I'm building two machines based around Intel Core 2 Duo E6850s - I picked up an ABIT AW9D-MAX and some OCZ DDR2 (gold, forgot the number, they're at work) 2GB sticks (4GB total for each machine) and I can't for the life of me get the mobos getting past the fact I don't have floppies (based on the post LED data), if I do (by inserting a floppy cable, which oddly gets me past that issue), trying to post after leaving the bios setup leaves me at a blank screen.

Does anyone know of any issues with this combination? I can't seem to find anything out there on the MB (which I think is the cause of my grief).

Anyone suggest a better mobo than the abit one?

The above doesn't really make sense to me, can you reword it?

Anyway, for 1333fsb CPUs you need the latest BIOS.
Also check the Vdimm set by the mobo against that recommended by OCZ.

Tbh 975X isn't the best chipset for 1333fsb CPUs particularly if you wanted to overclock.
 
If you're looking for a new mobo, check out the P35 boards. The Abit IP35 Pro is one of the better ones and shouldn't be too much different in terms of bios, etc. from the AW9.
 
I have exactly same configuration (AW9D-MAX, OCZ gold 4GB 800 MHz CL5 DDR2 Kit (2x2GB)) and there seems to be some broblems with it. Most recent bios (1.5) enables 800Mhz for memory and machine doesnt boot with that. I need to set multipliers so the mem works at 680mhz. 800mhz doest work even if i set 2.4v for memory and up latency to 6-6-6-18. Bios 1.3 works on default settings because it doesnt enable ddr2 800

ABIT AW9D/MAX will run the the new 1333FSB C2Ds extremely well. The problem is that there is no utility software support, and there are no accurate memory reads with such in the 1333strap. Based on what I have seen over at ABIT, in threads by Chuck4456 - who by the way is running an E6750 3.4gigs on an AW9D - and others in the forum, it's a BIOS issue. No one knows just how quickly ABIT will address it, since it's (basically) not meant to be to begin with.
You would be better off with the ABIT IP35 PRO - unless you like sitting on the fence.
Keep in mind (also) that the X38s will be out very soon.
