I had the same problem with the IP35 E, it would not detect the IDE anything... so go sata and everything worksI got a sata DVD Burner, SATA HDD, no problems there...
IDE works fine on my IP-35E ... you guys tried flashing the BIOS up to v15?
I don't see any updates for BIOS on the website... I may be blind, but don't you mind linking to the site? Thanks.
Jon, I'm not planning to put windows on this anytime soon, however.....
Does the IDE stuff show up in windows?
What happened to the days of a mobo just working?!
I've no idea - I'm free of IDE... No idea, my apologizes.

This is often a problem with the add in IDE controllers on Intel boards. The JMicron controller is the worst of the bunch I believe and also the most widely used. Linux hates the JMicron controllers. I have been able to do an install of Linux from an IDE DVD burner on the JMicron controller but once the OS was up and running I couldn't get the burner to work for shit until I purchased a new SATA one. After that everything was smooth sailing.
If you don't want to grab SATA drives you might want to look for a cheap PCI IDE card. You should be able to find the old Promise PCI IDE cards pretty cheap. They work just fine in Linux although you'll never get them to work in Vista if you decide to use it in a Vista machine one of these days.

Didn't think of that.......
*rumages though parts bin*
I know I keep this junk around for some reason.

And people wonder why I have so much "junk" laying around. That junk has saved me a good bit of money and trouble over time.
Hell, if I get hard up enough for a hard drive and CDROM I still have some old SCSI 3 stuff around. The 4.3 gig hard drive should still be good and the last time I used the SCSI CD burner it worked just fine. Sure, it's not a DVD optical drive, but there are still plenty of Linux distros which come on CD.
