Monoprice has two 5.1 speaker sets, one is around $100 and the other hovers around 200. The 200 has won several awards and the 100 isn't bad either. There are several sites that sell 5.1 receivers that are refurbished for less than 200 some close to 100.

You get a lot of bang for the buck. I would do some research on kits if that interests you. Of course you would need a receiver or amp to power these.

My home theater speakers were a kit using gr-research speakers. Awesome stuff.
