Bad Company 2

I'll be picking up Vietnam later tonight or tomorrow. Can't wait to see if they fixed the problems/gripes I had with the first one.

Steam Sale = hacker fest....

I've just finished a game where a new char had 65 - 0.... probably bought the game today for 6$ so he doesn't care for bans.

Yeah they are out there. Just play on a server with an admin willing to ban fucks like that. If you are infy on a normal ticket server, you CAN'T get that many targets. I am about as good an infantry player as you can be and I will go at BEST 32-4 or so. I just can't see that many targets like the cheats allow you to see. It is really a matter of targets. I just do not see that many targets a round period. Try and squad up with a cheat. Watch them. Sometimes they try and hide it but usually they just have AMAZING timing about their positioning. Like they KNOW where the majority of enemy are moving to. Some maps have choke points, true. Still, I set up and intentionally SHIT camped a spawn just to try and get those stats. Couldn't. Just did not have enough ammo.

So there are servers that are cool. Just have to make sure you are in one. If there are fucks ruining it, leave. Not much else we can do.

I look forward to a future were these griefers get their porn blocked for being such douchebags.

I just got BC2 off Steam, mostly due to the low price and all the fanfare on this forum. I have to say that so far, I don't like this game much.

It's such a slow paced game and maybe I am doing something wrong, but who likes dying and then having to run for five minutes back into battle only to get killed and do it all over?

The weapons aren't much, there isn't a lot of player customization. I just don't get it. I feel like I wish I saved the $20 bucks.

Try to stick with it for a little longer. A lot of people I know (including me) had the same first experience. You keep dying, you don't even know what killed you, where to go, what to do, etc. After a few hours you'll start to get the feel of the game.

It's squad-based, so if you're in an advanced position on a map and you're the only one alive, try to just stay alive so your squad can spawn on you. Likewise you can spawn on them.

You may want to start off on softcore so you can see where the enemies are. When you have one in your sights hit Q and it will light'm up for your team to see. You can get points just for spotting people.

Also, the guns that you have to start off with aren't that great...once you start getting some better weapons it will become easier.

Also keep in mind when you get some new weapon unlocks its gets easier. The game is really a lot of fun when you get used to how it works.

As you rank up you get more weapon unlocks as well as more unlocks for that specific weapon (IE scopes, sights, etc).

As someone else mentioned, the game works best when you join a squad , just click thke "yes, put me in a squad" when the map is loading to get into one right away, you can click the "squad management" tab to select another if you wish after you die.

Once you are in ai squad when you die you can choose to spawn on your squad mates, anyone of them, as long as they are alive that is.

As far as the pace goes, it depends on the class, map, and how you are playing really.

The smaller more rush oriented maps can be EXTREMELY hectic and very frantic firefights whereas the larger "conquest" style open area maps can be slower paced with more long range firefights.

Find a class you like (engineer's are good up close quick killers, assault more mid range and medics have the mgs) for your play style and just play and lv up to find which weapon you enjoy the most.

Once you find a good weapon and you learn the maps/modes you'll probably have a lot more fun. Certain maps you might not like (IE I don't like the open jungle'ish map) and you can easily stick witht he maps you do enjoy via the server filters.

Good, maybe they're fixing stuff. Since the Vietnam patch came out, I still have pings of <25 to nearby servers, but as soon as I get in a server, everyone's ping is usually > 100, sometimes in the 200s, and mine is around 90-100. It's unplayable at those pings. I've frakked with my router, did some of the Windows tweaks and updated PB manually, all to no effect, it's got to be server side. Pinging websites and such still gives me pings of < 30 and since the server browser still shows regional servers < 30 , I'm pretty sure it's not me.

And I'm doubly POed because I bought it for $20 before the sale, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Oh well, it's like 4 microbrews, lol.

Was one of my fav server too :( There are usually a few admins playing during the day, but during last night there were none.

Hopefully it's just a phase and these kiddies off themselves eventually :D

lol, this has how it's been since BC2 was released, not since the "Vietnam patch." BC2 uses a different method of reporting pings than other games, but it doesn't actually mean that your ping is that much higher. The performance is actually exactly the same as any other game where your ping would be what it shows in BC2's server browser, so what you are experiencing is either a placebo effect or you have some internet connection issues to work out.

Yeah I eventually learned to ignore the reported pings and just go by how the game feels after 10 minutes of play or so. If it is immediately laggy then I leave straight away, but if I'm doing well and I'm not suffering big lag after about 10 minutes, I put the server on my favourites.

I had a terrible time when I bought the game on PC a month ago due to lag and very nearly resorted to smashing the disc (I rage-uninstalled at least twice), but after mucking around in different servers and working out which ones worked better on my connection, I'm now loving the game.

Well, it is noticeably worse. I am now getting lag spikes on all the servers I've tried (I define spike as something disappearing for a microsecond and reappearing ) and I can't hit anything. It doesn't make sense that a command-line ping to a server and the browser show low pings and then in game all the pings are ridiculously high. It did start with the "can't connect to server" error on a bunch of servers, but then that cleared up and I could connect normally but my ping was ridiculous.

This is the only game I'm having issues in too...

