Bad Company 2 SLOW LOADS

Issue:
Same problems as everyone else, slow loads...25-40 seconds per map

System:
Phenom II 955 on a Foxconn A7DA-S 2.0 motherboard, stock speeds
OCZ DDR3 6GB
640 GB western digital 7200 rpm hard drive
XFX Radeon HD 5870 1 GB, stock speeds
Dual 22" Monitors@1680x1050

Game maxed EVERY possible on-screen setting in DX11 mode, FOV 65
Also getting crazy fast load times (~10 sec) when setting mode to DX9

Windows 7 x64
Catalyst 10.3a

Core i7 920 at 3.06
6 GB DDR3
Asus P6T Mobo
4870 with 10.2 drivers
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Raid 0 74 gb raptors for boot drive

i am usually one of the last ones in - i just thought i had bad ping times but come to find out it looks like im not alone.

To those of you forcing dx9 do you see the graphics change much? is it much worse?

BF BC2 loads really slowly, I'm also usually one of the last to get in.

System:
Win 7 x64 Ultimate
i7 920 @ 3.2ghz
Asus P6X58D Premium
12GB DDR3 @ 1600
5970 @ stock
WD VR 150GB for OS drive
3 x Vertex 30G in raid 0 for game install drive
XFI Prelude Sound card

Driver: I have tried with 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 preview, 10.3a preview
DX Mode: 11 I think, I have it set to max, and haven't messed with the configuration file.

With Catalyst 10.1 and ATI 4870 in DX9 mode, the stationary machine guns are unusable - the visor panel that should be transparent is not. Also there are lot of graphical glitches like blinking terrain textures shown when you die or or when the round ends.

I didn't read the entire thread so I might just be repeating what have been said already, but this is a known ATI issue and for a lot of people forcing Dx9 helps with loadtime speeds, as far as I have understood it has to do with shaders or something like that and it takes Much longer on ATI cards then Nvidia, I load in something like 10 - 15 seconds on my rig usually but this is with an nvidia card.

So basically only thing you can do now that Might help is setting the game to Dx9 mode and wait for ATI to update their drivers.

Slow for me as well.

Super slow for me :(

Windows 7 64 bit
i7 860 @ 4.5ghz

HD 5870 overclocked
MSI P55-GD80

*Update*

Installed 10.3 and load times are still crap on DX10+.

In addition, I had CCC up on 2nd monitor, and in OD menu under current clocks it said 400/1000 until right before it finished loading. It switched to stock 3D clocks right before fading to the map.

Is it just compiling the shaders slow because of Powerplay?

Still awesome once I'm in-game though. Weee!

My main rig (in sig) is far far far slower loading into the game than Duo (secondary rig in sig), despite its significantly superior hardware. Even runs from the SSD!

Dino:
Single monitor, 1920x1080
Max settings (4x MSAA, 16x Anisotropic, VSYNC On, HBAO Off
DX11
Catalyst 10.2

Duo:
Single monitor, 1280x1024
Mixed settings (Medium on all except Textures and LoD are on High, 2x MSAA, 8x Anisotropic)
DX10
196.21 WHQL'd

one of the battlefield engine developers actually commented on his twitter about this issue in beta.

apparently the ati shader compiler is slow for whatever reason when it comes to dx10 and onwards. using dx9 should avoid this problem.

the dx9 path has some weird rendering bugs in places (like the heavy mg glass eye shield not being transparent) but it looks almost exactly the same anyway.

I also have the issue, where the initial menu after a game loads, is running at about 1-2fps and takes forever to do anything for the first time

Same issue here. Other players are often capping the first flag in Conquest by the time I spawn. I haven't tried DX9 mode yet.

Specs are in my sig.

Rig specs in sig. I have bone-stock Diamond ATI HD4850 512MB. Not running overclocked. Its the orginal ATI OEM design, not a proprietary version. I do manually set the fan speed to 45% and it never comes close to 70c during load.

DX9 mode = Unusable no matter what settings used. Ground textures flash like a strobe light and sometimes just disappear altogether, stationary guns unusable.
DX10/Auto mode = Playable, looks beautiful at medium settings with 2xAA and 4xAF with approx 45 FPS average. Slow map loading times. Over 1 minute to load a multiplayer map. By the time I'm in game, half my team is to second flag in conquest mode.

Results are exactly the same in Catalyst 9.11, 9.12, 10.1, and 10.2.

