I just installed my new P6X58D-E today.

The PCI-E spacing leaves something to be disired compared to boards with double spacing, but it technically has enough space in between the slots for two double slot cards.

I also found a newer BIOS for it on the ASUS ftp site. It isn't listed on their web site for some reason.

The initial release is 0108. The new BIOS is 0204.

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1366/P6X58D-E/P6X58D-E-ASUS-0204.zip

Anybody running the new BIOS yet? Any idea on what the changes are?

I have finally gotten this board to run my RAM at its rated speed of 2000.

It is NOT on the supported list.

The BIOS was setting the Back to Back Cas at 0 when the lowest manual setting is 4 which was limiting me to around 1600.

I am still working on finding the max on my CPU as well as the RAM.

This board has so many more settings then my ASROCK board does. I will say one thing for the ASROCK board though... even though it maxed out at 190bclk, it overclocked to 190bclk extremely easily.

I am loving this board. It is now at 4Ghz (200x20) with the RAM at 2005 with tight timings.

Sandra is reporting a little over 35.2GB/s memory throughput after tweaking all the memory timings.

Anybody else here have this board?

i was thinking about getting this one... or the premium. was it hard to get to 4 ghz? i'm hoping to get a new i7 930 + this

the p6x58d-e seems to be the better deal unless you really need the extra features on the premium.

Easy to get the processor to 4Ghz.... a bit hard to get to 4Ghz while running
non-supported RAM at 2005Mhz. The BIOS was not setting the Back to Back Cas delay properly. After I got the RAM timings figured out, it was pretty easy.

My processor is a bit of a power hog compared to a lot I have seen so 4Ghz is about my limit for now. 1.325v for 4Ghz is a bit much compared to a lot of I7-920 D0 processors from what I have seen on various forums and overclocking guides.

There are so many more options on this board compared to my ASROCK board that it has taken a few days for me to get a feel for how the different settings affect it.

They just posted a new BIOS to the ftp site yesterday. Up to version 0303 now.

And of course it is not posted for download on their site yet.

Time to write down my current settings and flash/clear my BIOS. I don't trust restoring a saved profile after upgrading to a new BIOS version because it may set some setting that was changed in the new BIOS version.

Looks like thay at least took care of some RAM compatibility issues as my system booted up properly before/after clearing the BIOS. With the 0204 BIOS, I had to use the MemOK button to get it to boot the first time.

Memory throughput is slightly down with the same exact settings when compared to
0204. Time for me to do some more tweaking since they definitely changed something.

Not sure what else they did. Hope they actually post this one for download on the website along with a change log.

I was also looking at this board but went for the Rampage III Extreme. Either way Asus boards have always been good to me over the years. The Rampage III Extreme is by far the best board I have owned to date. Its an overclockers dream and looks awesome in my case.

I decided to re-do the TIM on the IOH. I took it off to find that they for some reason are still using the pink bubble gum like crap as TIM.

I also found that 6 of the 8 main voltage regs were not getting full contact with the thermal pad. a few were only making about 1/2 contact with the pad.

I cleaned off the pink crap and applied some AS5. I also put a dot of AS5 on each place where a chip contacted the thermal pad. On top of that, I added two motherboard screw washers to each screw of the voltage reg heatsink as well as an extra motherboard washer on each screw of the IOH heatsink.

The heatpipe assembly is now quite a bit tighter and the thermal pad is squished a lot more than it was before.

I was able to lower my IOH voltage from 1.38 to 1.32 from doing this. I have not tried lowering any other voltages or adjusting anything else yet.

I just purchased this board for my new build, will be coupling it with an i7-930. What BIOS version are these shipping with?

Mine came with 0108

And you can have 3 double slot cards. (mine is 470+470+260). You just need to have an 8 slot case or mod the one you already have (if theres room) or just water cool.

What features is this board lacking compared to the premium version?

This board has one less network port, but it has a better SATA 6.0Gb/s controller (supports RAID).

The VRM cooling is a little different as well.

It looks like a solid board but thats coming from an Asus fan. I will most likely grab this board for my next build which will be around september. I hope the prices will go down by then.

Any horror stories on this board yet? I should have mine arriving in the next week or two. Is it necessary to update the BIOS right away, or can this be done after Windows is installed? I don't have access to the internet at home, and can't download files onto my computers at work.

Thanks.

I'm just wondering, What would be the maximum price that you guys would pay for this mobo (USED)? I'm asking this because I know someone selling this mobo with all original accessories except the box for $180. (he says its less than a month old). Comments?
