is mad old. When are we getting something better? Wasn't XGI developing something?
This is unsettling.

1. The 9800 Pro is more than suitable for todays games, and tomorrows.
2. There is something "better". The 9800XT.
3. Yes they are.

>The 9800 Pro is more than suitable for todays games, and tomorrows.

No and no.

>There is something "better". The 9800XT.

It's the same damn thing. And the same as the 9700 before that.

>Yes they are.

Well, tell the bastards to hurry up, my coffee is getting cold.

Is there a release date or window? Is NV staying competitive?
I'm on a 9600 Pro which does not quite suffice. I'd not like to purchase a 9800 Pro for $x00 and get screwed in the next few months.

These XTs seem to me to be a big waste of money. frankly, buy a pro and overclock the damned thing, because you know the XT isn't going much higher in clock speed than what it is at, no matter what the guys at [H] said in their review of the 9800 XT, those speeds with that GPU and the memory just isn't "tailor made" for overclocking, and frankly I question their expertise after reading that non-sense.

If you dont think the 9800 Pro is good enough for todays games, you are ignorant.

Its not the same thing, its close. More memory and a higher clock.

Try researching things yourself???

Yes, my knowledge of frame rates is insufficient.

>Try researching things yourself??

What do you think I'm doing right now, professor?
Why don't you do the same and see how hard the 9800 can choke on a modern engine.

>Its not the same thing, its close. More memory and a higher clock.

Close enough. I could staple wings on my Pinto and call it an F-16

Um, Ive had a 9800 Pro. It ran every game I threw at it. If paired with a good CPU, you can get very playable framerates in every game out there.

Prove me wrong on that.

How about using a search engine for the XGI info?

Playable, eh?
Yes, my CPU is really choking on that FSAA at 1600x1200.

The 9800 Pro is good, yes, but not perfect. Consistent stuttering is unacceptable.

>How about using a search engine for the XGI info?

I could, but a message board discussion is just as valid "research" as fumbling with Google.

And this thread was regarding any new chipsets. Very open.

the 9800 pro is their final card. this generation was the last one ever. neither ati nor nvidia are making video cards anymore, and instead are diversifying their operations into ceramic lawn ornaments and costume jewelry. be on the lookout for the flamingoXT in march from ati, and the rhinestoneFX in october from nvidia

this really seems more like a "bitch and moan" thread than anything useful...
