ATI Drivers really that bad?

Yeah I know some people say it's not an issue anymore with newer drivers and hardware, or that they don't notice it, but all else equal, even if there were no microstutter, I'd rather take the single GPU for power, noise, and heat reasons.

Yeah, I noticed stuttering in COD:WaW on my ol' 9800GX2, once I maxxed the settings. But once I switched over to a HD5770 xfire setup, CoD:WaW refused to stutter (likely due to the fact that two HD5770 don't flinch when CoD WaW is running, while a 9800GX2 is running balls-to-the-walls to get it playing).

Either way, xfire issues with SC2 beta drove me to a single HD5870. Ignorantly, I thought xfire issues were solved last week, and I bought another HD5870... right before reading [H]'s HD5870 crossfire vs GTX460 SLI review.

I'll still call it sexfire, because that's what I remembered of my HD5770s, except for SC2. Too bad I am mATX, otherwise, I'd get more cards (HD5870 or HD5770 - or GTX460).

If it's any consolation, AMD got xfire 5770 working VERY well, and if they manage to get the same out of 58xx series cards (I am assuming it's a software and not a hardware issue), SLI 460 scaling would suddenly look mediocre.

Me too. Anyone follow twitter or the like of the ati dev team know if that is a focus for the following release?
 
Thought I would have a bunch of problems with ATI and their drivers when I purchased a 5870. Happy to report no issues whatsoever, and still loving the card 6 months later.
