Hello all. I was just on my PC playing some World of Warcraft when all of a sudden the game froze. No big deal could have been the game crashing or lag. Well the game wouldn't "unfreeze" and ctrl + alt + del wouldn't work. I could not alt tab out of the game. So I had to hard boot the machine. At this point windows would not load. It stays at "Verifying DMI Pool" and eventually asks for a bootable device. I rebooted and jumped into BIOS. No HD is being recognized. I then plugged the HD into a different SATA port and nothing.

The Harddrive in question is an SATA WD 500gb. There was no loud noise or clanking sound as I've had in the past with HD failures. What do you all think? Also is there anyway to retrieve any info on there considering it wont even fire up?

If the HD is dead the only way to retrieve info from it would be to send it to an information recovery forensics specialist that specializes in rebuilding hard drives that have gone bad.

This sounds like it could also be a dead motherboard or power supply, plug the hard drive into another computer and see if it's recognized. If the other computer doesn't recognize the HD then it's the HD that's dead. If the other computer does recognize it then it's the motherboard or power supply that's gone bad in your pc. Plug in another power supply that is known to be good into your pc and see if it works correctly (if the HD is found to be good). If the good power supply fixes the problem then you should replace the power supply. If not then the power supply is still good and the mother board is probably bad.
