Bad Company 2

Not sure, but I think that the cheats have some built in ways to avoid PB. Makes it more difficult to catch them. Kind of like a radar detector.

I know, from unfortunate experience, that some people get away with it constantly by paying for it. There are sites that constantly keep ahead of PB with new code. Just have to be enough of an asshat to shell out money to ruin it for all of us.

this hacker finally got caught (http://www.pbbans.com/mbi-viewban-17f154b8-vb176467.html ), but does anyone know how PB works?

PB says he got caught with AIMBOT 50120, but PB has been banning for that bot since March 20. so I don't quite understand why it took PB so long to catch the guy.

Ive seen a lot of hackers get banned but never played against any. I've noticed it more in european and especially asian servers. see like 15 people log on and immediately be banned.

I really don't understand these people. Discovery channel should create a documentary on these strange folk. I mean honestly you play a game to have fun and to some extent see how good you are. Shelling out money to basically turn the game into whack-a-mole certainly would feel emasculating.

Man, I was playing late last night and a couple guys just sat in spawn doing nothing but spam the chat with N**, J** blah blah blah it just went on and ooon and I asked "Hey, there's cheaper ways to spam your bs across the internet, whyd you pay $50 to do it here? Most people arent even following the chat?" The reply was more cursing. Whatever..

Those small minded drunks get the C4 knife. Aka sneak up on them, pile up the C4 or mines and BLAMMO! Make them flyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

I agree, those types need to be banned. Why in the world is the J word not on the list? The cursing filter on this game is l o l.

Yea what is up with that?! I have no problems hitting moving targets...Now I have to deal with more stray bullets hitting my face as I move. Hit boxes are fine! *shakes fist*

The hitboxes are in fact, terrible.

This "Fix" they are rolling out is basically their ghetto way of fixing a problem they can't actually figure out how to solve with their crummy engine. Every game they've made since BF2 has used an engine which is just an iteration of their BF2 engine... which was crap. BF2, BF2142, and the rest have all had shit hit registration. Until DICE throws out their crap engine (It does look pretty.... that's it), reads up on net code, and starts over from scratch, the series will always have this problem.

The "Running to avoid fire" that you guys are lamenting the loss of only worked in this game BECAUSE of the horrible registration, not some perceived skill at evasive movement or something. In counterstrike and other shooters with automatic weaponry you'll just die running around like people do in this game.

reads up on net code

I love having to hit a key to change weapons twice because it immediately lags back to the previous weapon before I made the key stroke.

Still can't figure out why the ping in the server browser is sub 40 and in game i'm never below 100. Only game i've seen this happen in.

I don't know the specifics of exactly what does it or how it works, but I do know that the game actually enforces additional artificial ping/latency on all players in some form; I think by default it is approximately 100ms. They do this in the name of a "smooth experience for all players" or something along those lines. Retarded.

In-game latency is the round-trip latency plus server calculation time. The browser latency is one-way latency (rounded to multiples of 16 it seems :p).

One of the developers said that Bad Company 2 shows actual latency instead of just network latency.

I was going to type something longer, but I'll just say that data processing time and round-trip vs one-way latency aren't anywhere close to enough to explain the discrepancy between BF2's, BF2142's, and BC2's high pings and bad hit registration vs. pretty much every other modern FPS dating from BF2 to the present.

I never found any issue with it. Not to toot my own horn or anything but I don't think it's any harder for a lower-ranked player to come up with an Ace than anyone else, especially if you've unlocked the ammo/medkit/repair tool.

Yeah, once you reach level 20s then it's fairly easy to get Ace pins. I don't think rank really comes into it, you just need to learn the maps.

Good to see you on Nelson Bay the other evening. I got an Ace pin in that game, I think you may have for the other team.

I only realised you were on when I killed you with hand grenades! Heh :p

You know it irks me when people have a go at DICE and their 'crappy' engine, especially BF2. I remember when that came out and at how amazed it was for being such a slick well performing engine and also being an online game. It was truly impressive, and still is.

Now consider how much is going on in BC2, what with all the building destruction and it's no small feat to get it all working. Infact, it's probably a testament to how well they've done that we take much of it for granted. Sure there are a few niggles here and there, but from experience, as long as you're playing on a server in your own country, it's pretty damn good.

People seem to have Counter Strike set as the ultimate primo netcode example, but you have to understand how limited that game is. You're not playing on the scale you see in battlefield, and there's less 'things' going on. The only thing that matters in CS is gunfire and they've optimised the engine for that. But in BC2 you've got also flag capturing, revives, building destruction (that must've been a pain to implement), vehicles, etc. It's a whole different ball game and consequently you're inevitably not gunna get that level of snappiness. But then again, that's not what the game is about.

And yeah, obviously the knife needs to be fixed. As for the hitbox, I guess that's simply for the snipers 'cos if your target is running sideways to you at range, you're no gunna get them. A good thing imho, but whatever, we'll see. Oh, and don't knock it until you've actually played the game with it implemented, which I'm fairly sure you haven't.

Yeah, that was a frustrating game for my side at least. You lot had it locked down pretty well and I seemed to be the only person interested in pushing up and arming.

