stock cooling?
northwood? or prescott?
ambient temps?

3.6 GHz here chilling at upper 40's, room temp is ~30°C :p

But going on trip to British Isles this summer, rig will have to go down for ~22 days :(

Northwood. All stock. Underclocked @ 2793Mhz (Damn intel board).

Damn didn't realiza it was that hot, untill I ran this proggy.

Picking up a can o air, I have a dog and a cat, to help clean my case out, good weekend project I guess. Hope it helps my temps a bit.

Mine stays around 46. Stock everything. I think the intel alarm is set for 65. 50 shouldn't be a problem.

50 is just my preferance of a limit, call me paranoid thats fine but I would rather be so than loss my system.

Guys...
I've got the first edition of the 478pin 3.0GHz Prescott....
The one that doubles as a Hot Plate for frying eggs and 2 lb steaks.
I'm happy if it stays below 70C... I've got my mobo alarms set at 85C
You can almost boil water with this thing after 1-2 hrs serious gaming.

I haven't checked a CPU temp in years. If it's close to being too hot, it'll let you know by locking up. Unless you have a fan or heatsink failure, you'll get plenty of hints that it's too hot long before any damage is done. Just go, man!

My Farm hates me, even if its hot outside, I never turn the AC on unless I am home, she has not shut down yet.

So do people in northern states not have a/c, or not run it or something? I still haven't figured out the lower overclocks in summer thing most people complain about. Maybe that's because it doesn't get really cold here and a/c is mandentory around April-October here, and even in the winter sometimes.

My inside temperature is around 65F in the winter and 80F in the summer, but I manage to keep the same overclocks the entire time stable.

my family keeps the house at around 64F in the winter and around 72F in the summer... Why we can't just put it on 68F all year 'round is beyond me... here is the "mountains" our typical winter temps hover around 35... anywhere from 10-50 depending... In the summer, it's more like 75 and ranging from 55-100...

I need to put a thermometer in my office and see how warm it gets... I've been shutting the door partway to warm a 10 gal. fish tank (which stays around 74)....

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

move to the basement.

me and u_m now have 3 computers in the one room... athlon 900, athlon xp @ 2.28, and p4 @ 3. my athlon (the xp) is running at 44C w/ 22C ambient (case) temp. room is nice and cool. it'll be like this all summer

that said, if i go back to my room, i'll probably need to get a window AC unit to supplement the central heating/cooling.

that reminds me... i gotta go change my location:p

window units are so cheap now.... many places, target, wal mart, sears, home depot, all have small units (5000-5200) for around $80. A worthy investment to keep your room cool.

Also you just might want to add some more cooling to your case, or leave it open for a bit..... even and increase of 10-20 degrees F, is only a couple of C degrees.

Sounds like you just need to maybe cool the system a bit more, or a better HSF.

and as most are saying 50C, is pretty much a normal temp.

Naked boxen are the only way to go! :D

Acctually most of my compters don't have the side panel on them. I might just get a window unit, right after I get my mini fridge...

You mean computers are supposed to have side panels?

On a legit note - at home, I have central air, but was today given a fully functioning window AC unit which I am going to put into the window like 3 feet away from my computers...I was worried about having to turn down my O/C this summer....haha, looks like its time to crank it up!

bash-2.05b# < /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature cat > /dev/stdout
temperature: 47 C
p4 2.4c at 3.0, zalman 7000 alcu, as3. Not bad at all.

Check out my temps:

Ambient in case = 37 degrees C
CPU = 57 degrees C

With my rig below that's o/ced. Yeah its hot in Singapore :p. Funny enough lowering the o/c back to stock does not change the temps. :D
