ATI was so proud that they were supposedly the first to start bulk shipping of PCIE units (they even made a press release when they hit 1 million) but now that some people are complaining about nVidia's decision, they've decided they loves the AGP. Huh.

um I bought another system ...had that one for a while then sold it for another one with the x850.....and it was the x800xt to x850 xt pe... no pro ...read it next time...

There's a difference between "replace" and i bought a whole new system. No where in any of your posts did you talk about buying a new computer. :p
EDIT: Have you ever built your own computer or do you just buy assembled?
 
I also feel the same as tranCendenZ, if you are about to spend $500+ on a videocard, you might as well be on the bleeding edge and have PCI-Express. I mean to take full advantage of these cards anyway you have to have a pretty high end CPU(FX, EE, or something pretty close), so you probably ought to be on PCI-Express board anyway. So I don't see the big deal in not having an AGP based card.

I built my own a couple of years ago with a 64mb nvidia card. I have bought the x800xt system from dell..then the second one from alienware with the x850 xt pe... in the first one the x800 xt had to be replaced 2 times....

Sounds like you've got some serious system issues - Possible hardware incompatibility, etc. - 3 bad ATI cards seems a bit excessive. I mean, if they were s3 cards, I could believe that.

I've always had great luck with both brands. I always wondered why people bashed ATI for bad drivers and all that, because i've never had any issues running games on either brand of cards.

I just buy the fastest card for the money when i uprade, regardless of brand.

Amazing. I've got 5 ati cards here (and an intel onboard video, and 2 nvidia cards) and none of them freeze up on me. This of course, is not all in the same system.

One of My nvidia cards has been replaced.

One of my ati cards has been replaced (every so often, on bootup, the card would give me the message that the extra power plug wasn't connected, when, in fact, it was. Add to that that the system has a very high quality PSU, and there was evidence that it had developed some sort of problem. However, none of them froze up, gave graphical glitches, or actually failed any sort of diagnostic. I just didn't like the random fact that my video card would "once in a blue moon" fail to "boot up"
 
Im not talking about the old ati when they still were good....

IM telling you these NEW Ati cards are bad voodoo
 
hehe in my system I got nothing but infinite loop error crashes with nvidia... tried different motherboards too!

I switched to ATI to get away from that... for me, ATI has been stable... it has been nvidia that crashes insessantly... oh... got away from the famed nvidia 6800 stutter too!

don't get me wrong... nvidia is not bad... and neither is ATI... but they are different approaches. Sometimes when you can't get what you want from one angle you try another... no big deal

btw...this is the ati forum, if you want to praise nvidia you're in the wrong place. You're not going to convince anyone (especially in the ati forum) that the x800 series is bad/sucks/=crash/freeze. If anything you're convincing people to stay away from pre-built systems since that's where your problem originated. You do realize that you're in the huge minority of people that have had problems with the x800 series, yet you're acting like the company is going bankrupt because you had problems with a couple of cards.

I praise both ati wth hate and nvidia with joy..so there....Im warning people about these Voodoo rific cards So they don't end up spending a fortune....and the card gets flushed down the drain....I am like a spokesmen of truth!!!
 
its funny because i never heard a Official annoucement from NVIDIA themselves. You really think NV will let go of AGP market that fast.

looks like someone needs to do some reaserach on marketing.

Un4given is right. All ATI cards must have Fastwrites OFF and you probably had a crappy PSU. It is not ATi's fault you have a retarded system.

Not really, people were obviously thinking that agp would stay around for a while longer. PCi-e at the minute has one benefit, to be used in an sli\crossfire configuration. Besides that agp is still more than up to the task of accepting r-520\7800 boards.

My system at the minute is socket 478, i will want to upgrade my graphics hopefully when the r520 is available, i don't wanna buy a new motherboard\cpu just for the fact that a company can't be arsed to make use of the bridge chip they were cheering about a few months back.

Id prefer a £400 or so upgrade without having to tack anouther £400 or so onto that just for a different graphics card slot.

back on topic... Thank god for ATI releasing their next gen product on AGP because i dont think ill have the money to buy a crossfire / pcie mobo and a new power supply along with this card because it will probably be ~600 bucks or so unless nV lowers their prices when the R520 comes out.
 
um no...but im dropping the whole Ati thing and giving up... Im just not gone buy from them anymore and that's it....it's done over...

But seriously, if you bought an ATI card and didn't configure the IRQ's correctly, that's your problem, the 9800se in my sig (edit.. took it out of my sig, it's a 9800se type 2 softmodded to 9800pro speeds, 9700 pcb :( ) was very grumpy and crashed/freezed all the time until I realized I forgot to set the IRQ correctly... No wonder you are so confused and think it's the card.

I suggest you learn alot more before you start blaming mfg's.