Not been playing much recently to be fair. HC games seem o be rife with 40mm and Gustav spam, and since I platinumed the Abakan I can't find something I like as much on non-hardcore games.

Every game is a 40mm/Gustav spam fest. I love how virtually nobody played engineer when the game first came out because their primary weapon was outmatched against other infantry. Now engineer is the most played class on every map. Was pretty surprised on Laguna Prasa to be hit by about 12 rockets while in the bradley, but I than realized they didn't choose engi. for anti vehicle but anti infantry.

I'm seeing a definite increase in Engineer too, but Carl Gustaving is about the same. The truth is that the Engineer guns totally outclass everything else, even sniper. High fire rate, little to no recoil and damn good accuracy. All of them are good. If you're first shot hits their head, they aint gunna be sending any lead back and they'll be dead in less than a second.

I recently played as sniper for a bit to get all the gun bronze medals and was horrified at how lame and useless the sniper rifles are at sniping compared to any of the engineer guns. Seriously, once a sniper in a bush gets marked up, no matter how far away they are, you can pop a few rounds their way with an XM8 C and they'll be no match for you.

It almost feels as if the game is 'nice' to engineer bullets and lets you get hits at great distances that would otherwise be a massive challenge with a sniper rifle. Anyone else get that feeling?

When I first started playing the game, I started with Engineer. I would play as Assault and Medic only to level up and unlock weapons, but mostly I enjoyed the Engineer. And to be honest, I actually prefer it due to the weapons like XM8, PP 2000 and UZi rather than the CG. I do enjoy using the CG, but only because it still makes me laugh when I manage to get a tracer on a tank and can hide around a corner and watch as my CG smoke trail does a 90 degree turn in mid air.

I prefer the assault class next, mainly due to unlimited ammo. Medic next, followed by Recon last. As you've stated, the Recon (once he's been spotted) will absolutely get decimated by ANY other weapon. I don't know how many times I've tried sniping and get picked off by some stupid assault or engineer gun from across the map.

There's no point in playing recon if the 12x scope doesn't provide you any added benefit over other classes weapon range and accuracy.

Have you gone platinum with the M416 yet? That's a very nice gun, second only to the AN-94 as far as assault guns go.

If you want medals on the sniper rifles, you definitely should play HC. It's a snipefest anyway with body shots (toe shots too) are 1 hit kills.

I may be done with this game though. While it started off great, now I'm rage quitting servers more and more. I play 32 player Normal mode ones and try to get into the most populated ones. I'll join one with only 1-2 spots open, spawn in only to find out the reason why there was a spot open was that the team I joined was getting rolled. The open spot was from some guy rage quitting and after several frustrating attempts on my part to turn it around, I open that slot back up by rage quitting.

I do enjoy a challenge but when there's no one with a rank within 20 of mine (I'm a 47) and several non-ranked players that's unplayable to me.

i think this is true, but from the perspective of sniper rifles being useless compared to all weapons. I've out-sniped recons using the Rex revolver on several occasions. for me, the recon class is reserved for times when i feel like being a goof and rushing objectives as rambo-sniper. it's exhilarating to get kills with a bolt-action rifle at close-medium range...but only because you know the enemy has the advantage to begin with. recon is my least played class.

I really don't get the M416. I have been trying it but it's a bit temperamental. It just feels the same as the XM8 to me. Serviceable, but as soon as you unlock the AN-94 you drop it.

I'm all for challenging myself and stopped using the M60 because it felt dirty, but the Abakan really has spoiled the Assault class for me.

IMO the Akaban is dirtier than the M60.

Bazajaytee said the patch has passed QA and is looking good for a release on Wednesday. So you gotta wait 5 more days for this "fix".

Elaborating on this for those that don't follow Bazajaytee's twitter: EA version passed QA. Now they're checking to make sure the Steam version clears. Assuming that works, we'll see the patch on the coming wednesday. *crosses fingers*

And to quote him from the EA forums:
So early signs are we fixed the problem by rolling back a change involving SPECACT kits.

As long as this continues we are aiming to release on Wednesday (23rd) of next week. However this is dependant on how fast we can gain approval the patch is compliant with Steam. If that approval does not come quick enough the release will slip to the Monday (28th) of the week after (as it is a red day in Sweden on Friday next week and we don't release patches at the end of working weeks).

This does mean that SPECACT kits will not be available after patching as we had hoped but all other fixes remain as does the ability to play the new modes like Map Pack #3.

I just made a small test.

With my system I get the same FPS at all low as all Maxed

Stupid CPU cap :D

I'll disagree. 100 rounds of massive damage with nearly infallible accuracy and full-auto spam compared to 30 rounds of burst-fire with nearly infallible accuracy sounds worse. Especially if like me you go with smoke by default, compared to medics with the red dot and magnum.

Hardly. I'm just looking for "counterstrike or better". CS has a few reg problems but they aren't nearly game-breaking like they are in BC2. A better definition for the hit registration I am looking for in a game would be "Reasonably good"... which BC2 is not.

spine said:

The game isn't about working right? So... you don't expect people to actually get shot when you shoot them? In an FPS? This FPS isn't about the correct handling of shooting? lol.

