ATI Silencer and/or Ramsinks?

For my aiw x800xt. Seems the only viable aftermarket coolers are the vf700 and the ATI Silencer 1.2.
I love the idea of pushing the vpu's hot air out the back of the case. My lanboy case has piss poor airflow, and I actually hear my stock intel cooler ramp up a lot more when my video card is overclocked. Point is, my x800 is making my case hot. Does anybody else have ramsinks under this cooler? I'm not sure they would fit.
However, I know the vf700 does a fine job, and I know I could fit some ramsinks underneath the fan to keep those chips cool. Only downside is that the hot air stays in the case more or less.
Thoughts.
 
When I upgrade to the R520 I'm planning on getting a new cooler (such as the Silencer) - imho, any aftermarket cooler is better than the stock cooler - but then again I may be wrong. Wait and see, eh.
 
You can always tweak an ATI Silencer 4 to fit. I did and it works quite well..... :cool:

I saw your post about that in another thread, but I'm not much of a "tweaker," and I don't own a dremel (or any of the right tools, I think).
It might be worth it though, does the v.4 cool the RAM or not?

The ATI 4 cools the RAM on the VPU side, but for the backside, some good RAMsinks are a better bet as the provided backplate won't mount up properly with the two posts cut off.

I believe you can just use the ATI 1 with some extra RAM sinks instead, that is, If you are not much of a "tweaker"..... ;) C'mon, what is computing without "tweaking"?
 
I had a bad experience w/ the ATI silencer. After about 4 month of it on my computer, the fan started making horridly loud noises, probably a bearing. Tried to get in touch w/ the mfg by email/fax/phone but never got a respose. so it was back to stock for me.
