Ok enough of the X800XT vs 6800u polls. Lets see how everyone votes on the X800Pro vs 6800GT.

Here is a new review covering these two cards head to head for anyone that doesn't already know about their performance.

The 6800GT won in nearly all of the game benches and in some by a huge margin.

http://www.ixbt-labs.com/articles2/gffx/nv40-2.html#p1

I'm going for a Gigabyte, XFX, eVGA 6800GT myself, what about you???

The GT seems like a real winner.

I know I could seach, but does anyone know the fundamental differences between the GT and U aside from the pci slot and molex connectors?

i wanted a GT but the price and availability made me order an x800 pro.

I'd say GT is the better card in those tests

The 6800GT's will be out here in another week or two and they will be in the same price range as the X800Pro.

Other then availability why else would you pick the X800Pro? All the reviews i've seen clearly point to it being the faster card and it will OC to 6800 ultra speeds.

Other then default clock speeds and the fact the ultra has two DVI connectors there is no real difference other then the ones you mentioned.

The 6800GT is a single slot, single molex card with 16 pipelines and is clocked at 350/500. The 6800 ultra is clocked at 400/550.

I'm an Ati fan and all, but the Nvidia GT has the edge in the, uh, 'budget' expensive range. Plus, ATi cards are CRAP in linux; now that Nvidia has rebounded from the mostly lackluster FX5xxx series, I think the GT coupled with nVidia's much better drivers (especially in Linux!) gives them the edge.

I like both, no fanboy, but the new tech on the GT and BFG cards edge out ATi on this one.

GT of course.

X800 PRO --> 12 pipelines

6800 GT --> 16 pipelines

hmmm......ill take the 16 pipelines.

The 6800 NU/GT section at CompUSA is in disarray with a fair amount of empty space behind most of the boxes. Signs of high volume sales.

The x800 Pro is perfectly stocked to capacity and neatly arranged (untouched). Not to mention the stacks upon stack of X800Pro boxes stored 10 feet above the display shelves.
There was a lone cricket singing in this section.

X800pro VIVO.. 16 pipes out of the box, stock cooling did 510/550 100% stable, 531/598 atitool peak.

Are the 15 people who voted for the pro retarded?

I go with whichever side is fastest, I'm no huge fan of either, but like pinoy said, the GT has 16 pipes, the pro has 12. The choice is obvious.

Christ man, don't bash them...it's not like the Pro sucks...it's still a fast card...

This thread is pretty old so the majority of the X800Pro voters didn't get to see the official DOOM 3 benches :p.

Maybe you should make another one of these...for the post-doom3-benchmarks-numbers...

My vote goes to nvidia because it is the better card but personally, I wont be buying nvidia products. From their drivers, to their fx series, to that "exclusive content for nvidia cards" bs. I dont like them, at all.

but the 6800GT is the clear winner, im still rooting fot ati though :p

The numbers speak for themselves. Even without the D3 benches the 6800GT is pwning the X800Pro in votes.

IMO, the real comparison is between the 6800 GT and the X800XT.

It has taken a long while, but I finally decided to get the 6800GT. I've had a 7200 and 9700, and loved both of them. This time around, I thought the decision through like this:

1) The four cards I considered were the 6800 U & GT and the X800 XT & Pro.
2) The X800 Pro has the 4 pixel pipes disabled, which in the long run will shorten the card's lifecycle for me.
3) 6800GT can usually be OC'd to (practically the same as) 6800U speeds for less $.

So now we're down to two, the X800XT vs the 6800GT.
-a VERY general (e.g. not always true) performance statement is: 6800 better for OGL and X800 better for DX9. (I will play a lot of HL2[dx9], a lot of D3[OGL]. Vampires: BL[dx9] looks good, so does Q4[OGL] etc etc)
-the 6800GT is less $$$ than the X800XT
-the IQ is roughly comparable between the cards (this is very important to me)
-Brand loyalty is irrelevant to me when I'm spending my cash. (I see this in a positive way: If you want my money, make the superior product. This economic version of natural selection drives a competition that has CLEARLY benefited us over the past 4 years.)
-the 6800GT is available right now, the X800XT is hard to get. (Not so important, but playing D3 for the first month with a 9700 pro would be painful!
-both cards perform very, very, well with the games out now, and presumably with those coming out in the next 6 mos.
-I'm on a 2 yr replacement cycle (goes for the entire system, see sig.)

So the 6800 GT just edges out the X800XT. It's close, though. They're both good products, congrats to both companies. Of course, I wish that programmable GPUs would come out and end this two-year upgrade cycle. That's a whole 'nother discussion onto itself.

I based my vote on performance/price/availability not from the benches of one game.
BTW i voted for the 6800GT

I would go with the 6800GT because...

1. It usually tends to be a tad cheaper than the X800 Pro. All depends on where you look, but in my experiance its cheaper.

2. Shader Model 3.0 / Direct X 9.0c support

3. eVGA card has fry cry in it

4. Better stock cooler

5. It beats the X800Pro, and in some games, the X800XT PE

6. Red doesnt match my blue motherboard :p

Thats the first reason that ruled out the X800 for me lol.

I have a blue Gigabyte mobo and 5 Cooler Master Blue Neon LED fans.

lol....color is the LAST reason you should buy something....but i agree it would look really ugly...

And green doesn't go with my orange. :p Didn't stop me from voting GT.

So just because his opinion is different than yours hes retarded?

I have a pro but I voted for the GT. The pro was damn fast when it first came out, but the GT beats it with the new drivers. Doesn't make the pro a slow card though, just the GT a better deal. GT all the way ;)

Voting for the X800 Pro is like giving a 10 to that 400lb beast on HotorNot.com. Some people just want to be nice.

rofl

seriously...the Pro is a good card...I don't get why people think it's complete garbage all the sudden...it just happens to be slower than its competition...but not by much...it's not a good buy compared to the GT, but it's still a very good card...

I understand what you are saying. The Pro is nothing to sneeze at. But when it comes down to putting 400 (maybe more if u are impatient/stupid/time limited) $ on the counter, the GT appears o be the better value for the $. The GT also appears to overclock better than the Pro and yields an additional performance.

The GT's in my area are sold out. There are hundreds of Pros locally available. If I bought a Pro, I'd feel like I was settling for a lesser product.

Either card would be an improvement over my current TI 4600 but the 6800 GT has more to offer than the x800 Pro. So if I have a choice, which I do, I'd go with the GT.

 No, it's because the GT is an obviously superior card.

You don't have a "special" family member do you? Did I offend you? ;)

Im with him lol :p But then i always like going for the underdog?I also hate Nvidia products there C*R*A*P:p But thats just me YOUR results may Vary BAAABAAA :D

The X800 Pro is definitely not garbage. However, the problem is when people spend $400 on a video card they want to make damn sure its the fastest they can get for that much.
