Asus p8p67 pro, CPU temp reading max.

I just fired up my Sandy build for the first time and immediately entered into the bios to look around and make sure everything looked good.

The CPU temp is reading at max temp and is in red. This struck me as odd because I just plugged it in a mere 3-5seconds before entering bios. How could is be at near 200F when its never been on?

So I installed windows and started updating all my drivers. During one of the reboots I decided to go back into bios and see what it was at, When I first entered it was around 150F then steadily climbed back to the max 200F within about 10 seconds. My guess is there is a faulty censor, And the temp is fine.

Has anyone read any other similar problems with these new boards?

It seems to be running perfectly fine otherwise.

you pry did this correctly! but make sure you put thermal grease on the cpu.

Just to be sure I just redid it, the Temp is lower now, but still not somewhere I would want it to be.

When I had it off, I felt it and it was cool to the touch. Im almost positive the censor is malfunctioning.

I'm more accustomed to seeing people report temps in celsius. 200F is 93C, 150F is 65C.

What thermal paste did you use between the CPU and the cooler, and how much did you use? What cooler are you using?

I am seeing about 30°C sitting idle with my 2600K at stock speeds with the retail cooler. Used AC5 instead of the stuff that came with it. Under Prime95 testing it hits 60°C which is where I get alerts from the Asus monitoring software. I am thinking a new cooler is in order for me.

I used the stock paste and cooler, I have not OC'ed it yet.

I'm sure it was a bug, I have updated the bios and now its hovering around 40C

... Asus monitoring software. I am thinking a new cooler is in order for me.

I had the exact same thing happen. Brand new build, plug it in, and immediately shoots up to 65c. Then, after the 1003 bios update, it starts up a 85C, then climbs right up to thermal shutdown.

I looked at the board again, and the heat sink had come loose on two points. Not sure how, but I snapped them back down again. Reboot - and it stays steady at 50-51C. So definitely check your heatsink mounts. I might take it off later and put Arctic Silver 5 paste instead of the stock Intel paste. (anyone try that yet?)

BUT....

So bios is happily reporting steady 50-51C. I boot to windows, and Asus AI suite II temp apps all report the CPU is at 31-32C. I reboot and bios still says 50C. So what app are you guys using to measure temp - and is it right???

@mattf - I'm using CPUID HW monitor and Real Temp 3.65 to monitor my temps.