The sale has overpowered EA servers. Their fault for using the system they have. They will have to beef up the bandwidth or the game will lose players until it is playable again.

On the bright side, maybe some of the cheaters will get bored of making the game way to easy for themselves, stop playing, go out for a bite and get steamrolled by a raging rhinoceros recently escaped from the zoo.

Play something else in the meantime.

Bought it on Steam for the $7.
All of the good ping servers were either full or empty. No in between.

Finally just hit the play button where it sends you to some random server and I'm pretty sure it sent me to Germany...maybe France...server name was German but lots of Frenchies. It was empty when I got there so I was just checking out the map and then one or two other people popped in and then shazam, the thing was full and game on. I played till 4:00 in the morning. Ping was "reported" in the 200's but oddly, it played fine and I hit what I was aiming at.

Didn't BF2 allow you to play the MP maps against bots like a single player game???
I was looking for a way to do that with BFBC2 but didn't see it. I like to learn the maps that way so I don't look like the noob I looked like last night.

the connection problem is probably due to packet loss. try trace routing/pinging a few servers and see what happens.

as far as in game ping goes its due to the anti-lag the game uses. so that no one has an insane advantage or disadvantage. keeps people from having 0 pings because they live 2 blocks away from the server. some games 0 ping is great, other games 0 ping is horrible. so instead they artificially raise the ping to balance it out. the games playable between 90-250ms anyways.

How are you guys feeling about Vietnam? I'm going to buy it after the steam sale, I figured it's worth waiting to see if it goes on sale by some slim chance, since I'm in no rush anyway.

I also wish that Dice would create an offline mode so I can learn how to fly the helicopters without worrying about being in a live match. That would be just so so awesome. What do you guys think?

I really like it. I first started with the BF series with BF:Vietnam and loved the atmosphere it had. This is almost as good with a much better engine.

I do wish they brought back the staple song: Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit.

Xanedi: join an empty server on a map with plenty of choppers like isla. It's how I learned.

Aslo I feel bad for thr people who just got this game. The learning curve o's alot higher now. I knowim killing low level guys left and right lol. My buddy went 40-3 as my chopper gunner. Oh well makes me feel good lol

man just started using the m1911 a few days ago.. god i love that gun. been using it as my primary weapon with my m24 as my secondary :D. only problem is i run out of ammo really quit and a 7 round clip sucks when your going up against 3 or more people but i dont care its still fun as hell.

I've started playing again a few days ago after playing mw2 and black ops for a while and god damn you feel so sluggish compared to COD games, I also don't like the terrain because you can come across a small boulder and you have to walk around it instead of being able to step over the thing.

Try these http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/18831319-post18.html
Altho I think i get better results with renderahead set to 0 even with an ati card, feels smoother when I happen to get below ~50fps. Still looks choppier than 60fps+ but atleast the input lag remains somewhat low.

Your playerspeed would not be anywhere near COD games but atleast you won't feel that "sluggish", i had serious problems in the previous months, even crouching felt laggy :S

90 - 100 is plenty playable for any game. That's pretty much as good as anyone hopes for on a server that isn't in the same state.

Also, the frostbite engine generally has higher pings than other engines due destruction, and sound. DICE has been working to shrink the packet sizes though, and improve the performance. I think for BC2 they said they nearly halved the packet sizes from BC1 or something.

Today has been awful, all servers are rubber-banding like crazy. Quick in game poll showed I'm far from alone

These sales are a bit double-edged. It's great that new people are coming in and I don't begrudge people not knowing the game, but it's a royal pain in the shaft when your server has a bunch of new people who bought it because they realised what a mistake they made by buying MW2/BLOPS and want a new shooter, completely focused on their KDR and not making any effort to get involved in point capping or asset dropping.

that's my number one gripe about BF. There's gotta be a way to motivate players to go for captures and team play more than straight kills.

In turn, these new players were boosting my KDR with their ultra aggressive ultra ineffective play style :D

I don't mean to bring technical things in this thread..but the lag and hit detection is killing me. And my XFX 5770 can only average me 20-35 FPS in the game on medium settings, 1440x900. That seems a bit off, no?

Very CPU heavy game. If you're on a dual core... not much you can do.

Servers have been laggy all day today, usually they are very good though and hit detection is fairly good.

I'll consider..but I'm debating if I should move other to an entirely new platform like i5 or i7 or whatever that's out (I'm out of date with these things) or just spend the money for the quad core. But I just played a quick round of Rush awhile ago. Lag and hit detection was far less worse and the game felt much more playable.

I've just found they all camp. Before the game went on sale I was able to play attackers on Vantage Point and we would rub our penises all over the faces of the defenders. Since the sale every time I play it we get stuck in the spawn being bombarded with grenades for the entire round because everyone just sat there and watched a the sky.

You've got the new chips around the corner for similar same price/increased performance, might be wise to struggle on for a couple more weeks.

easy.. be an asshole like me and yell at them til they actually start doing something or they get pissed off and leave. usually works pretty well.

Driving the tank into B on Hill 173 is very fun if you have the flamethrower. Managed to cover B and kill 7 people before it blew up along with me.