....Meaning the game is currently broken, I guess? Having your weapon stop working because your target is moving is completely unreasonable.

I have played this game when the hitboxes were handled like that. It was called Battlefield 2. And guess what? The hit reg was horrendous.

Don't get me wrong, I want this "solution" to improve gameplay; I would love it if after the patch nearly every time I shot a guy he would get hit.... but that doesn't make it any less of a ghetto solution for a bad engine.

As for all the "complicated stuff" going on in BC2; That doesn't excuse it in the least. Building destruction, flag caps, revives, etc really don't have anything to do with hit detection at all. All it's got going against it is map size and vehicles, but you don't see the much faster paced UT3 with this problem. The battlefield series is EASILY the consistently worst-registering game series I have EVER played in my entire FPS gaming career.

SO finally got it to work on my rig after switching video cards. 2 comments.

1. What in god's name is up with the smoke? Whether it's a winter level or desert level, the constant blowing dust and snow make it impossible to see. IT pretty much completely takes skill out of the game, as it's reduced to lets all rush in so we can see and meele/knife/spray and pray each other.

2. How come when I snipe someone 4 times at point blank range, then shoot them 7 times with a pistol, they still have 70 health left?

What a complete waste of $50.

I take it you're a sniper then?

I like the fog/smoke/dust effects as they provide some extra cover when I'm on the move.

I take it you're not playing Hardcore mode if it takes that many shots to kill. I vastly prefer Hardcore for the enhanced realism but it is a tradeoff. You can't spot people in the HUD for your team (unless they open up the map) and it's harder to find dead bodies as a medic.

Try playing Hardcore Rush if you snipe. You'll have a much better time. You can find me on the Ars Clan server (search for 'Ars Clan' it's case sensitive) a few nights a week.

From my perspective (little over 200 hours in), this hit registry problem is obviously really annoying when it blatantly rears its hideous head, but you guys make it out to be completely game breaking and absolutely catastrophic to your experience when I honestly only experience it maybe once or twice every few games. Sure it gets me killed sometimes and yes it does piss me off, but far more often than not, it works. Thankfully I barely touch the Recon kit since those "snipers" seem to suffer the most from it so my view might be biased. :D

The fucking knife on the other hand. Oh I hate that thing with a passion and that is where most of my frustration is directed at when the phrases"DICE" and "where is the God damn patch" or "DICE" and "fucking knife" are in the same sentence.

I rarely get problems with hit registry on stationary targets (the last time was probably 3 weeks ago SV98 to face 3 times at 20m) and but I don't have any problems with registry on moving targets once I learned to lead my targets even at close range which is kinda lame. I consider my target lucky whenever the hit reg is screwy, but honestly it's no big deal. The knife on the other hand...a;lskdjf;lkasj;f

I'm kind of eager to play with the increased hitbox on moving targets so I don't have to concentrate so much when I try to get some headshots while sniping.

The only time I run into problems with hit registry is on foreign servers, so I try to avoid them which is kind of annoying since Ping is still broken in the server browser.

Run the game in admin mode if you're using windows vista or 7. That fixed the ping issue for me.

Hit reg isn't completely broken guys, cmon. I still snipe moving targets easily that are well over 200(ft? m?) away. Like fochkoph said, shitty reg happens from time to time, but more often than not, it works fine. If you're not hitting you might wanna try changing servers or something. I will admit though that lately reg has been worse than it was in the weeks before, but nothing game breaking.

I've maybe noticed shots not registering a few times. It's usually a spray n pray that will mess up, sniper shots, nades and bursts always work. Most of the time when people say OMGWTFREG, they're actually missing.

Anyways, I think the game is fucking amazing. I can feel my hurt beating like crazy when there are mortars going off all around me and when I see a tank and try to run behind a wall or get behind a building as fast as I can. You can't go rambo in this game whatsoever. Taking on 2+ people at once almost always results in death. Teamwork is very important as well as positioning.

I turned off bloom and the dust problem seemed to be less problematic, that or I just got used to it. The first time I noticed the dust and snow I was definitely annoyed, well, not annoyed, it's something new for me. I've only really played CSS.

Might I add, the game is damn sexy. The only problem I have with the game is FPS. Currently, my CPU is bottlenecking my system. I get ~30 fps but frequently stay in the 20's @1680x1050 and everything on high, bloom turned off, 16xaf and 4xaa. It doesn't matter what I do to AA or res. :( need to unlock a wallet upgrade.

Oh and I still haven't gotten the ping issue fixed after checking run as adminsitrator for steam,bfbc2.exe and the bfbc2 updater (forgot it's name). I see "-" for every server in the server browser with an occassional 999 and my ping is never < 100 in-game. I think I used to play with 70 max in CSS because I decided any higher was stupid.

I go rambo all the time wtf.

The only times I've noticed any real hit registration issues is with the broken ass knife. stab stab stab, nothing, bang bang dead.

Once in a while when someone is on a mounted gun there will be issues, as noted in the videos above, but that's a rare occurance.
