Athlon XP power consumption?

Depends on the board... boards like the Asus A7N8X or Aopen AK79G-Max run the CPU from 5v. Most newer ones pull from 12v though. If the board has a 12v connector, it'll be a 12v oriented setup.

Its just the POS Via motherboard, the one that came stock with my Compaq. So if the 4-pin 12V connector is not needed, then the CPU runs off of 5V? That would make sense.

The reason I'm asking is I have a bigger wattage PSU , but has 1 less Amp on the 12V rail(only 13). Should I just stick with the one with more 12V Amps?

I ordered a new PSU, but in the meantime should I remove my new X800? As I fear that my current PSU is not supplying enough power as I feel the PC seams sluggish now.

Thanks for the reply, I looked everywhere and couldn't find an answer.

If the board doesn't have a 12v connector, use a good quality PSU with a combined 3.3v/5v rating of 200W or better. If it does have a 12v connector, a good quality PSU with an 18A 12v rail should be more than enough.
