Are there any owners of this very nice Asus laptop on the forum?
what can you say about it reliability and build quality?
Do you think it will survive 4-5 years usage as a student laptop?

I ask this because laptop is very tempting but there are many field reports about bad build quality and failing parts.

Got it a month ago before school started- and been using it daily since.

Reliability and build quality seem fine. I've had it "bug" on me just once- it just suddenly shut down, no blue screen, nothing, just power cut off. Probably because I had it on sleep for about a week.

When you're typing, your palm sometimes "brushes" the touchpad and the mouse jerks- sometimes highlighting whatever text you've just written for the past hour and replacing it. When writing a 3 page essay it happened about 3-4 times... but I've gotten used to it and it happens less often now.

I'm not sure about using it for 4-5 years, but I'm expecting mine to last at least 3.

Another thing to note, you definitely want a sleeve protector. This thing is a scratch magnet, and it will get scratches regardless of how carefully you treat it.

Just saw the UX32VD laptop in the shop. It looks extremely nice. Build quality looks fine. But I would not try to lift the laptop by display. It feels it will not survive long then :)

I use Lenovo t420 now and it is absolutely ok to lift it grabbing by display, it build like a tank.

PS: Just bought Lenovo T430s / RAM 4GB / SSD 128 GB / 3 years onsite warranty / 999 Euro. Hopefully it will last 5 years.

Build quality is sub par to me.

I just returned a ux31a to best buy and got the ux32vd from amazon and the bottom plate flexes in and scratches against the side by the usb ports making a creaking scratching sound. There were a few other reviews on amazon saying the same thing.

Now I have to figure out if I want to get it exchanged and hope I don't get the same thing or just return it along with the 256gb ssd and 8gb stick of memory that I bought. (from 2 other websites)

Anyone know how common the creaking/flexing issue is?

The ux31a had a much more sturdy feel to it.

can't say about the UX32VD, but the UX31A is more solid. But the UX31A is unibody while the 32VD is not.

Own a UX32VD - swapped out the mechanical drive for a 240Gb SSD (Sandisk Extreme) as well as added 8 GBs of RAM to it for a total of 10GB. Really happy with it so far - sucker really flies for an ultrabook.

No issues with build quality - yes the bottom panel will flex a bit if you man handle/put undue pressure on it like picking it up one handed by just a corner. A uni-body design/build might be more rugged, but I like being able to get at the internals - will make cleaning it or replacing fans in a few years a lot easier. I'd say you need to treat it with a bit of care - it's not a tough-book and it sure weighs a heck of a lot less than one!

Is it monster tough? Hell no, but its solidly built for what it is and as long as you aren't too abusive it should last. Bottom line, its uber light/fast and looks sexy as hell. If you want something really rugged, I'd say move along, these aren't the computing devices you are looking for...

it should be if you treat it well. The chassis is aluminum which is more durable than the plastic chassis that I have used before, IMO. only time will tell. Even though it is not a unibody like the ux31A it is still very solid
