Ok here are my specs...
Asus P4P800-VM
P4 2.8C
6600GT
512 Ram
80GB HDD ATA
Win XP sp2
bios ver. 1012 (very old + i have no floppy drive)

Im a noob so plz help me out ye...on with the problems then...

for sum reason my USB keyboard wont come on during bootup this started happning a while back but i didnt bother as the KB worked after windows loaded ...so now i cant enter the BIOS and since ive purchased a new 500GB HDD and 512x2 DDR400 ballistix ram
2-2-2-6 @ 2.8V (both of which will arrive soon) i may need to enter the BIOS !?
Is there a way to enter the BIOS without pressing the DEL key during bootup??
ive formated my hdd, tried othr usb ports and my frnds usb KB.....my ps/2 port is not working maybe i forced a mouse socket in there :D anyways

nxt question...i hav already PURCHASED the ram which runs at 2.8V and i dont know whether my mobo supports that voltage(it may)...how do i find out?? theres no mention in the manual the crucial site says its compatible but...i wanna make sure. and also if it is supported...since i cant enter the BIOS will the memory automaticaly run on Dual Channel mode ?

thnx to whoever can help this noob :).. im from INDIA and the mobo's not under warranty so no RMA.....and i dont think ill be able to find a new decent socket 478 mobo here(i dont think they make that **** no more) .....pls dont tell me im screwed :O

well there's no way you can get into bios with no keyboard.

maybe you can fix the problem with a bios update. you can do this from windows with the asus updater thingy software. i can't remember what it's called because i would never risk such a thing in windows.

dual channel. don't think you can get it go dual channel if you've already got 1x512 and you're putting in another 2x512. dual channel has to at least work in pairs of memory modules for each channel. the manual will show you.

Bios updates in Windows are simple. I wouldn't hesitate doing it that way (as long as you know your Windows is stable).

I had a similar problem, and I ended up trashing the board. The PS2 ports died and I couldn't get into the bios.

dual channel not using the 512 stick i already have...will it work then ?
and also cld u pls temme if that 2.8 Voltage thing is compatible?

and about updating my bios what do u mean my windows shld be stable :S??....as far as i know it is....

ok i got the asus live update thing and im going ahead with the flash if im not back in 10 mins to report on how it went i prolly screwd up my mobo :) ive never done this b4 so hope it wkrs

on 2nd thought ill wait till some one replies and helps me out with flashing my BIOS using live update since ive never done it n all
i dloaded the latest bios ver and all i hav to do is click on flash....
there is an option to clear CMOS checksum shld i tick that ?

I'm not sure if the version of Live Update is the same as the one I have. But here's what I do.

1). Make sure Windows is stable (reasonably sure it's not going to crash on you in the middle of the process).
2). Download the bios file to your HDD (don't update right from the internet).
3). Select the file.
4). Click the clear CMOS checksum setting.
5). Press Flash
6). Reboot.

Has always worked for me :). I literally just did it right now and updated my 1707 bios to 2004 on my P5W DH. I'm going to reboot and restore the settings I just used and post back ;).

And here I am with bios 2004 with pretty much the same bios settings as I can remember what i had earlier ;). Maybe some different RAM timings or something like that, but it still worked.

2.8v on memory seems very high... or at least would be for DDR2. I can't remember what was normal for DDR.

2.8V is in the normal range for high end DDR1 memory. Most of the TCCD stuff ran right at 2.8V or so. The VX and BH5 ran really high voltages (3.2V+). The board he's using is DDR1 based...normal DDR2 voltage is around 1.8V with 2.0-2.2V needed for high end memory.

i FLASHED IT and it works like a charm
everything is normal and i can FINALY ENTER the BIOS and the keyboard workkksss!!!!

thnx alot kirbyrj

Hmm...maybe I should try flashing the bios on my broken MSI 865 board ;). Glad it works for you.
