Between the First Bezerker or this game I picked up this instead.

Update: I refunded already something about the terrain just feels off and not immersive.

"...the takeaway: This is the game I would recommend first to anyone if I bumped into you on the street at the moment. That would make it the runner for game of the year. Still early days but I'm just trying to give you perspective. This is the best game I've played this year so far, and we have played some absolute bangers..."

"It's also worth noting that a huge part of what makes this tick is layered narrative - really interesting intrigue storytelling. You know this sort of sci-fi...Look, I don't even want to say anything other than just broad sweeping thematic structure but know that to spoil this for yourself is to ruin and cheat yourself out of a great experience. This will be a game that will be remembered and heralded as games that I wish I could experience for the first time again, reminding me of stuff like The Outer Wilds...like, it's not the Outer Wilds; it's very different. But you hear people say that sort of thing and, you know, melancholically remember their first time. So maybe that's enough.

Sight unseen - stop the video. Buy this game, play it, go in blind. You will not regret it. You will have a blast. However for most of you that's not enough. You're going to keep watching. So, let's discuss..."

The praise be high for this game so far. I love that your choices actually matter and you can inadvertently end or alter entire quest lines via your actions (like Mass Effect?). I can see myself picking this one up - even better if the gunplay turns out to be decent...doesn't have to be perfect but need it to be somewhat satisfying, which it looks to be. So if that's the worst part, based on what I've seen so far you can probably count me in.

reviews are all over the place for this...60's, 70's, 80's etc...I knew this would be a divisive game based on the detective/exploration aspect where they don't hold your hand...there are no traditional quests- it's up to the player to investigate and pick up all the clues

Love that aspect at least in theory before experiencing it

Apparently no dodging or blocking in the melee combat, which suggests that melee fighting will be pretty tedious

15 hour campaign holy.....seems like the AI is unfair in the IGN review yeah a big Skip to think I had this preordered for a while my problem is just immersion.

I've had a lot of the wind sucked out of my sails for buying this game after reading/watching a bunch of reviews.
The game is just not what I thought it was so I will wait till it's in the $10 bracket before I give it a go.

Can you elaborate for the rest of us? I probably wouldn't grab it until it was in the $20-$30 range anyway, because it doesn't scream "must have on day one!" to me but that's entirely subjective. I just didn't get into the Fallout games like a lot of other people did (I'd love to try again with 3 and NV some day, because STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl took several tries before I got sucked in).

I really liked the fact that you can affect quest lines, and that the side missions actually seemed decent, and that there was a distinct lack of handholding. I realize the latter part might be off-putting to some folks, but it's much more immersive when there's not an arrow or map beacon indicating where to go and what to do like 90% of these types of games have. I liked that you're just left to kind of figure things out.

I've only watched a couple of reviews but they were both positive, so I'm curious what took the wind out of your sails. I'm very open to discussion to see if this is something I want to play or not.

See I am a Fallout freak (FO3-FO4) and I was just hoping for more of the same.
Being as I loved NV and The Outerworlds as well, I was just hoping for more of that from Obsidian, just in a new environment.

I don't have an issue with the "choose your own adventure" quest line, but I'm not really digging the "find out who dun it" part of the game, guess I'm lazy and like my hand held sometimes.
As for being immersive, I play games to get away from reality and larping isn't something I get into if that makes sense. I'm a loot whore and level grinding completionist.

I think what really turned me off was the lack of combat mechanics, the melee looks pretty stale as does the firearm content. Compound that with the weird barter system.

I'm not saying I think it sucks, I'm saying that I was ready to get this game day one, and now after seeing the hands on previews and finding out that the campaign is extremely short, it's been status changed to "wait for a steep discount".

Long story short, the game isn't what I thought it would be or wanted as I said before.

Appreciate it very much! :) I'll keep this on the periphery and see how it turns out. Wish there was a demo but we'll know more soon.

Obsidian is not the developer, it's Rebellion...unless I'm misunderstanding and you're saying you prefer Obsidian type of games
That and I had Avowed on my head for some reason, good looking out.

Live Today if you bought dlx edition from CD keys it's live on launch day not today so you get screwed.

we are not use at looking at non-temporal AA very much when we heavily criticize its downside its seem... some alternative are quite worst. Seem an FSR/DLSS update could do a lot of good here (for the non ps4-XboxOne version, it is a bit crazy that those 2 still get that type of release in 2025....).
