Wow.

Part of that may be due to the 512MB of video memory and the big ass textures.
You're right but the patch does make a big difference (for the X1800 cards).......

now let's see some benches with the nvidia cards running 81.85 drivers
Check the pic at the top of this thread, FS used the 81.85 drivers.

heh what about other OGL games i smell quak4 here
Doom3 and Riddick also see benefit from the new OpenGL fix so it doesn't appear to be app-specific.

AFTER patch? OH, YEAH!
Yeah, kudos to Terry Makedon and the Catalyst driver guys - they've *finally* delivered top-notch OpenGL performance. What took them so bloody long? :p

you're in here why again? to troll?

what some one said it worked in other stuff too so i shut up :p happy

i do have another question does it work with the other ATi cards ?

Now they've got this all they need to do is actually make better OGL drivers and then everyone benefits (ati card owner wise). How long have they promised it? 2 years?

at least

how long has the 9700Pro core been out?

Thats one large freaking resolution with antialiasing, with quake4 at ultra mode. Im betting this score is inflated by the 512mb. But I dont doubt ati winning the opengl game with its recently corrected AA inefficiency.

An unreleased tool on an unreleased card. Hopefully this will carry into production cards and drivers and work above 4xAA.

The driver hotfix is available for download now, and considering it's being incorporated into the 5.11s it's hardly a separate "tool."

Well I will just install the 5.11's on my XT

My point is that it's not in the drivers yet and the XT is not out yet. I guess if you already have a XT and are using the 5.11's you can clue us in as to how well it works.

God knows no one on these boards ever talks about unrealesed software or hardware!
People talk about fufure nvidia Drivers and Cards and Ati Drivers and Cards all the time. We know these will come out and they have proven massive gains.
Not to hard to accept really.

The rolls eyes emoticon is hardly the standard in respectful discourse.

The hotfix isn't some leaked package, it's available from ATI's site. It's not WHQLed yet, but so aren't a lot of driver 'beta' leaks that people like to play with.

My point is that it's not in the drivers yet and the XT is not out yet. I guess if you already have a XT and are using the 5.11's you can clue us in as to how well it works.

Dude, you're so busy jerking your knee in denial of these scores that you're ignoring--either willfully or out of unmitigated ignorance--that the hotfix driver build is available right now to the entire world, directly from ATI's website.

And Firingsquad also tested the XLs, which are available for purchase now. I know you ignored those and keyed in on the XT since that's obviously what you feel threatened by, but regardless of whatever's driving your need to write such absolute waste of bandwidth posts it's jaw-dropping to see ATI actually winning in Doom 3 engine-based benchmarking. Who the hell would've thought to ever see this? We should be discussing the hardware elements of the new memory controller and memory mapping tweaks, how it might benefit other games and how well ATI may or may not be able to continue to optimize for it in the future instead of this petty, !!!!!! crap you seem mired in.

Does this forum software have ignore lists? Please tell me yes. I'm done wasting my time with such blatant trollery.

Its in the 5.10a driver release and it works with my x1800xl, and it works great. I installed it before I bought quake 4, so I cant say exactly how much better.

edit: john beat me to the punch.

And that's just fine. I was only saying I look forward to seeing this benchmarked on a retail XT using released drivers. And I was wondering if this is going to work above 4XAA. I was not trying to be negative, but a lot of people get defensive. I hope this works out.

One click and Prime will be gone forever.

One thing that really stands out, though, is that even with the hotfix installed those XLs still lag behind the GTs the bulk of the time. Yeah, they'll fare better in D3D games but still. . . .

Please put me on your ignore list so that these tantrum like replies will end. I did see the XL benchmarks and they were behind that of the GT a card that sells for about $100 less. It was not my intention to start a flame war, yet you had to light the match.

Again I hope this works for ATI, I look forward to seeing it on the XT when it comes out. For those who have tried this on the XL does it work above 4XAA?

Wow...your posts are pretty sad and pathetic of late trying to dog out the ATI. Why?

November 5 has been the announcement for the XT. Truth hurts...let it go.

you should be locked out of the ATI Forums until you can prove that you can post something that isnt part of your anti-ati jihad

I rather you not. I rather enjoy watching you handing him his ass all the time with him and weak arguments. Much like a parent would.
It's fun.

Although I edited out the rest of your post, you are right in how this thread should have been more on how great ATI has been of late with real commitment for fixing their drivers. ATI is really showing how they are here to stay and no longer the "little company" nipping at a giant's heals (AMD vs Intel)

I see though that you failed to point out that the XL is 256 memory and the XT is 512. convient. Or how the XT is november 5th released. convient. Yes you start flame wars and don't try to act innocent. You posts are backhanded.

and even if was app specific that is OK

did anyone not read our editorial on the front page?

this performance improvement is achieved through better hardware efficiency with the new X1000 series memory controller

Give it time. These cards only hit the market less than two weeks ago. The GT has been on the market since the first day of quakecon (August 11th). Price decay will happen, just wait until after thanksgiving...

the Catalyst 5.10a hotfix drivers on ATI's website contain the OpenGL memory controller performance effeciency improvement on X1000 series cards

and a quick look on newegg a 7800 gt is 350 while a XL is 389. It's not that big of a diference.

The GT is also 256MB, what does that have to do with anything? XT may be "released" on the 5th but that does not mean it will be available for sale.

I could also mention that NVIDIA has a 512MB part and possibly an Ultra on the way, but that is not relevant to the conversation.