The Bad Company 2 Beta also had slow loading times in DX10/Auto mode. However, there was one major difference. The Beta was playable in DX9 mode using Catalyst 9.11 and 10.2 (only ones I tested during that time period). I only experienced a few graphical anomalies under the Beta while running DX9 mode, but none were game breaking. One notable anomaly I experienced was all the snow would sometimes disappear when I entered a stationary gun and it re-appeared when I left the gun or died.

Long load times here. Sometimes when I join a server the background is gray but I can still see the squad/map/item controls. I'm using the 10.3 Preview drivers but it occurred with 10.2 as well. My specs are in my sig.

Takes about 40 seconds to load for me, with the game installed on 2 300GB drives in raid-0.

Getting about 30-45 seconds. Should be getting less than 15 seconds considering my SSD setup.

Hopefully we'll see a hotfix sometime soon.

man you guys would go nuts playing BFBC2 on the 360 if your going nuts about 30 second load times.. lol.. from game start just to the menu screen is 4 minutes.. from server join to map loaded is another 2-3 minutes..

my guess is the long load time is how the games loading all the data to the video memory and ATI's drivers may not be efficient enough at doing this.. hopefully its fixed soon though..

Slow loads/vehicles taken/blah, blah, blah

AMD PII 940 @ stock 3 Ghz
Gigabyte GA-MA970X-UD4P
4 GB OCZ Platinum
Sapphire 5850 Toxic Catalyst 10.2

It's been stated by Dice that the slow load times is due to the shader compiler. Since it's starting to get some press from bigger sites, I wouldn't be surprised to see a hot-fix released in the next few weeks.

Specs in sig.

I also experienced this problem. I went from SLI 8800GTS 512s to a 5870.

Before even with my meager(compared alot of people here anyway :p) specs and the SLI I would be among the first guys to hit the map.

With the 5870 I'm among mid-last to load in. I'm fine with that though considering I can throw stupid amounts of AA at most games now.

MSI Radeon 4890 OC

DX10 = Slow loading times, most players way into the map.

DX9 = Fast loading, one of the first into game.

Only tried 3 different Catalyst drivers, same issue with all. Versions 10.1 10.2 and 10.3a

Specs....

Windows 7 64bit
Gigabyte P35 DS3R
Intel E6750 @ 3.2ghz
4GB DDR2 Geil Black Dragon
MSI Radeon 4890 OC
150GB WD Raptor

update on my system. seems I am now loading insanely fast on my sig rig in DX9. like 1-3 sec now. its pretty awesome. I have the game on steam so im not sure if there was an update but it seems to have worked.

DX 11 = slow, DX10 = slow, DX9= not slow.

That's all they really need to know honestly.

Specs in sig, running 10.2

(I had a 5750 as a temp card while rmaing the 4890 for the 11)

Same issue as everyone here, specs in sig running on DX10 1920x1080 all high no aa/af 10.3a.

Luckily the game is pretty good with alt+tab so I just surf teh webz while waiting to load.

I get the same long load times as others are reporting here. I also have found that unless I'm by myself on a server I find that the menus operate painfully slow until the game starts. So configuring my classes, etc. during the initial "setup" of the round takes quite a bit of time before I actually start the match. Everything but the menus are also grey with no image during this time. Other than that I think my experience is identical to everyone else that is posting here in this thread.

I really need to try the Catalyst 10.3 Preview driver. I've got it downloaded but I haven't installed it yet. From what I've read though, it shouldn't change anything. I included the peripheral information though I doubt it is relevant.

30-40 seconds loading time. It doesn't bother me except that when I join the server as a defender the attacking team might have activated a MCOM already :)

The 10.3a drivers don' fix it.

Wow I just finished cleaning up after a Lanparty we had this weekend and I was wondering why all my buddies with dual cores and 8800GTS's were loading faster than me. With the rig in my sig.

It's an ATI problem. I have friends who have 8800's and they beat my 5850 cleanly when it comes to loading.

I see the same, has it on 10.2 and 10.3a, not tested others.

Empty server, Africa harbour

DX9: 20s (though, horrible flickering ground bug)
DX10: 45s

Specs as sig
Drives are 2x Samsung F3 in raid 0
W7 pro, all patches

Edit: I'm curious, has anyone with a DX11 system timed DX10 and DX11 separately?

Loading isn't exactly long but I'm getting in game a fair bit slower than most people, that doesn't seem right with the specs I have.
